Netflix’s German thriller series, Woman of the Dead, returns with a second season, and this time, once again, we witness Brunhilde Blum go to extreme lengths to protect her family. Trouble ensues when, after two years, the skeletons in the mortician’s closet are about to come tumbling out. Some unexpected legal trouble resulted in the exhumation of a body, and dismembered body parts of another corpse were discovered in the coffin. Since Blum’s connection with Edwin Schonborn was previously established (in season 1) as a result of some polaroids coming to light, the police suspected her involvement in the multiple murders that unfolded a couple of years ago. Even though Blum tried her best to move on and spend quality time with her family, her past continued to haunt her.

The Austrian-German crime thriller Woman of the Dead (Totenfrau ) premiered in 2022 on the Austrian Orf channel, after which it made its way to Netflix, where it also became a solid hit. Fans had been waiting for a new season of the acclaimed show and the wait is finally over.

The second season of the acclaimed series, also consisting of six episodes, premiered earlier this year on Orf and on March 19, 2025, it is going to appear – finally – on Netflix as well.

Another fan-favorite Netflix series is on its way back. And today, we have the honor of giving audiences the first look. Ahead of the second season’s premiere, fans are invited to feast their eyes on the exclusive debut of the trailer for Woman of the Dead. That’s right — after three long years away, the German-language series returns with more secrets to expose and mysteries to uncover. If you thought there was no way that the first season could be topped, it looks like the follow-up set of episodes will give the original a run for its money. Returning for more thrilling action, series star Anna Maria Mühe (Big Girls Don’t Cry) reprises her role as Brünhilde Blum — the undertaker at the center of the story.

Woman of the Dead (Totenfrau) is a series created by Benito Mueller, Wolfgang Mueller and Barbara Stepansky. It stars Anna Maria Mühe. It is based on a novel by Bernhard Aichner and It is directed by Nicolai Rohde.

Another noir series offered to us by the streaming platform for this weekend. This Austrian drama, thriller series is a story of revenge set in the Alps. An earthy production, and with good performances this will be to the liking of noir thriller fans.

About the Series

In six episodes we follow Brünhilde, a Leichendiener (a morgue employee). As her beloved husband dies in a strangely off accident, she starts to suspect this was after all no accident. An so, starts her quest.

It is an unassuming series that is quite classic in narrative style, slow paced and no grand effects, we are given a realistic setting, but not much profundity in character study.

World War II refugee drama “The Path” (Der Pfad) has debuted its international trailer (above) ahead of its market premiere at the European Film Market in Berlin. Warner will release the film theatrically in Germany, while Global Screen is handling international rights.

“The Path,” directed by Tobias Wiemann, is based on Rüdiger Bertram’s novel and is inspired by true events. The suspenseful drama, set in 1940, focuses on an escape route across the Pyrenees mountain range dividing France from Spain, used by hundreds of political refugees to escape Nazi persecution.

The film centers on German journalist Ludwig, who is on the run from the Nazis, and his 12-year-old son Rolf. They are trying to travel to New York, where Rolf’s mother is waiting for them, but are stranded in Marseille. The only route to freedom is a dangerous path over the Pyrenees to Spain. Global Screen has picked up global distribution rights to “The Path,” which is based on Rüdiger Bertram’s novel and inspired by true events. The Munich-based sales agency will be taking part in the virtual Pre-Cannes Screenings, where it will present a teaser trailer for the film as it kicks off presales. “The Path” will be released theatrically in Germany by Warner Bros.

Canneseries, the annual TV festival running alongside the Miptv content market in Cannes, has unveiled the competition line-up for its second edition (April 5-10).

The first two epsidoes from 10 new international series will screen in the main competition.

Titles include Channing Powell’s London-set psychological thriller The Feed for Amazon and Liberty Global. David Thewlis stars in the dystopian tale as the inventor of a brain implant that allows people to share thoughts and emotions alongside Guy Burnet, Michelle Fairley and Nina Toussaint-White as his family members.

Netflix movies may still be question mark in terms of being allowed in competition at the 2019 Cannes Film Festival in May, but the streaming giant will be present at Cannes Series. The Cannes television festival will mark its second year next month with Netflix going up against rival Amazon in the competition section. The full lineup includes series from Israel, Norway, Spain, and Belgium.

Netflix’s competition entry is the German series “How to Sell Drugs Online Fast,” from writers Philipp Käßbohrer and Matthias Murmann. Amazon is heading to Cannes Series with “The Feed,” a London-set drama created by Channing Powell and based on the novel Nick Clark Windo. “The Feed” stars “Game of Thrones” favorite Michelle Fairley opposite David Thewlis in a story about a piece of technology that allows people to instantly share thoughts and emotions. The tech falls into the wrong hands and becomes a murderous weapon.

Cannes Series has revealed the lineup, jury and masterclasses for its second edition, which takes place alongside the Mip TV market on the French Riviera.

Among ten series in competition at the TV festival are Netflix’s German show How To Sell Drugs Online and Amazon’s UK series The Feed with Michelle Fairley and David Thewlis. Out of competition shows include Starz’ Now Apocalypse and Russel T Davies’ Years And Years. Scroll down for the lineup in full.

The competition jury will be presided over by Dark show-runner Baran bo Odar with members comprising actor, director and author Stephen Fry (Gosford Park), actors Miriam Leone (Non Uccidere) and Emma Mackey (Sex Education), actor and director Katheryn Winnick (Vikings) and composer Rob (The Bureau). Studiocanal UK has debuted the official UK trailer for a Germany comedy film titled My Blind Date with Life, or originally Mein Blind Date mit dem Leben in German. The film tells the true story of a student who nearly became blind as a teenager. He keeps his limited eye sight a secret and starts working at a hotel in Munich, soon falling in love with a woman. Kostja Ullmann stars as the lead character Saliya Kahawatte, with a cast including Anna Maria Mühe, Nilam Farooq, Sylvana Krappatsch, Ludger Pistor, Johann von Bülow, and Herbert Forthuber. This looks like a very cheesy German romantic comedy, but there's a heartwarming story behind it all. That said, this doesn't seem like it will be good. At least you can get a glimpse at what campy German comedies are like - have fun.
