Joe Eszterhas on Rebooting ‘Basic Instinct,’ Going Anti-Woke and His Wavering Trump Support | Exclusive
Image
Joe Eszterhas left Hollywood behind after tearing a legendary swath through the industry in the ‘80s and ‘90s writing iconic, sexy hit movies like “Flashdance,” “Jagged Edge,” Sliver,” “Jade” – and perhaps the most transgressive of them all, “Basic Instinct” starring Sharon Stone as mysterious serial killer Catherine Tramell, pursued by Michael Douglas, a detective in her thrall.

The movie launched 100 copycats, set the mold for the post-feminist femme fatale and made a boatload of money in release and forever-after in video and streaming.

But while Eszterhas has been holed up in his hometown of Cleveland, Ohio, living a post-Hollywood life of faith and family with his wife Naomi (also writing memoirs and such), apparently he’s not quite done. Last week he made a mega-deal to reboot “Basic Instinct” for Amazon-MGM, at a maximum fee of $4 million if the movie gets made.

If you are good with puzzles, you would definitely enjoy brainstorming solutions in Conexo, Contexto, and Letroso. While guessing the right word is part of the game, you do need to make the right ones. Today’s puzzles were a bit more challenging compared to last week, so it may take you some time.

Still, all the games on Daydash’s website give you feedback on your inputs to let you solve them. Even though that is the case, finding the solution to Contexto always remains a challenge, as it could be anything. The key is to find the context, which can be misleading at times.

Conexo was a bit challenging as well today, because some categories were confusing. On the contrary, Letroso was the easiest of the bunch. If you’re having problems solving these puzzles, I’m here to show you how to solve them.

Spoiler Alert !!!This article contains solutions to Conexo,...

4 reasons Conan O'Brien’s Mark Twain Prize Night is a must-watch comedy event
Image
Conan O'Brien has had quite a career. Even though he has hosted a late-night show on one of the original three big networks, he always seemed like one of us. He was seemingly lucky to have what he got, and he knew it.

But he was also always more talented than he let on, and others knew it. Adam Sandler confessed at March's Mark Twain Prize ceremony (the 2025 prize went to O'Brien) that when O'Brien was writing for Saturday Night Live, he was always "quicker" and "funnier" than everyone else. The thread running from Conan's days working on The Simpsons to his current podcast is humor, and lots of it.

One of the best parts about the Mark Twain Prize this year is that Netflix viewers can now watch it on their favorite streamer. There are moments of oddness, but several of pure hilarious entertainment. Here are four of the best.

15 Best Movies Based On True Stories
Image
Films based on, adapted from, or loosely inspired by real-life events have been commonplace since the beginning of cinema, and they remain a highly popular proposition to this day. This makes perfect sense, because not only does ripping from historical record allow filmmakers to bypass the old Twain-ian dictum about truth being fundamentally stranger than fiction, but there's just an extra oomph of fascination to watching events unfold in a movie while knowing they bear at least some small measure of resemblance to things that actually happened.

The number of great films based on true stories is, frankly, too great to even count. You could honestly make a sizable list of the best such movies for every year since 1925, but here, we've tried to come up with a roster of exemplary masterpieces that showcase the very best of what fact-based cinema can be. Heavy fictionalization, historical liberties, and artistic license may apply,...

Conan O'Brien explains why Donald Trump didn't keep him from Kennedy Center
Image
Conan O'Brien explained why the controversy surrounding President Donald Trump and the Kennedy Center didn't keep him away from the Mark Twain Prize Ceremony. And in typical O'Brien fashion, he had a thoughtful, measured response.

O'Brien recently received the Mark Twain Prize for comedy, a much-deserved recognition for the comedy legend. Netflix will stream the ceremony in May, which featured appearances by Will Ferrell, Adam Sandler, and John Mulaney.

There was an extra layer of media attention on the event that (unfortunately) had nothing to do with O'Brien. The ceremony was the first national event at the Kennedy Center following President Trump's decision to replace the president and chairman with himself.

Trump's decision led to a string of protests. Some artists withdrew from appearing at the Kennedy Center or canceled plans to host events at the Washington, D.C. location.

“Obviously for the last couple of months with the new administration,...

Val Kilmer’s 10 Greatest Performances: ‘Top Gun,’ ‘Heat,’ and More
Image
Val Kilmer had a face that belonged in movies. A stunningly beautiful heartthrob known for his chiseled jaw and shock of blonde hair that looked great either messy or perfectly coiffed, Kilmer practically glowed whenever he was onscreen, as if he was put on Earth by God himself for the purpose of getting immortalized on film.

What made Kilmer not just a flash-in-the-pan but an icon of the ‘90s, though, is that he was far more than just a pretty face. Trained at Julliard and initially finding work as a stage actor, Kilmer took his craft seriously, and in his peak years held all of his roles with equal weight, whether it was a prestige drama like “Heat” or a silly comic book blockbuster like “Batman Forever.” His choices in projects, especially later in life when he spent years playing his hero Mark Twin in live stage shows, reflected someone...

Just when we thought it might be dead, TVLine’s Doctor Odyssey Fever Dream Theory has never felt more alive and well.

In Thursday’s episode, which saw Shania Twain return for Cougar Week, Dr. Max made a deadpan delivery of a repeated truth: “This is heaven.” Just when we think they’ll zig after that 9-1-1 crossover, they go back to their origins and zag. It’s like the show is teasing us! And just like that, our theory — which argues the entire ship is purgatory and Dr. Max is trapped in a Covid-induced hallucination — has been resuscitated.

10 Scariest Animated Movies of All Time, Ranked
Image
Just because a movie is animated doesn’t mean it’s all sunshine and rainbows. In fact, some of the most unsettling, eerie, and downright terrifying films ever made are animated. Whether it’s through disturbing character designs, nightmare-inducing villains, or deeply existential themes that hit even harder as you grow up, these movies have left lasting impressions on kids and grown-ups alike.

From spine-chilling stop-motion to traditionally animated nightmares, plenty of movies, particularly in the 1980s and 1990s, pushed the boundaries of what “kid-friendly” really means. Whether they scarred you as a child or continue to haunt your dreams as an adult, these movies are sure to have gotten under your skin at some point. Some of them lean into horror outright, while others use their unsettling elements to craft unforgettable, eerie experiences that trickle into your thoughts far beyond childhood.

Bill Carter writes: Conan O'Brien's Mark Twain Prize acceptance speech, which was released online Tuesday night, is extraordinary not just for the searingly timely evocation of Twain’s singular talent for capturing the glories and the embarrassments of American democracy, but also for the man who decided to speak up for how resonant Twain’s place in American literature and humor is at this moment in history.

Conan O’Brien Kennedy Center honor turns into unofficial Trump roast for Netflix
Image
Last May, Netflix grabbed significant headlines and millions of viewers with The Roast of Tom Brady, a three-hour comedy event in which some of the industry’s top comics — including Kevin Hart and Nikki Glaser — brutally mocked the legendary NFL quarterback to his face.

The streamer will host a similar mockery this May with The Mark Twain Prize for American Humor: Celebrating Conan O'Brien. The event, which Netflix will premiere on May 4, honored O'Brien on Sunday night at the embattled Kennedy Center in Washington, D.C., and quickly turned into an unofficial roast of President Donald Trump.

“I just really miss the days when you were America’s only orange a--hole,” Sarah Silverman said during her tribute to O’Brien, one of several references to Trump.

During his segment, John Mulaney goofed on Trump for his apparent enthusiasm for the camp musical Cats, suggesting the Kennedy Center would soon be...

Conan O’Brien Feted With Mark Twain Prize as Comedians Take Aim at Trump: ‘I Miss the Days When You Were America’s Only Orange A–hole’
Image
Talk show veteran Conan O’Brien was feted with the Kennedy Center’s Mark Twain Prize for American Humor Sunday in a lively production that blended accolades from numerous colleagues with occasional jabs at the Trump administration by participants — included the evening’s honoree.

Fellow Mark Twain Prize winner Will Ferrell was among those on hand to celebrate O’Brien. He couldn’t resist a reference to current events in Washington. Ferrell joked that he didn’t budget enough time for the ceremony: “I’m supposed to be shutting down the Department of Education,” he quipped.

Fresh off his emcee duties at the Academy Awards, O’Brien received the Mark Twain prize from David Letterman at the conclusion of the roast-style love fest from numerous comedians at the annual affair. Slated to air as a special on Netflix at a future date, it was the first national event held at the...

Why Conan O'Brien Accepted the Kennedy Center Prize Amid Trump Takeover
Image
Conan O’Brien is accepting a big honor, although it comes amid controversy.

While some performers have canceled upcoming appearances and pledged not to return to the Kennedy Center amid Donald Trump‘s takeover, including stars like Whoopi Goldberg and Lin-Manuel Miranda, the 61-year-old comedian and former late night TV host accepted the Mark Twain Prize for American Humor on Sunday (March 23).

Conan was named the 26th recipient of the Mark Twain Prize back in January, weeks before Trump fired most of the institution’s board and replaced them with his own supporters to elect him as the new chairman.

Conan explained his decision to still come and accept the honor on the red carpet at the event.

The 9 Best Trump Burns From Conan O’Brien’s Mark Twain Prize Ceremony
Image
“Mark Twain hated bullies, and he populated his works with abusers, such as Huck Finn’s abusive father, and he made his readers hate those characters,” noted Conan O’Brien last night upon receiving the Mark Twain Prize for American Humor at the suddenly controversial Kennedy Center. “He punched up, not down.”

O’Brien’s praise of Twain was a not-so-subtle rebuke of Donald Trump, the man attempting to remake the Kennedy Center in his own image. The night’s all-star roster of comedians also roasted Trump’s takeover of the night’s venue — without actually evoking his name. Here are nine of the best Trump burns from the ceremony…

Conan O’Brien’s Mark Twain Prize Ceremony Doubled as a Roast of Trump’s Kennedy Center
Image
When Donald Trump launched his takeover of the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts earlier this year, it was with the promise of restoring what he called the “golden age of arts and culture.” Since then, artists and performers have increasingly distanced themselves from the venue and the administration by canceling scheduled appearances. But even the ones who have shown up have done so in protest, to some extent. On Sunday, Conan O’Brien was presented the Mark Twain Prize for Humor at the Kennedy Center. Conan O’Brien Accepts Mark Twain Prize for Humor While Acknowledging the Kennedy Center’s Uncertain Future
Image
On a night when half a dozen people made jokes about this being the last-ever Mark Twain Prize, Conan O’Brien made sure the ceremony at the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts ended on a high note.

O’Brien accepted the award for lifetime achievement in comedy Sunday night while acknowledging the backstage turmoil that hangs over the future of the cultural center in Washington, D.C.

O’Brien, 61, was named the 26th recipient of the Mark Twain Prize in mid-January, about three weeks before President Donald Trump upended the Kennedy Center by ousting longtime president Deborah Rutter and board chairman David Rubenstein. Trump dismissed the board of trustees and replaced them with loyalists, who then elected him chairman.

On Sunday, O’Brien specifically thanked Rubenstein and Rutter — drawing an extended round of applause — and also Kennedy Center staffers who, he said, were “worried about what the future might bring.

Comics Skewer Donald Trump’s Kennedy Center Takeover As Conan O’Brien Accepts Its Mark Twain Prize
Image
As he presented the Mark Twain Prize to Conan O’Brien at the end of a ceremony at the Kennedy Center this evening, David Letterman said to the audience, “I’m not a historian, but I believe that history will show, in history for all time, this will have been the most entertaining gathering of the resistance, ever.”

Letterman was speaking to what was like an act of resistance, given that Donald Trump now controls the Kennedy Center, after ousting the president, firing board members to ensure loyalty and ensuring that he himself would be the chairman of the arts institution.

Throughout the evening, comedians tossed in quips at the situation in their comic roasting and heartfelt tributes to O’Brien.

Stephen Colbert: “This is a very different place. Today they announced two board members, Bashar-al-Assad and Skeletor.”

John Mulaney: “Welcome to the Kennedy Center, or as it will be known next week,...

Shania Twain Gives New Voice to Coffee Mate’s Super Bowl Commercial
Image
Nestle’s Coffee mate aims to lick Super Bowl advertising rivals not with a celebrity cameo but rather with a celebrity tongue.

Shaina Twain provides the voice of a multitalented mouth appendage that dances, sings, plays a variety of instruments and even does a mid-air flip in a 30-second spot for the non-dairy creamer’s “Cold Foam” variety, which provides flavors such as Nestle Toll House Brown Butter Chocolate Chip Cookie, Italian Sweet Crème and French Vanilla.

“You have to have a good sense of humor when you do something like that,” says Twain during a recent interview with Variety, noting that she enjoyed singing the “boppy, poppy song” that marketing executives devised (among the lyrics: “Have you ever seen a tongue do this?”)

Coffee mate will be among a multitude of food advertisers hoping to get just a taste of the disposable income of Super Bowl audiences on February...

James Gunn Clears Up 'Creature Commandos' Confusion After New Dcu Movie Announcement
Image
Creature Commandos seemingly featured many deaths for some DC characters, but one stuck out to fans given recent developments. In Episode 5, the villain Clayface is seemingly killed by Eric Frankenstein, and the death seems to be confirmed when, in Episode 8, Amanda Waller and John Economos find Clayface's destroyed body a day later in the story's timeline. This was puzzling to many viewers, as right before the Clayface debut episode aired, it was confirmed that filmmaker Mike Flanagan was working on a Clayface movie.

Director James Gunn has now clarified the status of Clayface's role in the Dcu and whether the character is dead. The director took to Bluesky (via ComicBook), clarifying that Clayface is Not dead within the Dcu: “The reports of Clayface’s death have been greatly exaggerated. He is quite mushy, though.” Gunn's comments are a play on Mark Twain's famous response to a newspaper that erroneously published his obituary.

It’s like Dolly Parton without makeup, but Christmas has apparently inspired Shania Twain to embrace a more natural look. The country icon is famous for her full-glam and ultra-gorgeous looks, but for Christmas, she is just like the rest of us – with a messy bun to match.

Development continues on "Spider-Man" co-creator Steve Ditko's faceless crime fighter 'The Question" as a live action crime-fighting vigilante character for a DC Studios TV series:

'The Question' ('Vic Sage') created by writer/illustrator Steve Ditko, debuted in Charlton Comics' Blue Beetle #1 (June 1967), followed by Charlton's "Mysterious Suspense" (October 1968) .

Superman Isn’t Jewish (But I An…Kinda) by Jimmy Bemon and Émilie Boudet

With supposedly-nonfiction books, I’ll focus tightly while reading on how true they are, looking for any crack in the verisimilitude that might imply some fiction has made its way into the mix. I think that’s pretty common: we want to know what kind of stories we’re being told, how constructed they are, to know how to respond.

But it’s not always clear how much the book is claiming to be nonfiction. This graphic novel – or bande dessinée, since it’s originally from France – is in the “Life Drawn” series from Humanoids, which I thought meant it was clearly, well, drawn from life. But I just took a look at their website, and the series is described as “Biographies and slice-of-life tales that show us what it means to be human” – and, more specifically, Wander Antunes’s adaptation of Twain’s short story Man Who Corrupted Hadleyburg , which I read recently,...

Doctor Odyssey lands the Queen of Country Pop in a guest star role
Image
As we roll into fall, we’re starting to get trailers for the new and returning shows. The trailer for the new Ryan Murphy medical drama Doctor Odyssey is here, and we couldn’t be more excited. Okay, maybe we are a little more excited because Shania Twain will guest star.

A rocket scientist doesn’t impress her much, but what about the doctor of a luxury cruise liner? That’s something we’ll need to find out.

Shaina Twain’s character details on Doctor Odyssey haven’t been revealed yet

In some bad news, we have no idea who Shania Twain will play. It is possible that she will play herself, which will be a great way to start off the season. It wouldn’t be the first time Murphy’s dramas have brought real-life people into the story. 911 brought in a Bachelor crossover during the seventh season.

Shania Twain Dances With Don Johnson in ‘Doctor Odyssey’ Teaser| Video
Image
It wouldn’t be a Ryan Murphy series without a killer lineup of guest stars, and ABC’s upcoming “Doctor Odyssey” has a great one. Country music legend Shania Twain will guest star on the drama, which premieres Sept. 26.

Twain even briefly appears in the first teaser for the drama. “Doctor, welcome aboard the Odyssey,” Capt. Robert Massey (Don Johnson) says in the two-minute long clip. “This ship is heaven. Our mission is to preserve the dream, and that’s why you’re here.”

“I’m in,” Dr. Max Bankman (Joshua Jackson) says in response.

As they have this exchange, “Wouldn’t It Be Nice” by the Beach Boys plays in the background as a heart rate monitor can be heard increasing in speed. When the monitor is at its most rapid, the drama cranks up.

In rapid succession, the teaser shows Dr. Bankman performing CPR, someone falling off the railing of the ship,...

For the ‘Twisters’ Soundtrack, Country Musicians Wrote Songs for Specific Scenes
Image
“Twisters” director Lee Isaac Chung wanted to capture the spirit and culture of storm trackers, whose profession requires a great deal of time in cars and trucks.

“Everybody I talked to in Oklahoma who chases, music is such an integral part of it,” said Chung when he was a recent guest on IndieWire’s Toolkit podcast. “Anytime I’d ask, ‘What’s on your playlist?’ you’d see them break into a smile, and everybody has a different music choice.”

In the Chung household, there is a rule: Whoever is driving picks the music. On “Twisters,” director Chung drove the proverbial train, and the country music lover got to build his dream soundtrack. For a film that takes part mostly on dirt roads in rural areas of Oklahoma, with characters driving into storms when most sane people are headed in the other direction, an outlaw country music sound also made sense.
