The all-new Carrie series, a tv series adaptation of the critically acclaimed Stephen King novel, has confirmed many cast members this last weekend. The series is being headed by Prime Video and Mike Flanagan has been tapped to man the helm. The veteran director with both films and series under his belt has locked in his main cast. Flanagan was recently in an exclusive partnership with Netflix, where most of his work has resided. This project will be one of the many he is tackling since exiting the partnership, along with The Life of Chuck.

Mike Flanagan, who is steering Prime Video’s upcoming Carrie series, says the production looked at more than a thousand submissions for the lead role before deciding on Summer Howell.

“I think we looked at 1,800 different candidates for that role,” Flanagan told The Hollywood Reporter at the premiere of his new film The Life of Chuck, his latest collaboration with Carrie author Stephen King. “It was an exhaustive process.”

Sissy Spacek famously starred as telekentic teenager Carrie White in the 1976 film adaptation of King’s 1974 book, while Chloe Grace Moretz took on the role for the 2013 remake. Other actresses who have portrayed the character on both the big and small screen include Angela Bettis in a 2002 TV movie and Emily Bergl in the poorly reviewed 1999 sequel The Rage: Carrie 2.

While the UK has to wait a while longer for Mike Flanagan’s The Life Of Chuck, the director is already looking ahead. The director’s next project will take him back to the land of television as he looks to adapt Stephen King’s Carrie to a series.

As reported by Variety, the TV series has now revealed its main cast. Samantha Sloyan, a Flanagan regular, is set to portray Margaret White while Summer H. Howell will portray the titular teenage girl with supernatural powers.

Sinea Adugong will play Sue Snell while Joel Oulette plays her boyfriend Tommy and Matthew Lillard will appear as Principle Grayle. Alison Thornton will be Chris Hargensen, Carrie’s high school tormentor and Prey’s Amber Midthunder plays the empathetic Miss Desjardin.

Maggie Lawson is getting back into law enforcement. The Psych star is joining the cast of Boston Blue, CBS’ Donnie Wahlberg-led offshoot of Blue Bloods, our sister site Deadline reports.

Lawson is playing Boston Police Department Superintendent Sarah Silver, the “strong-willed” and “decisive” stepsister of Detective Lena Silver (played by Sonequa Martin-Green). Carrie, the subject of author Stephen King’s first published novel and one of the greatest female icons in the horror genre, is coming back – and this time Mike Flanagan is the one taking her to prom. The Prime Video series based on Stephen King’s Carrie has filled out its core cast.

Summer Howell (Cult of Chucky, Hallmark’s Crashing Through the Snow) is playing the title role in the drama, a teenager with newly emerging telekinetic abilities. Samantha Sloyan (The Pitt) will star alongside Howell as Margaret White, Carrie’s domineering mother. Alison Thornton, Thalia Dudek, Siena Agudong, Amber Midthunder, Josie Totah, Arthur Conti, Joel Oulette and Matthew Lillard have also joined the cast.

It feels just like yesterday when Disney announced that a fifth Descendants movie was in the works, and now, the studio has announced that the movie has taken a major step on our screens. And while it feels like time flew, we didn't travel through time. Production on the movie began in April, and fast-forward to about two months later, filming has now wrapped. The update was announced in a video posted on the official Disney Instagram account.

The video features franchise stars Kylie Cantrall and Malia Baker dressed as themselves in the present day. After a brief introduction, Cantrall picks up the antique pocket watch that serves as a time travel machine in the movie. After both agree to use it, they are transformed into their respective characters, Princess Red and Princess Chloe. Surprised, they ask an unseen person, "What day is it?" and they get the response, "It's the last day of production.

Another anticipated Disney sequel has entered its post-production phase. Descendants: Wicked Wonderland has wrapped filming, sharing new behind-the-scenes images and videos to celebrate the occasion.

On the official Instagram account for the Descendants franchise, a video was shared showing Wicked Wonderland leads Kylie Cantrall and Malia Baker using the magic pocket watch to travel into "the future," which is actually the last day of production on the sequel. "That's a wrap!" reads the caption on the post, which includes several new behind-the-scenes photos featuring the cast and crew of the fifth Descendants movie.

Today, Disney Branded Television announced the official title for the fifth film of the Descendants franchise. Descendants 5 will now officially be known as Descendants: Wicked Wonderland.

The title announcement also included confirmation that Brandy will reprise her role as Cinderella and Rita Ora will return as the Queen of Hearts. Filming is currently underway, with the fifth installment of the franchise targeting a 2026 premiere on Disney+ and Disney Channel.

“Descendants: Wicked Wonderland explores what ‘happily ever after’ really means for Red (Kylie Cantrall) and Chloe (Malia Baker) following their time-traveling adventures in the 2024 hit film Descendants: The Rise of Red,” reads Disney Channel’s synopsis. “Set primarily in present-day Wonderland with a host of new and familiar characters, this sequel delves into the warning at the end of the previous movie: There are consequences when you alter the fabric of time.

Both Rita Ora and Brandy are set to reprise their roles from the “Descendants” film franchise in the upcoming fifth film.

The fifth film, now titled “Descendants: Wicked Wonderland,” will see Brandy once again play Cinderella with Ora again playing the Queen of Hearts. In addition, Paolo Montalban will return as King Charming and Melanie Paxson returns as the Fairy Godmother, making Paxson the only actor to appear in all five “Descendants” films.

The Canadian broadcaster CBC has pulled the plug on a planned second season of its series “Trickster” after co-creator Michelle Latimer was exposed for falsely claiming Indigenous identity last month.

The series, which is also aired in the U.S. on The CW, is an adaptation of the novel “Son of a Trickster” by the Indigenous author Eden Robinson. Led by Joel Oulette, the series was hailed upon its October 2020 release for featuring Indigenous cast and crew.

“We have had many conversations over the last few weeks with a view to continuing production on a second season of Trickster. Those conversations included producers, writers, actors, and the author of the books on which Trickster is based,” the network said in a statement. “Fully respecting everyone’s perspective, season two will not move forward as planned unfortunately.”

CBC has reversed its Season 2 renewal decision for indigenous supernatural drama series Trickster after co-creator/director Michelle Latimer became embroiled in a controversy over her claimed indigenous ancestry.

In the U.S., the CW acquired the series, which debuted on the network on Jan. 12. Three episodes into its six-episode run, the drama has delivered decent numbers for a lower-cost acquisition. The network will air the rest of the Season 1 episodes; I hear it is unlikely to take over the project as a CW original following its cancelation by CBC.

The drama, Season 1 of which is currently airing stateside on The CW (the finale airs Feb. 16), centers on an indigenous teen (Joel Oulette) who begins to see strange, otherworldly things — talking ravens, doppelgängers and skin monsters, to name a few! — as he struggles to keep his family above water.
