For over a century, LGBTQ+ performers have made audiences laugh while pushing boundaries and advancing social progress. Outstanding: A Comedy Revolution shines a light on this important history, telling the story of pioneers who paved the way for openly queer comedians today.
The documentary follows a momentous 2022 reunion show bringing together icons like Wanda Sykes, Margaret Cho, and Lily Tomlin with newcomers at the famed Greek Theatre in LA. Through interviews and clips, we learn what it took for these talented individuals to find success despite facing adversity. While acceptance has grown, prejudice has caused many to maintain “double lives” or stay closeted for fear of backlash.
Backdrops of political unrest, like the Lavender Scare targeting gays after WWII or the AIDS crisis, reverberate as comedians recall turbulent eras. Even icons faced career threats if they revealed their true selves. The documentary gives voice to valiant veterans who persevered, honoring...

Set in the wetlands of Georgia, Fairfax Pictures’ newest cinematic collaboration with Regal Cinemas for Black History Month is The Geechee Witch: A Boo Hag Story. The horror movie dives into the folklore of the Gullah people, an African American ethnic group who predominantly live in the lower regions of the US. One of the more fantastical aspects of this heritage is the mythical creature known as the Boo Hag, which sucks the breath or soul out of its unknowing victim. While the person is put into a deep, trance-like sleep filled with haunting dreams, the witch — akin to a vampire of sorts — will gallivant around, mimicking the human and fooling others.
Here, the story revolves around a woman named Leah (Tryphena Wade) and her husband, Asa Robbins (actor Stephen Cofield), who move from their cozy and lavish life in New York City to Asa’s deceased mother’s home in the backwoods of Georgia.

My heart goes to all the other APDs, who worked on this project,” reiterating “I could not have done this without you.”
Set decorator Ernestine Hipper first thanked her parents, her sisters and “dear friends,” She continued: “When I started this, I was told Ernestine, don’t ever forget, you’re only as good as your team. So this is to all the hard-working people in Prague, and all the teams that helped me to get on this stage, the Academy, thank you so much.

RuPaul is best known as the host and creator of RuPaul's Drag Race, but the self-described "Queen of Drag" is more than America's biggest drag competition. Since the series debuted in 2009, RuPaul's Drag Race has expanded from a small presentation on Logo to an international franchise found in countries like Australia, Canada, France, Thailand, and the United Kingdom. While there have only been a handful of winners, hundreds of contestants featured on RuPaul's Drag Race have gone on to enjoy highly established careers, with some queens like Bob The Drag Queen and Laila McQueen known as close collaborators.
It's been fifteen years since RuPaul's Drag Race was first introduced to the world, and with a steady pattern of one season a year, RuPaul's Drag Race season 15 kicked off 2023 with sixteen new queens ready to be America's Next Drag Superstar. With Carson Kressley, Ross Matthews, and new judge Ts Madison along for the ride,...

When Tyler Perry wrote the screenplay for “A Jazzman’s Blues” in 1995, he imagined Diana Ross in the role of Hattie Mae, mother to a young man named Bayou (Joshua Boone) and an entrepreneurial woman who opens a juke joint in the 1940s South. When Perry finally made the movie — a passion project he held onto for 27 years, which is now streaming on Netflix — he turned to Amirah Vann to play the role.
Best known for powerhouse performances opposite Emmy-winner Viola Davis in “How to Get Away With Murder,” as well as major roles in “Queen Sugar” and “Underground”, Vann was “honored” to get the call from Perry — and even more so that he believed she possessed acting and singing chops comparable to Ross.
“The first time I remember him saying it, I was like, ‘Wait a minute?’” Vann tells Variety over the phone. “It just made me feel so honored.

Nothing is ever simple in Chucalissa.
Naturally, craziness reigned when The Pynk's reopening and Uncle Clifford's 40th birthday landed on the same night on P-Valley Season 2 Episode 2.
But even getting to that point was problematic for Clifford and company.
Holding the auditions mandated by Autumn was a great way to introduce the new characters for this season.
Roulette, brash and contentious, came off as a younger version of Mercedes, which is sure not to go over well with the Og dancer. But little else was revealed about her.
Whisper certainly was an intriguing addition. Beyond her talents on the pole, she also has a spooky quality, such as in the scene where she used an old brass pole to predict Roulette's future like a Magic 8-Ball.
As well synched as Whisper and Roulette were, they had to have performed together in the past. But again, that was left in the dark for now.
