Honestly, I can confidently say Ctrl is one of the best cyber thrillers out there right now. The experience of every character in the film perfectly shows the dark side of social media and technology and how even though we think these gadgets and platforms are making our lives better, they actually consume us, create addictions, and lead us toward self-destruction as we become so dependent on technology that we lose control of our lives. So, through the cast and characters, you’ll clearly see how this message comes across.

Honestly, the more I see Ananya Pandey’s performances, the more impressed I get with how each film, she seems to develop and grow, and in this film as Nella Awasthi, she did not disappoint. She perfectly captured the essence of today’s Gen Z girls, who are obsessed with sharing their private lives on social media and making everything public.

“Ctrl” is “Black Mirror” crossed with “Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind.” That is the obligatory single-line take, which would be paraded around as an opinion of the movie rather than what it actually is—a pitch. I suppose with regards to how deep or volatile an exploration could be regarding social media usage as well as the proliferation of the internet within one’s life, it depends on which aspects of that idea screenwriters Motwane and Avinash Sampath would like to focus all their creative energies upon.

That decision alone would also entail casting the protagonist—Anaya Panday, who has now carved out a niche for herself due to the characters modeled around her personality, with a few degrees removed from herself. It could be criticized, except Panday is genuinely good at it. In an interview while promoting the film, Motwane would remark how the idea of casting Panday...

I’ve watched my fair share of cyberhorror films and, for the most part, enjoyed them for their newness and zeal. Vikramaditya Motwane’s Ctrl is certainly an ambitious film. There’s no denying that it’s got something that urges you as a viewer to keep watching. Ctrl tells the story of Nella Awasthi and her boyfriend Joe, who’ve become famous thanks to their relationship being a tool for their income. The perfect life of this seemingly impeccable couple is shattered when Nella tries to surprise Joe for their 5th anniversary and instead finds him kissing another girl. Nella immediately shuts Joe out. However, wild things start happening when Nella installs a new app to erase his memory from her life forever.

After ranking as Prime Video India’s top show in the country since its September 6 launch, comedy-drama Call Me Bae has been renewed by the streamer for a second season.

Starring Ananya Panday, the Dharmatic Entertainment show has featured among the Top 10 trending titles on Prime Video in more than 50 countries, including the U.S., UK, Canada, Australia, U.A.E., Saudi Arabia, Malaysia, New Zealand and South Africa.

Prime Video added that Call Me Bae has been watched across 85 percent of India’s pin codes.

The series’ soundtrack has also found popularity, with the song “Vekh Sohneyaa” gaining over 10 million views on YouTube and coming in top on Shazam’s chart in Mumbai and Delhi.
