WWE presented arguably the biggest night in the history of Monday Night Raw, as the first live show of the Netflix era took place at the Intuit Dome in Los Angeles, CA. Roman Reigns defeated Solo Sikoa in Tribal Combat to stand as WWE's Only Tribal Chief after run-ins from Cody Rhodes, Kevin Owens, The Bloodline and more. The Rock and Paul 'Triple H' Levesque opened the show, with the former putting the Ula Fala on Roman at the match's end. John Cena also declared himself for the 2025 Royal Rumble as he begins his year-long Farewell Tour.

2024 was a gift to wrestling fans for many members of the WWE Universe. It was effectively the year in which the company and its product worked its way back into the mainstream, thanks in large part to a monumental Netflix deal and the return of Hollywood superstar, The Rock. The year offered some incredible moments for WWE spectators, but it also offered some incredible matches.

The year of 2024 gave audiences too many matches to choose from in the Match of the Year department, many of which just barely missed the cut. Liv Morgan vs. Iyo Sky, WarGames, Nxt's Iron Survivor, Friday Night SmackDown's Triple Threat Ladder Match, Ludwig Kaiser vs. Sheamus vs. Bron Breakker, and Randy Orton's match with Gunther in Berlin are all examples of honorable mentions. However, the matches that did happen to leave an imprint in the minds of the WWE Universe are ones that are truly must-see.

The final Monday Night Raw on Cable Television before WWE moves its signature show to Netflix next week was one rammed full of incident. Cm Punk and Seth Rollins had an all-timer of a mic battle that simply has to be seen to be believed. Both men were left snarling at each other as Raw went off the air. No punches were thrown. Just molten hot rage and personal, below-the-belt jibes.

Elsewhere, Dakota Kai and Lyra Valkyria will compete for the first Women's Intercontinental Championship. Sheamus returned to attack Ludwig Kaiser, The New Day were a nuisance all evening and landed a match with Rey Mysterio and the Lwo. Damian Priest and The War Raiders defeated The Judgment Day, and Chad Gable's renaissance continued with a win over Otis.

Bron Breakker successfully defended his Intercontinental title against Ludwig Kaiser, and Chad Gable and American Made signaled their intention to dismantle The Alpha Academy.

The War Raiders are Raw's new Tag Team Champions, after soundly beating The Judgment Day in the night's Main Event. Zoey Stark is the latest semi-finalist in the Women's Intercontinental Championship tournament, and Karrion Kross will not let The Miz escape the clutches of The Final Testament and their war with The Wyatt Sicks. Sami Zayn attacked Drew McIntyre backstage, and Rhea Ripley is now confirmed as the Number One Contender for Liv Morgan's WWE Championship.

Dakota Kai returned to Damage Ctrl who then won a trios match against Pure Fusion Collective, and Bianca Belair and Jade Cargill successfully defended their tag team championships against Liv Morgan and Raquel Rodriguez in a match that saw many SmackDown women invading. When Morgan attempted to use the briefcase on Jax after the bell, though, the WWE Women’s Champion took it away from her and used it on Liv, Raquel Rodregez and “Dirty” Dominik Mysterio before crushing her WWE Crown Jewel opponent with the Annihilator.

Looking to receive a title match against World Heavyweight Champion Gunther, Sami Zayn took on The Ring General’s right-hand man Ludwig Kaiser. Kaiser used the ringside area to his advantage by knocking Zayn off to the top of the barricade into the timekeeper’s area and by dropkicking Zayn directly into the ring steps. Despite the repeated abuse from Kaiser, Zayn hit the Helluva Kick to gain the impressive win. After the match, Gunther once again refused to defend the World Heavyweight Title against Zayn.

This week's episode of WWE Monday Night Raw was headlined by one of the most feelgood moments of the year. Jey Uso defeated Bron Breakker to win the Intercontinental Championship in the night's Main Event to win his first singles title. Welcome to this week’s Nxt review right here on Nerdly. I’m Nathan Favel and we have Vince McMahon pretending that he is funding an independent promotion and a developmental school at the same time. Nxt…it exists. I enjoy the matches…usually. That being said, Nxt is most certainly a WWE product. It has the WWE house style getting mixed with a diluted version of the Ring Of Honor house style, but without any of the loose (very loose) psychology of either. I don’t despise Nxt, but I definitely don’t see it as so separate from Vince McMahon’s vision for pro wrestling as others do, so I don’t shower it with praise. There’s too many stories in Nxt. There’s too many titles in Nxt. There’s no true focal point, except for when someone like Finn Balor has the strap wrapped around his waist.
