‘The Wheel of Time’ Canceled at Amazon’s Prime Video After Three Seasons
Image
The Wheel of Time has been canceled after three seasons at Amazon’s Prime Video streamer.

The series, from Sony Pictures Television and Amazon MGM Studios and based on Robert Jordan’s best-selling series of fantasy novels, aired its third-season finale on April 17.

At the time, showrunner Rafe Judkins, who adapted the series for television, addressed the show’s uncertain future in an interview with The Hollywood Reporter.

Judkins said he’d been asking Amazon, “What is the end game for the show? I really want to deliver this full series, so how do we best do that?”

He argued that part of why he and his creative team chose Amazon was because the streamer “felt like a place where they do want to invest in shows for the long term. There are not a lot of places doing that anymore. For Wheel of Time, it’s really important for...

‘The Wheel of Time’ Canceled After 3 Seasons at Prime Video
Image
“The Wheel of Time” has run out its run at Prime Video. The Rosamund Pike-led adaptation of the fantasy novel series by Robert Jordan and Brandon Sanderson will not return for Season 4 at the streaming platform, TheWrap has learned.

The news comes after Prime Video announced the renewal of its other big-budget drama series “The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power” for Season 3. Amid industry contraction, high-budget fantasy dramas seem prone for the chopping block across linear and streaming. “The Wheel of Time” is believed to have been too expensive to justify given its viewership performance.

“The Wheel Of Time” launched strong, becoming Prime Video’s most-watched series premiere of 2021 and one of the platform’s top debuts of all time. Season 3 saw its viewership slip, leaving Nielsen’s top 10 originals chart after three weeks, before making one last appearance after the launch of its finale.

‘The Wheel Of Time’ Canceled By Prime Video After 3 Seasons
Image
Exclusive: Prime Video will not be renewing The Wheel of Time for a fourth season. The decision, which comes more than a month after the Season 3 finale was released April 17, followed lengthy deliberations. As often is the case in the current economic environment, the reasons were financial as the series is liked creatively by the streamer’s executives.

The TV adaptation of the book series by Robert Jordan and Brandon Sanderson, co-produced by Sony Pictures TV and Amazon MGM Studios, is a high-end, pricey fantasy drama, which ushered in the genre on Prime Video, later joined by The Lord Of the Rings: The Rings Of Power.

Starring Rosamund Pike, The Wheel Of Time got off to a strong start in 2021 as Prime Video’s most watched series premiere of the year and one of the platform’s Top 5 series launches of all time.

‘The Wheel of Time’ Cast Can’t Keep it Together in New Season 3 Blooper Reel
Image
Just over one month after the finale, Prime Video has released the official blooper reel for The Wheel of Time Season 3. The reel is nearly three minutes long of pure fun and laughs for Wheel of Time fans, which comes at a good time. Despite the show going off the air more than a month ago in a finale that was exceptionally well-received, Prime Video has yet to renew The Wheel of Time for a fourth season. Fans launched a renewal campaign at the start of May that has yet to bear fruit, which came not long after showrunner Rafe Judkins teased a “very different” Season 4, if the team gets the chance to make it. Fans remain hopeful that Prime Video will make the renewal announcement sooner rather than later.

Starring in the lead role of Moraine Damodred in The Wheel of Time is Rosamund Pike, who is one of...

The Wheel of Time director tells us about filming mindbending visions in Rhuidean
Image
Last week, The Wheel of Time aired one of the most ambitious episodes in its entire run: "The Road to the Spear," where chosen one Rand al'Thor (Josha Stradowski) and his Aes Sedai mentor Moiraine (Rosamund Pike) journeyed into the sacred Aiel city of Rhuidean. This is a key part of Robert Jordan's book series, and it was equally important for the TV show. Over the course of the episode, Rand goes on a heart-wrenching vision quest where he experiences important events in the lives of his ancestors, laying bare the history of the Aiel. Meanwhile, Moiraine is subjected to the Wise One's trial of the Three Rings, which bombards her mind with glimpses of possible, often tragic, futures.

Each of those visions required new costuming and sets — or in the case of Stradowski, prosthetics to make him look like completely different people. Filming "The Road to the Spear...

Kevin Spacey in House of Cards (2013)
Kin Review: The Stars Align in This Riveting Irish Drama
Kevin Spacey in House of Cards (2013)
Every streaming service needs a breakout series.

Netflix had House of Cards and Orange Is the New Black, Hulu had The Handmaid's Tale, and Apple TV+ had Ted Lasso.

If the first six episodes are any indication, Kin should be the breakout series for AMC+, and it's all thanks to the superb writing, acting, and directing.

Coming from Peter McKenna (The Last Kingdom) and Ciaran Donnelly (Altered Carbon), Kin focuses on one of the biggest crime families in Dublin, the Kinsellas, and how they process the loss of one of their own.

The beauty of a series like Kin is that none of the characters are guaranteed safety. Instead, the culture of crime families at war ensures that a devastating turn of events could change everything on a dime.

Charlie Cox (Daredevil) plays Michael Kinsella, a man who gets out of prison after several years and is slowly pulled back into his old ways.

The Vikings season 4 episode 3 review: Mercy

Bear-wrestling and anachronistic tableware feature in the latest episode of Vikings season 4...

This review contains spoilers.

4.3 Mercy

This week's Vikings peaked in, if not a shared vision, at least what appeared to be simultaneous ones, as the figure of the dearly departed Aethelstan appeared to both Ragnar and Ecbert with very different messages.

For Ragnar, that message was summed up in a single word, "Mercy." And this communication might initially have seemed to us the clearer of the two: a plea from the Christian monk for his friend to grant clemency to the man who murdered him. Whether it is that Lothbrok is unable to forgive the boat-maker who deprived him of his English friend and therefore only shows compassion in the name of Helga or he knew Aethelstan well enough to know that that's actually who the monk sought forgiveness for in the first place is not entirely clear.

Vikings season 4 promises political intrigue, cultural clashes, fascinating characters and kickass battles. Welcome back!

This review contains spoilers.

4.1 A Good Treason

Vikings is back, and oh, what a joy!

Generally, before a new season of a show I’m reviewing starts, I go back and rewatch the previous season to prepare… to get myself back into the story. I admit that I didn’t do that with Vikings this time. The little one who had the good sense to be born last year just in time to give me maternity leave to write about last season’s Vikings is now a ravaging Viking himself, leaving Mummy little time to do more than is strictly necessary. As a result, it’s been months since I’ve seen an episode and got to experience the season premiere with new(ish) eyes.

Ciarán Donnelly’s establishing shot, then, following Ragnar...
