When Roland Emmerich's 1994 movie "Stargate" made almost $200 million on a $55 million budget it seemed primed to become a franchise. But rather than pump out a sequel, it was decided that the saga would fare better on TV. Unfortunately, Emmerich turned down "Stargate Sg-1," citing a belief that his desired budgets just wouldn't have been feasible within the confines of the small screen.

Emmerich wasn't the only one who didn't come back for the debut of the inaugural "Stargate" series. Kurt Russell chose not to return as lead character Colonel Jack O'Neill, prompting a search for a new actor that had at least some of Russell's gravitas. This resulted in "MacGuyver" star Richard Dean Anderson being drafted in to play the leader of the "Sg-1" crew, tasked with exploring the universe via the titular portal.

Dune: Prophecy star Travis Fimmel's highly underrated video-game adaptation will soon arrive on the same streaming platform as his Dune universe project. 2016's Warcraft will hit Max on January 1.

Directed by Duncan Jones, who co-wrote the script with Charles Leavitt, the action-fantasy movie follows Fimmel's Anduin Lothar of Stormwind and Durotan of the Frostwolf clan, a renegade orc portrayed by Toby Kebell. The two heroes are set on opposite sides of a growing war, as the warlock Gul'dan (Daniel Wu) leads the Horde to invade Azeroth using a magic portal. A Lego Ninjago live-action movie is now in the works at Universal Pictures. The creators of the long-running Ninjago animated series will work on the new film.

Deadline reports that brothers Kevin and Dan Hageman are working on the script for the Lego Ninjago franchise's live-action film, while Jake Kasdan (Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle), Patty Jenkins (Wonder Woman), Joe Cornish (The Kid Who Would Be King) were announced to be on board to direct different live-action Lego movies for Universal. The exact plot of the Hagemans' film has yet to be revealed, nor are any actors currently attached to the project. Ninjago was first introduced in 2011 by Lego to coincide with the animated television series of the same name and has gone on to spawn films, video games and comics.

Director Matt Reeves may be taking the Planet of the Apes franchise in a new direction with War for the Planet of the Apes, but the upcoming sequel has now been confirmed to feature a character familiar to fans of 1968's Planet of the Apes.

New concept art unveiled by EW features the gorilla Luca (Michael Adamthwaite) sharing a tender moment with a mute girl known as Nova (Amiah Miller), who EW reveals is the same character portrayed by Linda Harrison in the '68 film.

It's not yet known if Nova's destiny will still be on track to meet astronaut Taylor (played by Charlton Heston in the original Planet of the Apes movie), or if she'll instead take a different path in the new films, but as Reeves told EW, she'll play a key role in Caesar's (Andy Serkis) inner turmoil:

Following the Cannes premiere of Steven Spielberg’s follow-up to Bridge of Spies, his adaptation of Roald Dahl‘s The Bfg, Disney has released a new full-length trailer for the adventure, giving away much more of the titular character’s fantasy-filled world. Unfortunately, we were mixed on the film, saying in our review from the festival, “CGI loses the day in Steven Spielberg’s The Bfg, a partly motion-captured, eco-minded adaptation of Roald Dahl’s adored children’s book that leans so heavily on green-screen trickery that even Mark Rylance’s kind eyes — squinting out from that computer-generated abyss — can’t save it from mediocrity.

Strange and otherwise terrifying things tend to happen on Friday the 13th, at least according to superstition and a certain horror franchise featuring a machete-wielding maniac, but it was on Thursday the 13th of March, in 1997, that the residents of Phoenix, Arizona experienced a good deal of unusual activity. On that night, an unidentified flying object was spotted and filmed by thousands of people in both Phoenix and Sonora, Mexico, and to date, the strange v-shaped pattern of lights has never quite been explained – at least not in any sort of satisfying way.

After directing Bridge of Spies starring Tom Hanks, director Steven Spielberg is moving very quickly to begin production on his next project, an adaptation of Roald Dahl's classic children's book The Bfg (which means The Big Friendly Giant). Shooting is beginning in Vancouver this month, and today Walt Disney Studios announced that it will co-produce and co-finance the film DreamWorks. In addition, "Flight of the Conchords" and What We Do in the Shadows star Jemaine Clement has been added to the cast of the family friendly adventure as another giant in the film, and he's joined by several other supporting stars. Disney also has added Michael David Adamthwaite, Daniel Bacon, Chris Gibbs, Adam Godley, Jonathan Holmes, Paul Moniz de Sa and Olafur Olaffson, all joining the film as giants, and they've confirmed Bill Hader, who was revealed to have joined the cast recently, and has been confirmed to be a giant as well.

Controversial director Uwe Boll is making headlines once more, but this time he isn't boxing critics or suing film festivals. Producer Bob Van Ronkel is suing the German director for $1 million, claiming his name was intentionally misspelled on the credits of In the Name of the King 2: Two Worlds.

The lawsuit alleges that Bob Van Ronkel's name was purposefully changed to "Rob Van Runkel," after the producer and director clashed over Bob Van Ronkel's producers fee. After his title was completely stripped from the film, a compromise was reached and he was given an associate producer credit, only to see his named misspelled during the end credits, which the producer claims Uwe Boll did on purpose. Bob Van Ronkel's name was also left off the DVD box art and other marketing materials. Here is an excerpt from the lawsuit, which was filed today in the Los Angeles Superior Court.
