If there's any male character in Dragon Ballwho should always strive to look his best, it's Vegeta. After all, he is the Prince of all Saiyans, the trophy husband of the richest woman on Earth, and one of the most prideful characters in any anime. He has the wealth and resources to dress however he'd like, and can make both his civilian clothes and his combat gear equally fashionable.
As one of the Dragon Ball's main characters, Vegeta has had the chance to display his sense of style, and unlock more forms than nearly anyone else. Several of his forms, like Super Saiyan 3 and Super Saiyan 4, drastically change his appearance, sometimes for the better, sometimes for the worse. Vegeta also has several outfits that clearly pair better with some of his transformations than others.

The expansive world of the Dragon Ball franchise does come with some confusion within the fandom. The latest addition to the series, Dragon Ball Daima, has become the subject of it. Fans aren’t sure if it’s canon, although it is a continuation of the Majii Buu Saga of Dragon Ball Z.

From the art style to the completely new realm Goku and friends have entered, Dragon Ball Daima stands out in the franchise. New villains were introduced and the characters we love are much smaller. It’s both cute and funny while maintaining the same stakes as any other Dragon Ball series.
Now that Daima has come to a conclusion with 20 episodes on February 28, 2025, fans are still itching to find out if the series is connected to the overall franchise. The updated appearance of Goku’s Super Saiyan 4 doesn’t make it easier.

Who would win in a battle between the strongest versions of Majin Buu: Kid Buu or Super Buu? A famed animator and character designer for the Dragon Ball anime franchise has chimed in on the question.
Katsuyoshi Nakatsuru, a key animator and character designer on numerous Dragon Ball projects such as Dragon Ball Z and Dragon Ball Daima, was interviewed by @/SofianLeGEEK during his appearance at Made in Asia Spring 2025, which took place in Brussels, Belgium, from March 7 to 9, 2025. The interview was translated by social media user @/Venixys on X (formerly Twitter). Nakatsuru was asked about various details of past and present Dragon Ball anime series, such as how Daima and Super connect and his thoughts on the late Akira Toriyama’s softer take on Bardock. Among the provocative questions, Nakatsuru was given lighthearted queries about fan-favorite hypothetical matchups, one of which involved the two most popular forms of Majin Buu.

Dragon Ball Daima may have been an enjoyable watch for many, but it left too many questions unanswered for me. When an installment is completed, it needs to tie up all the loose ends and be conclusively done.
Kid Goku in a still from Daima | Credit: Toei Animation
While the animation was fluid, exceptionally vibrant, and attractive, with action sequences that were exciting, the story itself felt incomplete and lacking for me. Certain plot points were barely explored, leaving room for a second season, but only if the plotholes are going to be addressed.
Daima left too many unanswered questions
We need to remember that Daima is canon and occurs before Dragon Ball Super, this means that anything that is revealed in Daima should already have been common knowledge in Super. That is why the Super Saiyan forms of Goku and Vegeta are such difficult reveals to reconcile.

Between giving Cell a Senzu Bean and letting Dr. Gero build Androids 16, 17, 18 & 19 over the course of three years, Goku makes a lot of bad decisions in Dragon Ball Z's Cell Saga. That said, Goku's "bad decisions" aren't nearly as dumb as some fans like to suggest. If you want to make Goku sparing Gero a matter of intelligence and not a moral issue, Future Trunks’ very existence is proof Goku is doing the smart thing by letting Gero finish his Androids. There's just no telling how the future would change if Goku provoked Dr. Gero before May 12, Age 767.
There's also the simple fact that Future Trunks asks Goku not to do anything that could potentially make him fade out of existence, ala Marty McFly from Back to the Future. His exact words are, "Please.... promise you'll this part a complete secret? If they find out and it bother them.

When Dragon Ball Daima was announced, the fandom was excited, as the series was the last project that Akira Toriyama was working on before he tragically passed away. However, the fans have vehemently hated the series, following its snail-paced plot and unwanted characters that merely overcrowded the scenes.
Goku as SSJ4. Credits: Toei Animation
To divide the ardent fans even more, the series finally bridged the gap with Dragon Ball Gt, making SSJ4 canon. What flabbergasted them to their core was Vegeta finally receiving his Super Saiyan 3 form. These scenes are indeed memorable and became key highlights of the show.
However, these very scenes overshadowed one key detail that holds the door open for a fusion that keeps the options limitless.
Dragon Ball Daima opened the door for the most electrifying fusion
It comes as no surprise that fusion has always played a prominent role in turning the tide in a battle.

Dragon Ball characters have made tremendous strides since the series’ debut and it’s nothing short of incredible when the current average power level is compared to standard strength from the original Dragon Ball. Heroes and villains grow progressively more powerful in Dragon Ball, which introduces some understandable “power creep” as new baselines of strength are established. Individuals like Goku and Vegeta begin at intimidating power levels and proceed to access godly strength that puts them in a league of their own.
However, there are plenty of other ancillary underdogs who have casually gained Earth-ending power simply by being part of the Z-Fighters and getting exposed to Dragon Ball’s exaggerated levels of strength. Saiyan Saga era Vegeta was more than capable of naturally destroying an entire planet and there are plenty of once-weak individuals who have tapped into comparable or superior strength.

Akira Toriyama created a true masterwork of modern fiction under the humble guise of a martial arts-themed shonen manga series called Dragon Ball. The story of Son Goku and his friends’ journey through the world in search of the mythical Dragon Balls is a simple one on the surface, but it contains multitudes. Each character in Dragon Ball is a living-breathing individual with genuine depth who lives in a fantasy world rich with plenty of lore for readers to get lost in. The Dragon Ball universe is an astounding achievement as a whole, but one particular character stands out among the rest as Toriyama’s clearest stroke of genius: the Prince of all Saiyans, Vegeta.
Prince Vegeta was born into royalty on the home planet of the alien race known as the Saiyans. He was considered an elite warrior at birth, born with a power level that surpassed all his peers.

Anime adaptations ino live-action films are not a new thing, more often than not, live-action films get mixed reviews. The fantastical and the magical cannot be accurately portrayed, not to mention the physiques, fight scenes, pacing issues, and more. But a good example would be Netflix’s One Piece Live Action.

Throughout the five main Dragon Ballanime, there have been countless battles. These include fights to the death, tournament matches, and grandiose clashes to determine the fate of the universe.Dragon Ball's fights aren't all created equal, though, and while some are lackluster, others rank among the best fights in shonen anime.
Thanks to its stunning animation, Dragon Ball Daima features fights worthy of being honored alongside the best Dbz and Dragon Ball Super had to offer. Across the board, the determining factors of a fight's quality are how well they tell their story, their animation, their direction and choreography, and the "hype" moments they feature. Most of Dragon Ball's greatest fights center around Goku, but Vegeta, Piccolo, Krillin, Frieza, and Android 17 are also recurring fighters in the franchise's most exciting brawls.

In Dragon Ball, there’s only one true main character: Son Goku. Some characters, like Vegeta and Piccolo, have had stints where they played a brief lead role or had an impressive showing against the villains. But in the end, it’s always up to Goku to save the day. It’s these secondary characters’ job to do the hard work of making Goku’s final battle feel consequential, and that’s what makes them jobbers.
Jobbers are characters whose entire purpose in a fight is to lose to the main villain or protagonist. This helps make both the major villain and the hero look super strong, which was these secondary characters’ job all along. The absolute worst jobbers in Dragon Ball are those who are continually used to play that jobbing role, rarely making any headway of their own in a major conflict. As thankless as the work of a jobber might seem,...

The Dragon Ball series has left a legacy and attracted fans all across the world with its intriguing concept. The Japanese animation series was not always depicted in the way that they wanted. During the dub, there were a few changes made to reduce the impact of the gags, which Toriyama is known for.

Many actions were taken to reduce Dragon Ball to an ‘appropriate’ level. For instance, Dragon Ball Z saw heavy censorship during its early American run, a lot of scenes were cut, the music was changed, and the impact of many events was not conveyed properly.
Of these, there was one episode was deemed too controversial and dark to air. Unlike other episodes in which cuts and changes had to be made, the episode “Plight of the Children” was completely excluded from being aired.

Dragon Ball has been so many different things, and gone on for so long, that every fan of the definitive Shonen anime franchise has their own idea of what the series is is at its core. To those who've never seen Dragon Ball, it would seem to just be about muscled men and aliens constantly transforming so they can punch each other harder. What's sad is, looking at what Dragon Ball has become, they aren't entirely wrong.
Transformations are one of the most popular parts of Dragon Ball, but they also changed the anime for the worse. At its best, the series has told powerful, emotional, and gripping stories filled with meaning and heart. Akira Toriyama’s Dragon Ballhas covered a tremendous amount of ground throughout its four decades of entertaining storytelling. It’s remarkable to look at where modern Dragon Ball is today in comparison to the extremely humble origins of the original Dragon Ball. Change is necessary in order for a series like Dragon Ball to stay relevant and many of the later additions in Dragon Ball Z and Dragon Ball Super have been worthwhile. Dragon Ball continues to introduce completely new characters and expand upon its growing universe.
Dragon Ball is also a series that loves to indulge in fan service and nostalgia whenever it’s possible. This has led to modern Dragon Ball being filled with old villains who return with a new color-coded form. There’s plenty of value in new and powerful villains, but the return of old enemies has the potential to connect with even greater impact.

Throughout Dragon Ball, Goku has faced some of the strongest villains in anime history. From Frieza’s power to Majin Buu’s purely destructive might, there have been many major antagonists who have forced Goku to push beyond his limits.

When Dragon Ball Super introduced Orange Piccolo, it was great to see him back in action. Many Dragon Ballfans fell in love with the series’ anime adaptation, which accurately adapt Akira Toriyama’s long-running manga, but this doesn’t mean that they tell identical stories. Dragon Ball’s anime – like many lengthy shonen adaptations – had to occasionally feature filler episodes so the corresponding manga had more time to tell its story.
Filler can come in the form of random episodes that pull from the original source material, padding the story out to buy Toriyama more time. Filler can also come in the form of entire sagas. It’s always interesting to take stock of these non-canon filler arc and determine how well they connect – and influence – Dragon Ball’s grander canon.

Dragon Ball characters who start out as villains have a habit of not staying that way. Several arcs of the original anime, and every single arc of Dragon Ball Z, feature at least one bad guy who later becomes a friend to Goku. Dragon Ball Super has continued this trend with characters like Broly and Gamma 1, but it's walked a dangerously fine line with Frieza.
Frieza is Dragon Ball's greatest villain, and putting him in any other role takes away from what makes him special. Dragon Ballis beloved for many reasons, but it’s the anime’s heightened and unbelievable fight sequences that truly make it something special. Dragon Ball’s eclectic cast of characters contributes to some unforgettable battles. Each fighter serves a distinct purpose. Goku is involved in more battles than anyone else, and he’s responsible for some of Dragon Ball’s greatest moments and fiercest fights.
Goku’s fights against King Piccolo, Vegeta, Frieza, and Majin Buu are absolutely iconic, and the world wouldn’t have survived without Goku’s help. That being said, Goku also gets roped into plenty of battles that aren’t worth his time or fizzle out with disappointing results. Dragon Ball needs balance between its battles, and they can’t all be apocalyptic conflicts, but these are Goku’s most lackluster fights.

Dragon Ball Daima continues to surprise and delight fans, with each new episode taking the story in unexpected directions. The latest episode, "Gomah," is no exception, featuring several surprising twists that have left fans desperate to learn what happens next. However, one of the episode's early scenes featured a surprising ultimatum that reopens one of Dragon Ball's longest-running and most confusing debates, one concerning the exact nature of the magical Dragon Balls.
Dragon Ball Daima's 17th episode picks up where the 16th episode left off, with Dr. Arinsu and her minions, Majin Kuu and Majin Duu, confronting Goku and his friends. Once Goku realizes Arinsu has the third and final Demon Realm Dragon Ball, a tense standoff ensues. Shin tries to break the deadlock by revealing himself, much to the surprise of Dr. Arinsu, his sister.

Using the power of the Evil Third Eye, Gomah has become one of the strongest characters in all of Dragon Ball. In Dragon Ball Daima Episode 17, "Gomah," the Supreme Demon King fights Goku, Vegeta, Piccolo, Nahare, Glorio, Tamagami 1, and the Majin Brothers all at once, and wins. With Gomah about to fight and, likely defeat, Super Saiyan 3 Goku, it seems like the only fighter in Dbz who would stand a chance against him is Vegito.
Third Eye Gomah can defeat nearly every character in Dragon Ball Z, but Dragon Ball Super is filled with much tougher competition. Even if it might be a struggle for him, there are still many heroes, villains, and Tournament of Power participants that he could defeat. Gomah isn't just a bruiser, but a sorcerer, and this would give him an edge over even some of Super's toughest warriors.

Dragon Ball is infamous for stretching out fights. The most iconic of these drawn-out battles is, of course, the legendary showdown between Goku and Frieza. The Dragon Ball Z fight is over twenty episodes long, but in real-time was only about five minutes. Along with many other fights, Goku vs. Frieza is a perfect example of how Dbz's team tried to pad the episodes, whether it was with excruciatingly long power-ups or long monologues that go nowhere.
That said, there were rare times when a fight wasn't dragged out. Every so often, a battle actually gets to the point, whether it be to move on to the next best thing quicker or to showcase a fighter’s dominance. Those moments when a fight ends in quick succession are a breath of fresh air, but with so few of these quick conclusions, which ones stand out as the shortest?

While it is often hailed for its supreme animation, Dragon Ball Daima has its setbacks as well. The series is often criticized for being carried solely by animation. And while this seems exaggerated, it might just be the case.
In the last few episodes, many fans pointed out the fudged-up nature of the plot. This ties in well with the recent episode that had most fans foaming at the mouth for many reasons.

In particular, this has to do with the series’ convoluted plot. With too many characters, it becomes a hodge-podge of inconsistencies. This is especially true for Shin’s character which deserved fleshing out in the series.
On the whole, it also points to misdirected character growth in the series. While spotlighting side characters is refreshing, the series may have dug its own grave by...

Dragon Ball Daima began with a bang, where it raised the bar for its viewers as it strayed away from the recent additions of the franchise. The show wanted to leave a lasting impression on its Og fans by feeding on their nostalgia and going back to its original roots.

It’s no secret that Dragon Ballis a series that’s absolutely packed with characters who are not just extremely powerful, but strong enough to destroy entire planets with a single attack. Goku is often front and center in terms of Dragon Ball’s strongest characters, but it’s not as if he just conveniently fell into this remarkable strength. Granted, Goku benefits from his Saiyan DNA, but so many of his gains in life result from rigorous training under accomplished martial artists.
Training has helped Goku learn some of his most powerful moves, while also teaching him valuable lessons about his body, energy, and balance. Characters can surpass their limits and reach unbelievable heights when they properly commit to training. Frieza has even emerged from a decade-long training session that resulted in his intimidating Black Frieza transformation. There are other powerful characters who would no doubt reach Goku’s...

There is no such thing as a perfect Dragon Ballarc. Outstanding as the Saiyan and 22nd World Martial Arts Tournament Sagas may be, they still have flaws. The Cell Saga isn't the most flawed arc between the original anime and Dbz, but it has the worst balance between its strengths and weaknesses. Many Dragon Ball Z fans cite the Cell Saga as their favorite arc of the anime, but it's easily the shonen series' weakest link.
Its plot is a mess, its fights largely aren't up to par, the power-ups the characters undergo are constant and meaningless, and its villain is the anime's most bland, to name only a few of its critical issues. While many of the characters introduced in it are iconic, its time-travel-based story is intriguing, and it's filled with memorable moments. This, unfortunately, isn't enough to save it from being inferior to the Saiyan, Frieza, and Buu Sagas.

Dragon Ball DAIMAEpisode 17 was an action-packed battle between the Dragon Team, the Majin Brothers, and The Supreme Demon King Gomah, whose Third Eye-powered body is far too much for our heroes. Evil Third Eye Gomah's control of the environment, immense power, and near invulnerability make him a massive threat to the heroes. It doesn't help that the main cast are fighting with decreased power levels due to their diminutive stature.
While certainly strong, Goku, Vegeta, and Piccolo still can't fully control their powers thanks to their child-like bodies. But this wouldn't be true for one Z-Fighter member: Son Gohan. During the Majin Buu Saga, Gohan unleashed his Ultimate form, bringing out all his latent power without needing to transform. Even as a kid, Gohan should still be just as powerful as he was at the end of Dragon Ball Z. Gohan being so powerful would obviously have made the entire series pointless,...

Dabura has long been seen by Dragon Ballfans as a prime example of wasted potential. Despite having a unique design, a power level on par with Perfect Cell, and a potentially interesting backstory as the Supreme King of the Demon Realm, he's swiftly killed-off during the Buu Saga to help establish the eponymous Majin as a threat. Dragon Ball Daima Episode 17 has revealed that, had things gone just a little differently, Dabura could have been a much greater threat to the Z-Warriors than Buu.
With the power of the Evil Third Eye, Dabura would have been the strongest unfused character in Dragon Ball Z. One of the most exciting things about Dragon Ballis that as strong as Goku and the rest of the series’ characters become, there’s always someone stronger out there. Dragon Ball Daima is set between Dragon Ball Z and Dragon Ball Super’s events. This means current techniques or form like Ultra Instinct and Orange Piccolo aren’t possible. All the same, there have been some promising developments that push the heroes’ strength far beyond what was seen during Dragon Ball Zs’ endgame. A powerful opponent is often a great motivator and a successful way to push characters past their limits.
Dragon Ball Daima hasn’t been lacking in villains, but it seems to have finally introduced its true antagonist after Gomah acquires the Evil Third Eye. Evil Third Eye Gomah transforms from puny to extremely powerful. He effortlessly takes on the collective efforts of Goku, Vegeta, Piccolo, Majin Duu,...

Dragon BallDAIMA has been far from perfect, but the anime's biggest issues like pacing and focusing too much on Goku aren't exactly exclusive to Daima. Now that Dragon Ball Daima has entered the anime's endgame, fans are understandably expecting the storytelling to be tight and the action to be intense.

There are many reasons that Akira Toriyama’s Dragon Ballhas endured for four decades and continues to strongly resonate with audiences of all ages. Dragon Ball embraces classic tropes that fans expect from the franchise, with epic transformations and creative power-ups being popular narrative devices. Dragon Ball’s transformations are typically a great source of pride for its characters. They can be the deciding factor in whether someone wins or loses in battle, while they also establish new milestones for other characters to aspire towards.
Transformations and power-ups are an easy way to raise the stakes and create a greater source of dramatic tension. However, this doesn’t always mean that they’re justified or even earned. Dragon Ball is occasionally guilty of indulging in flashy new forms that come out of nowhere or leave audiences feeling cheated.

Dragon Ball DAIMAhas been a perfect swan song to Akira Toriyama’s totemic career. Dragon Ball anime have a tendency to run for hundreds of episodes and last several years. Up until this point, Dragon Ball Gt was the shortest anime by far, at only 64 episodes. Dragon Ball Daima seems to have gone with a quality over quantity approach, since the new series will allegedly conclude after only 20 episodes.
Daima only has a few episodes left, which makes it likely several ideas and storylines will not receive proper closure. Dragon Ball Daima’s pacing hasn’t been perfect, but the anime has successfully covered a lot of ground and explored compelling territory with many characters. That said, fans would be remiss if certain storylines were just left hanging like it's looking like will happen.

There are many different reasons to celebrate Dragon Ball, but it’s hard to not get caught up in the powerful spectacles that amplify most of the heroes’ battles. Dragon Ball reinforces the importance of training and good values, but there are plenty of circumstances where a totemic attack is enough to eliminate an enemy. Ideally, these powerful techniques become permanent parts of the characters’ battle strategies. It’s hard to picture Goku not turning to his Kamehameha in battle or Vegeta failing to fire off a Final Flash.
These popular attacks help characters – and Dragon Ball as a whole – establish their identities. That being said, there are still instances where heroes turn to incredible powers, only for them to never appear again and fade away into obscurity. Akira Toriyama’s Dragon Ball continues to evolve in rewarding ways with a fandom that is usually pretty on board with its creative decisions, all of which makes Dragon Ball Gt’s polarizing reception such a unique anomaly. Dragon Ball Gt,the anime-only sequel to Dragon Ball Z, picks up five years after Dragon Ball Z’s ten-year time-skip. Dragon Ball Gt initially attempts to recreate the magic of the original Dragon Ball by concocting a scenario in which Goku is turned back into a child and needs to go on a grandiose Dragon Ball hunt.
Dragon Ball Gt has recently faced reappraisal, especially now that some of its ideas have made their way into Dragon Ball Daima, but it’s still the franchise’s outlier. The Dragon Ball anime spin-offgradually finds a successful rhythm that works for it, but there’s a radically variant quality between its handful of story sagas.

Dragon Ball Daima has captivated fans with its exploration of the Demon Realm, thereby adding new layers to Akira Toriyama’s universe. This also adds a lot of scope for exploration into the past chapters of the Dragon Ball franchise. While the anime delivers thrilling battles and fresh lore, it has also introduced cryptic mysteries in order to puzzle the viewers.

Among the many mysteries that this new franchise introduces, the most cryptic yet visible is most probably the recurring appearance of red symbols in the title cards of each episode.
The fans always knew it was indicative of some secret and recently, Akio Iyoku, the show’s executive producer, confirmed that these symbols are more than decorative. It means that the symbols are hinting at a deeper connection that may tie back to the Namekians. This revelation has sparked intense speculation among the fan community.

By the beginning of Dragon Ball Super, Dragon Ball had amassed a gargantuan number of characters. With the anime greatly expanding the franchise's multiverse, it also introduces more new characters than any prior series. Yet, even with how packed things are, the series only has two main characters: Goku and Vegeta.
With Dragon Ball Super focusing so heavily on Goku and Vegeta, the rest of the cast are forced to fight for screentime. Apart from the Universe Survival Saga and various filler episodes, most portions of the series hardly give the supporting cast anything to do. This even applies to the most prominent of all the new characters introduced in Super, Beerus and Whis.

Of all the Dragon Ball anime, Gt has the tightest focus. It almost never removes Goku from the spotlight, and only a handful of characters are given the chance to ever truly share it with him. What's more, the characters who do primarily accompany anime's most iconic hero on his adventures aren't the ones fans would typically expect.
Dragon Ball Gt took a much more interesting approach with its cast than the canon sequel to Dbz, Dragon Ball Super. For its first third, it follows Goku, Pan, Trunks, and Giru, and it doesn't go out of its way to feature the rest of the cast. Even when later parts of the series highlight other characters, they still don't get to appear nearly as often as that core quartet did early on.

Despite Dragon Ball and Dragon Ball Z being adapted from the same manga, there is a drastic shift regarding which characters receive the most focus within the different series. While Goku remains as prominent as ever, many former main characters find themselves shoved to the side in favor of new additions to the cast. Some of Goku's oldest friends, like Master Roshi, Oolong, and Paur, were practically excised from the story entirely, apart from background appearances.
The reason so many classic characters became less prominent is because Gohan, Piccolo, and Vegeta made themselves franchise staples in Dragon Ball Z. These three took over the supporting cast, and only a few older members were capable of keeping up with them. While this is self-evident, it can also be seen in the number of episodes they appeared in compared to their more retro counterparts.

Of all the iconic villains of the Dragon Ball franchise, Vegeta stands out for his amazing character arc in the series. While he began as one of the most ruthless and irredeemable characters, he slowly became one of Earth’s bravest defenders. The process was slow, with many fans believing that the prince could one day return to his previous role as Goku’s greatest enemy, something that never occurred.
Yet, as revealed in an interview with the late Akira Toriyama in 1991, the original plan for Vegeta’s character was to keep him as a villainous figure. The creator of the manga did not wish to turn the prince into a heroic member of the Z Fighters, claiming that doing so would make his arc resemble Piccolo’s too much.

The Dragon Ball universe has many species and worlds interacting with one another. Among all the different species, the Namekians have maintained an important presence throughout the series. Interestingly, there’s a connection between the Namekians and Egyptian mythology, which was pointed out by an X user.

Ever since Goku first became a Great Ape at the end of the Pilaf Saga, transformations have been a part of Dragon Ball. They became far more prominent in Dbz and beyond, with Goku's initial transformation into a Super Saiyan still being the series' most iconic moment. Unfortunately, most subsequent transformations have failed to match the impact of the trend-setter.

While they became insufficient to measure the power of Dbz's God-like fighters by about the half-way-point of the series, power levels still remain the most objective measurement of power in Dbz.
Only a few power levels have been given in the series and official companion media, so many of the most powerful characters don’t have representation in terms of power level. For example, characters like Cell, SSJ2 Gohan and Majin Buu never received canonical power level readings, despite being some of the strongest fighters in the series. Even though not every character is represented with a power level, looking at the highest canonical power levels given in the series can...
