Ryan Gosling at an event for Lost River (2014)
Ryan Gosling & Will Ferrell to star in action-comedy ‘Tough Guys’ at Amazon MGM
Ryan Gosling at an event for Lost River (2014)
Amazon MGM is bringing together two of Hollywood’s most charismatic stars for a high-octane buddy comedy with a twist. Ryan Gosling and Will Ferrell are set to headline ‘Tough Guys,’ an action-comedy centred on two henchmen who’ve had enough of life in the shadows — and are ready to flip the script.

Written by Daniel Gold as a spec script, ‘Tough Guys’ follows two low-level enforcers who, after years of being treated as expendable, break free from the criminal underworld. Their mission? Abandon their ruthless boss and survive the elite assassin now hunting them down. It’s a sharp, genre-bending premise blending explosive action with irreverent humour — tailor-made for its stars.

Also in news – Aaron Taylor-Johnson joins Robert Eggers ‘Werwulf,’ Lily Rose Depp in talks to join cast

Gosling, currently in talks to produce the film, will do so under his General Admission banner alongside producing partner Jessie Henderson.

Ryan Gosling & Will Ferrell to Star in Action Comedy 'Tough Guys'
Image
Ryan Gosling is done being a nice guy. The actor is in talks to star in and produce Tough Guys, a new action comedy for Amazon MGM Studios. He is set to share the screen with comedy legend Will Ferrell for the feature, which isn't connected to Ferrell's buddy cop hit The Other Guys, nor Gosling's The Nice Guysor The Fall Guy. We guess they're just two guys who like being, well, guys… and if you ask us, they're the iconic duo we never knew we needed until now — though some people may have been hoping for a different team-up.

As reported by Deadline, Tough Guys is based on a spec script by longtime Workin' Moms scribe Daniel Gold, telling the story of "two henchmen who are tired of being disposable and break free from the criminal underworld, rewriting the rules as they build a new life on their own terms.

Ryan Gosling Starring In New Action Comedy, & Its Title Hilariously Builds On A Unique Trend
Image
Ryan Gosling's new movie continues a strange trend for the star. Gosling is a well-known actor who got his start at age 13 and became a major adult star thanks to his performance in the 2004 Nicholas Sparks romance The Notebook. He has now been nominated for three Oscars, for his performances in Half Nelson, La La Land, and Barbie.

Ryan Gosling movies are notable for giving the star a broad variety of genres to bring to life. In addition to romance, his wide-ranging resume includes drama (Blue Valentine), comedy, thriller (Murder by Numbers), action (The Gray Man), sci-fi (Blade Runner 2049), and more.

Per Deadline, one of Ryan Gosling's next movies will be an action comedy. He has boarded the cast of the Amazon MGM Studios production Tough Guys, which will also star Will Ferrell.

The movie, which is based on a spec script by Daniel Gold (Workin' Moms) and...

Ryan Gosling, Will Ferrell Teaming for Action Comedy ‘Tough Guys’ at Amazon MGM Studios
Image
Ryan Gosling and Will Ferrell ready for a tough new project. The duo are in talks to star in and produce Tough Guys, an action-comedy being set up at Amazon MGM Studios.

Longtime Workin’ Moms scribe Daniel Gold penned the script as a spec, which has the following logline: “Fed up with being ‘disposable,’ two henchmen break free from the criminal underworld and rewrite the rules as they abandon their ruthless boss and dodge the elite assassin on their trail.”

Gosling helped bring Ferrell onto the project after becoming enamored with the script. The Oscar-nominated actor is already a favorite at Amazon MGM Studios, which will release Project Hail Marry on March 20, 2026. The sci-fi feature’s first trailer arrived last week, ahead of a splashy Hall H panel at San Diego Comic-Con next week. Ferrell, meanwhile, is also a fixture at the studio as the star of the recently released...

Ryan Gosling and Will Ferrell Are 'Tough Guys' In a New Crime Comedy
Image
Ryan Gosling is trading in Ken’s fur coat for a bulletproof vest. The La La Land star is set to headline Tough Guys, a new action comedy that pairs him with none other than his Barbie co-star Will Ferrell. The project is in development at Amazon MGM Studios, Deadline has confirmed, with both stars set to produce through their respective banners. And no, this is not a sequel to The Fall Guy, nor is it a sequel to their Jimmy Kimmel bit, Knife Guys. Or even Guys and Dolls.

Originally written as a spec script by Daniel Gold, Tough Guys tells the story of two criminal henchmen who are fed up with being expendable cannon fodder. Tired of their roles in the shadows, they decide to ditch the underworld entirely and rewrite the rules on their own terms — by breaking free and forging a new path. Expect equal parts bullets and belly laughs,...

With Sweeney producing and starring and Roth penning the script, the project is already drawing major buzz despite being in early development.

Joe Cote — an English teacher in Massachusetts — took to a sub-Reddit four years ago and penned a chilling story about a girl who used a family’s heartache as a tool to infiltrate their home and rob them. It was well-received on the site, with almost 4,000 upvotes and hundreds of comments under the post talking about it. Many said a missing person...

Sydney Sweeney Starring In & Producing Thriller ‘I Pretended To Be A Missing Girl’ At Warner Bros
Image
Here’s a cool one in the works at Warner Bros: Sydney Sweeney is attached to star in and produce I Pretended to Be a Missing Girl, via her Fifty-Fifty Films.

The movie project is based on a Reddit short story by Joe Cote. Fifty-Fifty notched Oscar-winning Forrest Gump and Dune scribe Eric Roth to adapt it.

In the short story, a drifter impersonates a missing girl to rob the girl’s family — only to realize she’s made a terrible mistake.

Sydney Sweeney Turning an English Teacher’s Reddit Short Story Into a Movie
Image
Four years ago, a high school English teacher posted a short story to Reddit, a tale with Gone Girl-worthy twists and turns. Now, Joe Cote is in the midst of his own real-life plot twist.

The Massachusetts-based educator’s project is in development as a feature, with Sydney Sweeney attached to star and produce, and Oscar-winning Forrest Gump scribe Eric Roth penning the script.

Warner Bros. has won the rights to the package in a competitive situation that now puts the teacher on Hollywood’s radar. He first landed representation after manager Aaron Folbe of Underground Entertainment stumbled upon the story and sought Cote out for a meeting.

Sweeney’s involvement on the project then pushed it into overdrive, with her bringing Roth aboard.

Cote’s story, titled “I pretended to be a missing girl,” centers on a young woman who shows up at a family’s doorsteps ten...

Manager Aaron Folbe Joins Underground
Image
Exclusive: Beverly Hills-based management and production company, Underground, has bolstered its team with the addition of Aaron Folbe as Manager, Deadline has learned.

Folbe joins after a little over two years at Industry Entertainment, where he served as Lit Coordinator. In his new role, he will continue to focus on supporting and developing the careers of writers, directors, and performers.

Folbe’s new role comes shortly following a major win for his clients Adam and Daniel Cooper, who in June sold their short story “I Used To Eat Brains, Now I Eat Kale” to Amazon MGM Studios for feature development, with Ryan Gosling and his production company General Admission attached to produce. Folbe took on the Cooper twins as clients before his time at Industry Entertainment — while serving as an assistant at Artists First — and closed the deal in between his exit from that company and his Underground hire. The...

Amazon MGM Lands Zombie Package ‘I Used To Eat Brains, Now I Eat Kale’ From Ryan Gosling’s General Admission
Image
Amazon MGM Studios has landed I Used to Eat Brains, Now I Eat Kale, a zombie feature package based on the same-name adventure-comedy short story from Adam and Daniel Cooper, aka The Cooper Twins.

The story is set in a “post-post-apocalyptic” world where former zombies struggle to reintegrate. Ryan Gosling and Jessie Henderson will produce the film under their first-look deal with the studio through recently launched banner General Admission.

When The InSneider’s Jeff Sneider broke the news of the package earlier his month, he reported that Gosling is also attached to star. We’re told that there’s no truth to the assertion, and that no casting attachments have been made. The Coopers will script the feature adaptation.

Coming off of an Oscar nomination for his role as Ken in Warner Bros’ record-setting pop culture sensation Barbie, Gosling can currently be seen starring opposite Emily Blunt in The Fall Guy,...

Amazon MGM, Ryan Gosling Team for Zombie Comedy ‘I Used to Eat Brains, Now I Eat Kale’
Image
Amazon MGM Studios has landed zombie comedy film package I Used to Eat Brains, Now I Eat Kale.

Ryan Gosling will produce the feature with Jessie Henderson, his partner at General Admission, the production banner the duo launched earlier this year. The project will fall under the company’s first-look deal with Amazon.

Twins Adam and Daniel Cooper wrote the unpublished 42-page short story and will write the script adapting their own work.

Story details are being kept hidden, but it is described as being set in a “post-post-apocalyptic” world where former zombies struggle to reintegrate. The project hit the market earlier in June.

Gosling is not attached to star in it at this stage, and there is no director on board yet.

The Oscar-nominated actor is coming off Universal’s The Fall Guy and is due to next shoot Project Hail Mary for Amazon MGM. Phil Lord and Chris Miller are directing.
