It’s a seemingly normal morning for Joe, his digital assistant Mel wakes him up after preparing his condo for him. It also tells him his girlfriend Ash wants to meet him for coffee, something that spurs a flashback to their first meeting. He tells Mel to send Maxine a message that she’ll be running the store until he arrives and sets out to meet Ash.

When she arrives, Ash is noticeably nervous and says she has to tell him something. She says she loves him and manages to get as far as saying that she’s not from here before a man walks up and shoots her in the head. Joe chases him, but he seems to disappear in a dead-end alley.

Voltage Pictures will be kicking off worldwide sales in TIFF on the thriller 1 Million Followers starring Shelley Q from Darkest Age and Evan Williams from Blonde.

Harvey Lowry’s thriller centres on Karissa, a small-town girl who is invited by a renowned influencer to a mansion in Thailand where the beautiful mingle as they build Karissa up to a million followers.

Things take a dark turn with the introduction of the guests’ mysterious sponsor and true intentions are revealed. Paul Kim wrote the screenplay and production took place in Phuket, Thailand.

Sci-Fi Thriller ‘Levels’ Begins Filming In Canada With Cara Gee & Peter Mooney Leading Cast

Exclusive: Production is underway in Canada on sci fi-thriller Levels, starring Cara Gee (The Expanse), Peter Mooney (Burden of Truth), Aaron Abrams (Hannibal), and David Hewlett (Nightmare Alley).

Set in the near future, the film follows Ash — the love of Joe’s life — who is shockingly murdered before his eyes. As his world unravels, he comes to learn that nothing is as it seems.

Levels will mark Adam Stern’s first feature after making two shorts and working in VFX for more than two decades (presiding over Artifex Studios) with credits including series Continuum and Almost Human.

Producers are Stern of Orbital Mechanics, Tony Wosk of Middle Child Films and Kyle Bornais of Farpoint Films.

Amp International has come aboard for sales and has pre-sold the film in multiple territories including Germany (Capelight) and Middle East (Front Row).

Chances for a second season of the Zero Chill TV series have melted. The Netflix skating drama series has been cancelled after one round of 10 episodes.

A teen drama created by Kirstie Falkous and John Regier, Zero Chill stars Grace Beedie, Dakota Benjamin Taylor, Jeremias Amoore, Anastasia Chocholatá, Leonardo Fontes, Jade Ma, Sarah-Jane Potts, Doug Rao, Tanja Ribič, Oscar Skagerberg, Stan Steinbichler, and Christina Tam. In the story, the MacBentley family moves from Toronto to England when son Mac (Taylor) is offered a place at a legendary hockey academy. He's arrogant but also a superstar player. Adelaide Clemens, Patrick J. Adams, Douglas Smith and Kathleen Turner will star in “The Swearing Jar.”

The musical romance will be directed by Lindsay MacKay (“Wet Bum”) from a script by Kate Hewlett (“Malory Towers”), who adapts her play of the same name. David Hewlett (“The Shape of Water”) and Jade Ma (“Zero Chill”) round out the cast.

“The Swearing Jar” centers on Carey, a high-school music teacher who throws a birthday concert for her husband, Simon, making them reminisce about their shared past. Through comedy, music and memory, the film will chart Carey and Simon’s relationship and the birth of their child.

Filming will take place this month in Toronto and Hamilton, Ontario. Distribution rights will be sold worldwide by Metro Films International, and the film will be released in Canada by Level Film. It’s eyeing a festival run next fall.

Netflix Gets Its Skates On With British Ya Drama ‘Zero Chill’ From ‘Free Rein’ Producer Lime Pictures
Exclusive: The team behind Netflix’s Ya horse drama Free Rein is saddling up for another scripted teen series for the streamer.

The Svod service has commissioned Zero Chill from All3Media-backed Lime Pictures.

The ten-part series follows 15-year old figure skater Kayla, whose life is up-ended from Canada to the UK when her twin brother Mac gets a place at a legendary hockey academy. Distraught at her parents’ decision to put her brother’s ambitions before her own, Kayla must find her place on the ice again in the shadow of her superstar brother.

Zero Chill was created by Doc Martin and Free Rein writers Kirstie Falkous and John Regier and the writers’ room is overseen by Ackley Bridge writer Adam Usden. Angelo Abela (Free Rein) and Tim Compton (The Evermoor Chronicles), who run Lime Pictures’ kids division, exec produce.
