Horror is filled with iconic masks, from Michael Myers and his vaguely humanoid contours to Peachfuzz and his unruly snarl. Some allow killers to hide their identities, attacking in secret while maintaining a relationship with their would-be victims. Others provide a persona of strength and terror that a would-be villain could not otherwise achieve. Though masks have been a genre staple since the dawn of film, few are as uniquely terrifying as the Hannya mask in Kaneto Shindô’s Onibaba. Set in 14th century Japan, this gorgeous film follows a fearful woman who dons a traditional mask only to find it slowly seeping into her skin.

Kichi’s Mother (Nobuko Otowa) is patiently waiting for her son to return from war. Left without a male provider, she lives with Kichi’s Wife (Jitsuko Yoshimura) in a hut surrounded by a large field of suzuki grass.

Featuring "Professionalism feat. Hannya" by hip-hop group Ali ( Jujutsu Kaisen Ed), hitman drama anime The Fable offers sick beats to go with beatdowns in its stylish opening movie. Ghostwire: Tokyo originally released in 2022 as a one-year timed exclusive for PlayStation 5 due to Microsoft's purchase of Bethesda, the game's publisher. With that year now up, Ghostwire: Tokyo has made its way to Xbox Series X/S consoles and PC through Game Pass. This transition also comes with the new "Spider's Thread" update that adds more content to the main game, as well as a whole new game mode. Given the mixed reception to the original release's core experience, this update is a welcome inclusion and makes it that much easier to recommend.

As stated in the original Screen Rant Ghostwire: Tokyo review, the strengths of this experience are in its visual & sound design, narrative, and creativity. As a quick intro to this world, players take control of Akito after a mysterious fog washed through Tokyo's Shibuya district that captured the spirits of its population and left aggressive Yokai spirits to prowl the streets.

Ghostwire: Tokyo’s Xbox Game Pass version for current generation consoles and PC is underway with a 2023 release date. Developer Tango Gameworks’ supernatural action-adventure game was first released in March 2022, for PS5 consoles and PC. The release on Microsoft’s subscription service will end the year-long console exclusivity deal with Sony. Now, Xbox Series X/S owners will be able to test out the game.

Aside from the addition to the Xbox Game Pass catalog, publisher Bethesda Softworks announced that Ghostwire: Tokyo will also receive a free new content update across all platforms. Despite the surprising acquisition of Bethesda by Xbox, this update will be available on the game’s original platforms, PS5 and PC, as well as the ones covered by Xbox Game Pass, be that a current-gen console or PC, too.

When Ghostwire: Tokyo Will Be Available...

At yesterday's PlayStation State of Play livestream, Tango Gameworks premiered the brand new launch trailer for Ghostwire: Tokyo!

Players who digitally pre-order the Deluxe Edition of Ghostwire: Tokyo from the PlayStation Store will gain early access to the game on March 22, 2022. They will also receive access to the Streetwear Outfit Pack, Shinobi Outfit, and Kunai Weapon.
