Netflix has revealed the release date and dropped a new trailer for the third season of The Diplomat, and things are getting even messier.
The new season arrives on Oct. 16, and, according to the preview, the political stakes have never been higher. Keri Russell returns as Ambassador Kate Wyler, who now finds herself deep in the fallout from last season’s chaos.
The new trailer The plot
The new season picks up right where Season 2 left off. Kate has accused Vice President Grace Penn (Allison Janney) of being behind a terrorist attack, admitted she wants the job for herself, and now President Rayburn (Michael McKean) is dead.
That twist leaves Penn unexpectedly stepping into the presidency. In the trailer, viewers get a glimpse of Penn being sworn in, while Kate confides to her husband, Hal (Rufus Sewell), “A terribly flawed woman is now president. And only we know just how flawed.

Netflix has set October 16 for the return of The Diplomat and released a new teaser that picks up directly after last season’s shock ending, with Keri Russell’s Kate Wyler navigating the upheaval that follows Grace Penn’s sudden elevation to the presidency. The streamer also confirmed Bradley Whitford has joined the cast as First Gentleman Todd Penn alongside Allison Janney, Rufus Sewell, David Gyasi, Ali Ahn and Ato Essandoh.
Early footage frames a Washington–London chess match in which loyalties and leverage shift by the hour. Series creator Debora Cahn says the new run “flips the chessboard,” calling it the “particular nightmare” of getting what Kate wants, only to discover its costs. Whitford, reuniting on screen with Janney, praised the writing and ensemble in remarks released with the teaser.
The third season will span eight episodes debuting the same day, with first-look images previewing confrontations in the White House and across the Atlantic.

Netflix continues to tease out the third season of its hit political drama The Diplomat, offering yet another video preview of the next installment as well as sharing the release date: Oct. 16.
The new teaser for the upcoming episodes, though light on dialogue and extended scenes, features Keri Russell’s Kate Wyler saying, “a terribly flawed woman is now the president, and only we know just how flawed.”
The warning reminds viewers that the series’ former vice president, Grace Penn (Allison Janney), who was on the verge of being elevated to president in the closing moments of season two after President Rayburn (Michael McKean) died, is behind the British warship attack that launched the series, something Kate and husband Hal (Rufus Sewell) learned during season two, with Grace explaining her rationale to Kate in a tense exchange in the season finale.

Amidst the swirl of political twists and turns on Netflix's The Diplomat, the Debora Cahn-created series is also ripe with emotional shockers. The romance between CIA station chief Eidra Park (Ali Ahn) and the U.S. deputy chief of mission Stuart Heyford (Ato Essandoh) crashed and burned, but ripples of feelings continue. And, of course, U.S. Diplomat Kate Wyler's (Keri Russell) relationship with her sly husband Hal (Rufus Sewell) is as complicated as any world power strife, so her very real attraction to the U.K. Foreign Secretary Austin Dennison (David Gyasi) — which Hal is very aware of — is just adding fuel to the fire.
That said, so far, Kate and Dennison have yet to take major romantic steps, and Gyasi feels the audience's pain, given he's the guy playing Dennison's longing and yearning even after the pair listens to their heads and not their hearts...

Ambassador Kate Wyler (Keri Russell) probably thought that things would get easier once she solved the mystery surrounding the bombing of a British aircraft carrier in the Persian Gulf.
In reality, she now only finds herself in a more precarious position. Netflix released a trailer on Thursday that gives a glimpse into the realities of Kate’s situation now that she’s accused Vice President Grace Penn (Allison Janney) of hatching a terrorist plot and admitted she’s after the VP’s job.
The President is dead, which may or may not be the fault of Kate’s husband Hal (Rufus Sewell), and Penn has just taken over as Commander in Chief. But, apparently, that hasn’t deterred Hal from trying to win Kate the vice presidency.
The Season 3 trailer also teases a complicated relationship between Kate and newcomer, First Gentleman Todd Penn (Bradley Whitford).

One of the elements of Netflix's The Diplomat that lends itself to being an addictive drama is how the show juggles huge political turmoil alongside relationship drama and often comedic complications for the core characters. Case in point, Stuart Heyford (Ato Essandoh), the deputy chief of mission of the U.S. embassy in London. Besides his duties being the right hand for U.S. ambassador Kate Wyler (Keri Russell), Stuart had a tumultuous second season.
After surviving the Season 1 finale explosion, he recovered enough to return to work and randomly met a woman (Adrienne Warren) with whom he hooked up, only to find out there was nothing random about it all. His ex-girlfriend Eidra (Ali Ahn), the CIA station chief, set it all up to ensure he was ready to come back to his job.

Casting director Julie Schubert might work so well with actors because she originally thought she wanted to be one, even going to college in New York to study the craft. “I quickly realized that I was absolutely terrible at it — like miserable — but I still wanted to work in the industry,” she reveals. She took a bunch of internships her senior year, one in casting, and found it to be the perfect fit. “I get to work with actors all the time, which I love. I get to play in new and interesting worlds with each new film or series I cast. And I never have to be seen! Win-win-win.”

The stakes have never been higher in creator and writer Debora Cahn’s The Diplomat. The second season of the Golden Globe Award–nominated drama opens moments after the first season’s climactic conclusion: Kate Wyler, and members of her staff, including her deputy chief of mission, Stuart Hayford (Ato Essandoh).
It’s only the latest crisis Kate must navigate: She’s developed a romantic connection with Foreign Secretary Austin Dennison (David Gyasi), while also unofficially auditioning for the role of vice president in a struggling administration back home and investigating an attack on a British aircraft carrier by an unknown perpetrator.

With its lush gardens and old-world charm, the Huntington Library in the Los Angeles suburb of San Marino provided a stately backdrop for a conversation on nuclear diplomacy and behind-the-scenes political intrigue, as Netflix hosted a special screening and panel for its Emmy-, Golden Globe-, and Screen Actors Guild-nominated political thriller The Diplomat. But despite the tranquil setting, even the cast remained somewhat shellshocked by the explosive Season 2 finale.
“I read the script and thought, ‘What is happening?’” Allison Janney recalled, describing how she discovered the finale’s jaw-dropping twist — President Rayburn (Michael McKean) drops dead mid-meeting after an altercation with Hal (Rufus Sewell), launching Janney’s character, Vice President Grace Penn, into the Oval Office and stunning the cast. “I don’t think she expected to become president of the United States.”

We don't have to wait too long to watch The Diplomat season 3 on Netflix! During its annual Upfronts presentation, Netflix announced The Diplomat season 3 will be released in the fall of 2025.
That's exactly when we thought the new season of The Diplomat starring Keri Russell and Rufus Sewell would premiere on Netflix. We still don't know the exact release date, but I'm guessing we'll see the new season around November or December.
In addition to the season 3 release window news, Netflix also announced The Diplomat season 4 is already in the works. The renewal was announced during the Upfronts presentation.

Netflix has renewed its hit series The Diplomat for a fourth season. The news was revealed at the streamer’s Upfronts presentation in New York City today, and before the show’s Season 3 premiere this fall.
From creator, showrunner, and executive producer Debora Cahn, The Diplomat is a high-stakes, contemporary political drama about the transcendence and torture of long-term relationships between countries and people. It centers on Kate Wyler (Keri Russell), the new U.S. Ambassador to the United Kingdom. She was supposed to go to Afghanistan. She’s great in a crisis zone. In a historic home … less so. War is brewing on one continent and boiling over on another. Kate will have to defuse international crises, forge strategic alliances in London, and adjust to her new place in the spotlight — all while trying to survive her marriage to fellow career diplomat and political star Hal Wyler (Rufus Sewell...

Netflix is cranking out new shows every single week. It's easy to miss something that you might love. While many Netflix shows benefit from word-of-mouth promotion, a lot of good Netflix shows slip through the cracks and don't get in front of the right viewers. Even as the biggest streaming service in the world, Netflix still has a problem informing its users about the original shows they might like.

The Diplomat is expected to return to Netflix in 2025 with a season 3 of the political thriller starring Keri Russell as the US ambassador to the UK, Kat Wyler, and Rufus Sewell as her husband, Hal. After the explosive ending of season 2, which revealed betrayal and possibly left many essential characters for dead, the series is prepared to bring an even more exciting third season.
The ending of season 2 revealed the shocking news that it wasn’t Iran or Russia that ordered the British aircraft blown up, but it was British prime minister Nicol Trowbridge, played by Rory Kinnear. It also seems that he is the one who ordered another explosion; this one aimed at killing Hal Wyler (Sewell), deputy chief of mission Stuart Hayford (Ato Essandoh), office clerk Ronnie (Jess Chanliau), and MP Merritt Grove (Simon Chandler).

Dr. Mitch Ripley (Luke Mitchell) has become one of the most familiar faces on Chicago Med. True, he's been through quite a bit in season 10, but the character's inherent decency and his desire to change has made him extremely easy to root for.
The actor who plays Ripley may be relatively new to the One Chicago universe, but that doesn't mean he's unfamiliar with it. In fact, Luke Mitchell came up with a deep cut choice when asked which of the previous Med characters he'd like to see return to the show.
Who played Dr. Isidore Latham on Chicago Med?
The actor told Cbr that he would push to bring Dr. Isidore Latham back to Gaffney Medical Center to spice things up. If the name doesn't immediately ring a bell, don't worry. Latham was never a central cast member, but rather a recurring presence during seasons 2-5.

Chicago Med star Luke Mitchell recently revealed how he'd like one of the show's former stars to return. The two previously worked together on a short-lived television series.
Speaking with Cbr, Mitchell spoke about Ato Essandoh, the actor who portrayed Dr. Isidore Latham as a series regular in Seasons 2-5 of NBC's hit medical drama from Dick Wolf. Essandoh returned in Season 6 as a guest star, but hasn't shared any scenes with Mitchell, who joined the cast in Season 9. "He's got a headshot on one of the sets -- a framed headshot of his character -- and I've taken a selfie in front of it and sent it to him," Mitchell said of Essandoh. "I love Ato. I'd love for him to come back, but I think the guy is just, he's too good of an actor. He's always working. He's booked out."

Mitch Ripley is surely self-destructing in Chicago Med Season 10, which is giving actor Luke Mitchell plenty to work with. Ripley is dealing with the death of his childhood friend Sully and everything that comes with it in the worst way -- and in Episode 15, he's going to face a whole other challenge. "Down in a Hole" puts Ripley into the field with Chicago Fire's Randy "Mouch" McHolland to save an endangered child, but how far will he go?
In an interview with Cbr, Mitchell previewed the upcoming episode and spoke about working with veteran One Chicago co-stars like Christian Stolte and Chicago Med's Oliver Platt. He also discussed Ripley's challenging Season 10 arc, and what part of it has been difficult for him as an actor. Plus, what has it been like for Mitchell to reunite with his Republic of Sarah co-star on Chicago Med?

For its upcoming third season, Netflix’s The Diplomat is reuniting two iconic characters from the classic drama The West Wing. Per Deadline, Oscar and multiple Emmy Award winner Allison Janney will be teaming up with her The West Wing co-star Bradley Whitford for Season 3 of the political thriller. The reunion will mark the first time the pair has worked together in nearly 20 years. Whitford, who can be seen in Hulu's The Handmaid's Tale, will be featured in a recurring role in the series.
The Diplomat has ties to The West Wing, as its creator and executive producer, Debora Cahn, worked as a producer on The West Wing. Whitford, who played White House Deputy Chief of Staff Josh Lyman on The West Wing, will play the First Gentleman to Janney’s President on The Diplomat. Janney, who won an Oscar for her role in 2017’s I, Tonya, played White House Press Secretary C.

2024 is over, and while it was a wasteland at the box office last year for television fans, it was one of the better years as we got many brilliant shows on the big and small scale. With incredible series like Masters of the Air starting the year, there was no way that the rest of the year could go bad, and that’s what happened because we got powerful and thrilling shows like Shōgun, Fallout, and 3 Body Problem. So, we compiled the list of the best returning and new shows on streaming, Cabel, and networks.

Fans are waiting for the release of James Gunn's Superman next year, and while there's still several months left to go, a new teaser trailer will be providing a small sneak peek. Ahead of the teaser's release on Thursday, details about Edi Gathegi's role as Mr. Terrific were shared by Gunn straight from the set.
During a set visit attended by Cbr and other outlets, Gunn spoke about the film's incarnation of Mr. Terrific. When asked how he decided which DC characters to incorporate in Superman, the filmmaker and DC Studios co-ceo admitted that it was as simple as bringing in some of the characters he really loves. Almost everyone who saw Andor wants more of the Star Wars series, and these 10 science fiction shows come closest to replicating its magic. Andor is, simply put, one of the best Star Wars shows ever made. From Tony Gilroy's incredible writing to the way it ties into Rogue One: A Star Wars Story and the rest of the Star Wars movies, Andor is nothing short of a masterpiece. It's understandable, then, that fans of the show would want more as soon as possible, though the series has been on hiatus since Andor season 1 ended in 2022.
Though the April 22, 2025, release date of Andor season 2 is rapidly approaching, fans of the show may want to watch something similar to bide time until its release. Luckily, there are already 10 science fiction shows that feel extremely similar to Andor, and all of them have something distinct to offer fans of the Star Wars series.

Let’s set a tableau illustrating a Grand Unified Theory of London-Based Spy Shows That Premiered This Fall/Winter.
In our image, the London station CIA team, led by the cast of The Agency, is working in the foreground, as Eidra Park, Ali Ahn’s CIA station chief from The Diplomat, is having a professionally irresponsible lovers’ quarrel with Ato Essandoh’s Stuart in the background.
Slightly down the Thames, at MI6 headquarters, Lashana Lynch’s Bianca is trying to track down the Jackal (Eddie Redmayne), a methodical assassin not unlike Michael Fassbender’s character from 2023’s The Killer, who himself is similar to Fassbender’s character from The Agency. The latter lives his own semi-monastic life in an apartment in Barbican, which means he’s almost literally across the street from MI5’s Slough House, the refuge of the bumbling, flatulent spooks of Slow Horses.
