The UK’s Film Seekers has locked in UK and US deals for Thom Arizmendi and Austin Parks Stewart’s thriller Wake, starring Atypical’s Fivel Stewart.

Alarm Pictures will release in the UK and US in April, with further deals including Canada (Mongrel Media), Latin America (Encripta), Cis/Baltics (New People) and Portugal (Vendetta).

Fivel Stewart, who had a role in the recent Sam Raimi-produced horror film Umma (read our review Here), is now set to star in and executive produce the horror thriller Wake, coming our way from directors Thom Arizmendi and Austin Parks Stewart.

It has been revealed that up-and-coming actress Fivel Stewart is attached to star in the new horror thriller, Wake. Stewart will serve as an executive producer on the film as well. Tom Arizmendi and Austin Parks Stewart will direct the movie from a screenplay by Elizabeth H. Vu. Daniel Blake Smith, Teddy Van Gough, and Sam Logan are all serving as producers on Wake, which is being described as a psychological horror film set in Hollywood.

Fresh off this year’s Umma, Fivel Stewart has set up her next horror project, with Deadline reporting today that Stewart will executive produce and also star in a film titled Wake.

Tom Arizmendi and Austin Parks Stewart are directing Wake.

Strange occurrences quickly turn the meeting into a nightmare. Stewart’s fellow producers on the project are Daniel Blake Smith, Teddy Van Gough and Sam Logan.

Stewart played Izzy on Netflix’s hit series Atypical, more recently starring opposite Sandra Oh in the Sam Raimi-produced supernatural horror film Umma, as well as in the Freeform film Close Up with A Quiet Place’s Millicent Simmonds. The actress has also been seen in films like The Never List and on such series as Awesomeness TV’s T@gged. She is represented by Sovereign Talent Group and Tsc Entertainment.

Exclusive: LeToya Luckett (Greenleaf), Romeo Miller (Honey) and Keith David (Greenleaf) have signed on to star in the film A Miracle Before Christmas, from writer-director LazRael Lison (#Unknown).

The love story centers on Mercedes Wright (Luckett), a famous, fast-talking relationship therapist who has the answers to fixing everyone else’s marital issues, but is challenged by problems faced with her own husband (Miller), leaning on help from an angel (David) to get past them. Lison and Tatiana Chekhova are producing the film under their Summer House Pictures banner, with Charles F. Porter of Black Bench Productions, and Jasper Cole (Never and Again). Marlon D. Haynes is serving as exec producer.

We’ve all read and seen examples of films big and small being created in the large film capitals of the world. We know what it is like to read about the creation of a film in Los Angeles, New York or Europe and many other locations around the world. We know the trials, tribulations, ups and downs of productions outside of St. Louis…but what about St. Louis? There are a few articles speaking about it, but not many that give a film the same respect that a higher production value film would get.

Daniel Blake Smith is a writer and filmmaker who loves to tell true, compelling American stories. Raised in the north Texas town of Wolfe City, and educated at Oklahoma State University and the University of Virginia (where he received his doctorate in American history), Smith is the author of several books, most recently a new book about the epic internal battles in Indian country that culminated in the epic tragedy of forced removal: An American Betrayal: Cherokee Patriots and the Trail of Tears. He’s also the co-author of a critical narrative story about early Virginia, The Shipwreck That Saved Jamestown . Formerly a professor of American History at the University of Kentucky, Smith now lives in St. Louis where he writes books and makes films.
