Hearing that Jesse Moss and Tony Gerber’s documentary concerns a war game conducted to test the country’s readiness for a national security crisis, it was easy to imagine a scenario involving an international threat posed by, say, China or Russia. No such luck. It turns out that War Game chronicles an exercise revolving around a threat from within, namely the sort of insurrection that occurred on Jan. 6, 2021. The film, receiving its U.S. theatrical premiere at NYC’s Film Forum, serves as a bracing reminder that such an event could occur again, and indeed seems even more likely should a certain Republican nominee for president decide to incite more violence.
The filmmakers have experience dealing with such concepts. Moss co-directed the acclaimed Boys State and Girls State, in which groups of young people attempted to form democratic governments; and Gerber and Moss made Full Battle Rattle, about the...

Former Trump National Security Advisor and retired US. Army Lt. Gen. Michael Flynn is suing the U.S. government on grounds of wrongful prosecution, according to a new legal filing obtained by Rolling Stone. He is seeking $50 million in damages.
The lawsuit stems from a 2016 FBI investigation during the Obama administration over Flynn’s suspected ties to Russia. In 2017, Flynn pled guilty to lying to the FBI regarding his association with Russian contacts. Shortly after the 2020 election, the former head of the Defense Intelligence Agency (Dia) received a pardon from Trump.

Fox News’ Brian Kilmeade ranted against the FBI Tuesday morning on “Fox & Friends” in defense of former President Donald Trump, in the aftermath of the bureau’s raid on his Mar-a-Lago residence.
His comments were sparked by the retirement of FBI assistant special agent Timothy Thibault, who earlier this year was accused by Sen. Chuck Grassley of “improper conduct” in regards to the FBI’s investigation into President Joe Biden’s son Hunter Biden. Grassley alleged that Thibault had interfered in the probe in an effort to shut it down.
“This is the guy who is suppressing the Hunter Biden story that has direct financial links to the future president of the United States,” Kilmeade said. “How this guy is able to retire even though he was walked out in shame is unbelievable!”

Bill Maher brimmed with satisfaction Friday having swapped his backyard for a studio, an audience and live guests for the first time in months in an inching-back-to-normal Real Time with Bill Maher.
“There’s real people. Thank you Jesus. Thank you. People!” he exclaimed, throwing up his arms wide to welcome a miracle. The show is filmed at CBS Television City’s Studio 33.
The HBO show is the first big talk show to bring back a crowd, just 25 people for now but almost loud enough. “This is interesting, you can hear people laugh individually. Oh, I see that lady like that joke, that guy didn’t,” the host said.
These pandemic weeks have seen Maher bounce from enraged to peevish at his shelter-at-home backdrop of grass and trees, at telling jokes in a vacuum about his dog and at trying to coax compelling interviews off a video screen.

Showtime's upcoming political miniseries The Comey Rule will detail a particularly turbulent time in the career of James Comey, the lawyer who went on to become the 7th director of the Federal Bureau of Investigation. Comey had various run-ins with current president, Donald Trump, who will be played in the series by In Bruges and Mr. Mercedes star Brendan Gleeson. Infamous for his outspoken nature, Trump is likely to have a defensive reaction to his portrayal in The Comey Rule, and director Billy Ray can't wait.
"I imagine we will be on his radar and I think it is likely the IRS will start auditing my taxes, but that's just a guess. I think at the very least, I'm in for a mean nickname on Twitter."
Despite his initial reaction being jovial, Ray got serious when it came to discussing putting actor Brendan Gleeson in the firing line. "I wouldn't...

‘Real Time With Bill Maher’: HBO Talk Show Brings Back Limited Audience & In-Person Roundtable Panel
Bill Maher has spent much of the last few months hearing canned laughter after his opening monologue on Real Time with Bill Maher.
This week, however, the comedian will hear the reaction of a live audience after the HBO show became the first major talk show to bring back a crowd.
This week’s episode of the show, which airs Friday at 10 pm, will tape with a limited 25-person studio audience and will also feature a roundtable discussion in the studio.
The show is thought to be the first talk show to bring back audiences following the Covid-19 production shutdown. A handful of gameshows are believed to be working on bringing in limited audiences, but it’s a sign of production slowly moving back towards how it was pre-Coronavirus.
This panel will include Peter Hamby, host of Snapchat’s political show Good Luck America and contributing writer for Vanity Fair,...

The actor playing ex-Celebrity Apprentice host may be in for a bit more than a mean moniker, in Ray’s estimation. “I wouldn’t want to expose any actor to the flack that I imagine Brendan is about to get from our current President,” he very seriously said Brendan Gleeson. “Ireland may not be far enough away,” Ray joked of the Irish actor’s current location.

President Donald Trump is shown firing an actor playing former President Barack Obama in a recently resurfaced video from 2012, when he was considering running for president.
Details about the video came to light in former Trump attorney Michael Cohen’s book, Disloyal: A Memoir, out on Tuesday via Skyhorse Publishing. According to The New York Times, Cohen describes the making of a video where a video where “Trump ritualistically belittled the first Black president and then fired him, a kind of fantasy fulfillment that it was hard to imagine any adult would spend serious money living out — until he did the functional equivalent in the real world.” The scene was reportedly made for the 2012 Republican National Convention, but was axed from the broadcast. Showtime has now released a new, much longer trailer for the upcoming miniseries The Comey Rule. The series follows Jeff Daniels as James Comey, the lawyer who went on to become the 7th director of the Federal Bureau of Investigation and his various run-ins with President Donald Trump, played here by In Bruges and Mr. Mercedes star Brendan Gleeson.
The trailer gives us a good idea of the kind of intense atmosphere and complexly plotted storyline of the miniseries, as Comey is brought further and further into the increasingly dark corridors of power. While Daniels expectedly looks like a solid focal point for the series, the real draw is Gleeson's seemingly pitch perfect portrayal of Trump. With just enough make-up and wig-work to turn Gleeson into the controversial President without overdoing it, the actor has nailed the voice, even adding a no doubt fictionalised sinister edge whenever the situation calls for it.

Showtime has officially released a trailer for upcoming two-night limited series “The Comey Rule,” featuring Jeff Daniels as former FBI director James Comey and Brendan Gleeson as President Trump. The miniseries, written and directed by Billy Ray and adapted from Comey’s book “A Higher Loyalty,” premieres on Sunday, Sept. 27.
Focusing on the events leading up to and following the 2016 U.S. presidential election, the first part of the series looks at the earliest days of the Russia investigation and the FBI’s prove of Hillary Clinton’s emails.
In the trailer, a voice on the phone says, “Russia — we think they’re trying to sabotage Secretary Clinton’s campaign.”
“How?” asks Daniels as Comey.
“Ever spend much time on Facebook?” is the reply.

The series follows the lawyer who went on to become the 7th director of the Federal Bureau of Investigation, James Comey, played by Jeff Daniels, and his various run-ins with President Donald Trump, played by Brendan Gleeson.
While the trailer is short, it gives us a good idea of the kind of intense atmosphere that will no doubt continue throughout, as Comey is brought further and further into the increasingly dark corridors of power. It also shows off quite a lot of Brendan Gleeson as Donald Trump, with the actor's take on Trump's voice sinisterly hovering over the footage. Though his face is mostly hidden in the trailer, several images from the series have already been released showing the prosthetics that are being used to turn Gleeson into a disturbingly accurate version of the divisive President.

The network has also released a first look at Jeff Daniels in character as the former FBI Director, and Brendan Gleeson in full Donald Trump mode.
Now titled “The Comey Rule” and based on Comey’s bestselling book “A Higher Loyalty,” the two-part, four-hour event series will take viewers on an insider’s journey down the corridors of power, where decision-makers struggle to apply old norms to a dramatic new paradigm in the face of Russia’s deep and unprecedented penetration into American politics, with our nation’s rule of law hanging in the balance.
Part one of the series examines the earliest days of the Russia investigation, the FBI’s investigation into Hillary Clinton’s emails and their impact on Election Night 2016, when Donald Trump stunned the world and was elected president.

Former FBI lawyer Lisa Page broke her silence over the weekend, speaking to The Daily Beast to defend herself from the constant attacks she has received from President Donald Trump after anti-Trump text messages surfaced between her and FBI agent Peter Strzok. Trump has used the texts as proof the FBI was against him, but Page maintains that her personal opinions had no bearing on her work at the FBI and the Russia investigation. A report from the Justice Department inspector general is expected on December 9 and reportedly will exonerate her.

“I have to ask you a question that has been plaguing me for a while: How did you kill Jeffrey Epstein?” Noah asked. The question elicited a laugh from the former secretary of state. But the host continued, getting to a larger point that has haunted Clinton since she’s been in the political public eye.

HBO has made it official: It has scrapped its in-the-works Game of Thrones spinoff from Jane Goldman. News of the project’s demise leaked earlier this week.
“After careful consideration, we have decided not to move forward to series with the untitled Game of Thrones prequel,” the premium cabler said in a statement late Friday. “We thank Jane Goldman, [fellow Ep] S.J. Clarkson, and the talented cast and crew for all of their hard work and dedication.”

Exclusive: For those concerned that the 4-hour CBS Studios miniseries based on James Comey’s book A Higher Loyalty might be a glowing portrait of the ex-FBI Director fired by Donald Trump: the series will include the embarrassing incident where FBI agent Peter Strzok and FBI lawyer Lisa Page — who were reportedly engaged in an extramarital affair — exchanged texts when Strzok was spearheading the Russia probe that reportedly disparaged Trump and favored Hillary Clinton during the presidential elections. It was a major embarrassment to the bureau Comey oversaw.
Rescue Me‘s Steven Pasquale has just been set to play Strzok and Oona Chaplin (Game of Thrones) to play Page. They join Jeff Daniels (Comey), Brendan Gleeson (Trump), Holly Hunter (Acting Attorney General Sally Yates), Michael Kelly (Acting FBI Director Andrew McCabe), Jennifer Ehle (Patrice Comey), and Peter Coyote (Robert Mueller).

In a heated exchange on Sunday’s Meet the Press, host Chuck Todd immediately called out Republican Sen. Ron Johnson for raising a conspiracy theory that is continuously mentioned on Fox News. “I have no idea why a Fox News conspiracy propaganda stuff is popping up on here. I have no idea, I have no idea why we’re going here,” Todd said.
The combative exchange started when Todd asked about a Wall Street Journal report that quoted the Wisconsin senator as saying that he “winced” when the U.S.

President Trump is not happy about the contents of the whistleblower complaint released to the public Thursday morning. He’s so mad, in fact, that he fantasized about a few rather extreme punishments for the people responsible.
The report includes several damning revelations, including details of how Trump pressured Ukraine to investigate a political rival, how the White House sought to cover up Trump’s July 25th call with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, and how Rudy Giuliani and Attorney General William Barr became entangled in the efforts.

Washington, D.C., ground to a standstill on Wednesday morning as former special counsel Robert Mueller testified before two congressional committees on Capitol Hill.
By 9:30 a.m. Pt on Wednesday, words and phrases related to the hearings made up eight of the nine topics trending nationally on Twitter. Social media users and TV viewers reacted in real time to the biggest moments of the testimony — which was only the first of two.
Below, find some of the biggest moments:
1. Trump Wasn’t Exonerated
The first round of questioning the former special counsel faced came from House Judiciary Committee chair Rep. Jerry Nadler, who wanted to know whether his report on the 2016 election totally exonerated Trump on obstruction of justice, as the president has claimed.
“Correct,” Mueller responded. “It is not what the report said.”

It’s summertime, which means it’s time to get outdoors for most of the country while the weather is nice. It’s also a time when reruns predominate on television, as the wise networks know that people are outdoors and distracted.
So it is with President Donald Trump’s Twitter communications. Today, he’s at Trump National Golf Club, presumably to hit the links and enjoy some me-time. That made for a light tweeting schedule in the early going, with the Commander-in-Tweet opting to retweet Judicial Watch for most of his morning commentary.
However, he did find time for a few original posts, using them to attack Andy McCabe (“a major sleazebag”) and the Mueller investigation’s controversial deletion of texts between former FBI agent Peter Strzok and his lover, Lisa Page, who talked of an “insurance policy” in case Trump was elected (he was).

Conservative playwright Phelim McAleer has secured a Washington D.C. venue for FBI Lovebirds: UnderCovers, the planned, and already controversial, dramatized staged reading of the anti-Trump text messages of former FBI agent Peter Strzok and former FBI lawyer Lisa Page.
The play, starring Dean Cain and Kristy Swanson in the title roles, will be performed June 13 in the amphitheater at the Ronald Reagan Building and International Trade Center, just a few blocks from the White House, according to McAleer.
FBI Lovebirds – the title, of course, references the relationship noted bluntly and often by President Donald Trump – was originally set for the same night at D.C.’s Mead Theatre, but was canceled by the theatre after Swanson and others retweeted what the actress described as a death threat made by a Twitter user against the cast and audience.

The Washington D.C. theater originally set to host a one-night-only performance of Phelim McAleer’s FBI Lovebirds: Undercovers, starring Dean Cain and Kristy Swanson, has canceled the production due to “threats of violence.”
McAleer, in a statement, condemned the cancellation at the Mead Theatre as censorship and pledged “that the show will go on despite the left’s attempts to sabotage it by forcing the venue’s withdrawal so close to the event date.”
“We will get a venue,” said McAleer. “The staged reading will go ahead. It will be filmed and released online and everyone will get to see the truth about how the upper echelons of the FBI tried to subvert democracy. This censorship will not succeed.”

Another day, another Trump crony hitting the airwaves to confuse the electorate with falsehoods and/or out-and-out lies. On Sunday, it was Rep. Liz Cheney’s (R-wy) turn to twist facts in defense of the president.
Cheney, in an interview on ABC’s This Week, took a question from host Martha Raddatz about the president adding to the discord in today’s politics while tweeting the fake Nancy Pelosi video. Cheney ignored the question, and instead decided to litigate the former FBI official Peter Strzok and attorney Lisa Page saga again.

A day after pro-Trump actors Kristy Swanson and Dean Cain retweeted what Swanson described as a “death threat” over their involvement in writer-producer Phelim McAleer’s planned performance piece FBI Lovebirds: UnderCovers, McAleer is using the tweets for fundraising.
Calling theater “the most leftist of all the arts,” McAleer writes in his fundraising pitch today: “It is shocking! They claim to love the arts and the Hollywood left is always giving awards congratulating themselves about how brave they are, but no one from the left or Hollywood has condemned this death threat to artists and their audience – just for telling the truth.”
The contretemps started Wednesday with news that Cain and Swanson will portray FBI agents Peter Strzok and Lisa Page in a one-night-only crowdsource-funded stage reading of the real-life duo’s now-infamous anti-Trump text messages. The reading, set for June 13 at the Mead Theatre in Washington, D.C., will...

Dean Cain and Kristy Swanson are set to play the real-life FBI agents whose amorous and perceived anti-Trump texts were made public got one of them fired from the Mueller investigation in a new stage play by Gosnell writer-producer Phelim McAleer. FBI Lovebirds: UnderCovers will get a staged reading in Washington, D.C., next month that will be filmed and put on YouTube.
Cain plays Peter Strzok, who was having an extramarital affair with fellow Bureau staffer Lisa Paige (Swanson). Their text messages make up the play’s narrative. In announcing the project, McAleer said, “It is a 100 percent verbatim script constructed out of the secret texts from Peter Strzok and Lisa Page (aka the FBI Lovebirds) and I have included their closed-door testimony to the congressional committee that was investigating them.”
The reading will be staged June 13 at the Mead Theatre. McAleer is crowdsourcing the funding.

Fox News host Jeanine Pirro said on her Saturday evening show that viewers should “grab their popcorn,” as the anti-Trump conspiracy within the government is about to receive some backlash.
“They’re not going quietly into the night, ’twill be a joy to watch,” Pirro said in her opening segment of Justice With Judge Jeanine. “Grab your popcorn, Junior Mints or whatever makes you happy. The real show is about to begin. This will be true reality TV. No scripts, no rehearsals, just a gang of criminals pointing fingers at each other to save their own hides. A version of true crime and the reality show Survivor. The deep state exposed.”
Pirro claimed that nearly a dozen former and current FBI officials will hear a knock on the door soon, including former FBI Deputy Director Andrew McCabe, former FBI agent Peter Strzok and girlfriend Lisa Page, attorney James Baker, John Brennan,...

President Donald Trump continued his retweet rampage of the weekend today, but found time to warn that the witch hunt has now shifted to finding the witches on the other side of the aisle.
The Commander-in-Tweet was pointed in his remarks, noting that he had an Attorney General willing to go after the truth behind the Mueller investigation’s origins. He also took a few digs at China, which is under pressure to conclude a new trade agreement and get its import tariffs lifted.
The tweetstorm so far:

Chuck Schumer is 0-7 in recruiting Senate challengers!https://t.co/XQqCfydEqg
— Ronna McDaniel (@GOPChairwoman) May 11, 2019
Republicans and @realDonaldTrump are delivering for Americans:
*6M new jobs
*Unemployment at 3.6%, the lowest since 1969.
Meanwhile, Democrats are fantasizing over baseless impeachment, government-run health care, and the socialist Green New Deal.

Former FBI director James Comey didn’t pack the same ratings punch in his repeat town-hall visit to CNN for a town hall on Thursday night.
An average of 1.6 million viewers watched Comey tell Anderson Cooper that Attorney General William Barr has wrecked his reputation with his misleading recaps of the Mueller report, that Deputy Ag Rod Rosenstein is not a person of strong character and FBI-ers Peter Strzok and Lisa Page damaged the bureau.
Of that 1.6 million, 326K viewers fell into the key 25-54 news demographic.

President Trump called into Hannity on Wednesday night for his first interview since Special Counsel Robert Mueller filed his final report to the Justice Department. It’s probably inaccurate to refer to this segment as an “interview.” The call, which lasted nearly 45 minutes, consisted mostly of Trump aimlessly cycling through issues with little intervention or pushback from the Fox News host, someone he counts as a friend and informal adviser.
The president has claimed, falsely, that he has been totally exonerated from any wrongdoing in the wake of the Mueller Report.

Continuing his recent media jihad on Twitter, President Donald Trump today attacked NBC and its comedy program Saturday Night Live as a “Democrat spin machine” in his morning online broadsides, and issued a call for a court test of the limits of free speech.
The tweet followed SNL‘s Christmas episode last night, which opened with It’s a Wonderful Trump, an It’s a Wonderful Life spoof imagining an America in which Trump was never president and where everyone is happier.
“A Real scandal is the one-sided coverage, hour by hour, of networks like NBC & Democrat spin machines like Saturday Night Live. It is all nothing less than unfair news coverage and Dem commercials. Should be tested in courts, can’t be legal? Only defame & belittle! Collusion?”

President Trump awoke Friday morning once again displeased with the state of Special Counsel Mueller’s investigation into his campaign’s relationship with Russia.
