From ‘Howl’s Moving Castle’ to ‘Porco Rosso’, 3 Batman Actors Have Voiced Ghibli Roles
Image
The recent release of The Boy and the Heron put a spotlight on how often Studio Ghibli casts regular celebrities rather than voice actors to play the roles. For the titular grey heron, Robert Pattinson provided his talents and gave a fantastically weird performance none of us expected from him.

Robert Pattinson’s role in The Boy and the Heron is a far cry from his previous movie, Matt Reeves’ The Batman, where he once again plays the titular character. However, there’s something more curious about his casting that doesn’t involve how diverse his acting is.

Pattinson isn’t the first actor Studio Ghibli has cast who has played the DC superhero, Batman. One of them played arguably the most iconic Ghibli character, while the other was in a more underrated movie.

Winona Ryder Returns to the Ghost House With New Spooky 'Beetlejuice' Funko Pop Set
Image
Thanks to Beetlejuice Beetlejuice being a major success for director Tim Burton and Warner Bros. last year, horror fans have been receiving an undead amount of new merchandise based on the ghostly franchise. This usually centers around Michael Keaton’s beloved “Ghost With the Most” with action figures and different Funko Pops showcasing the many different outfits Beetlejuice has worn across the two films. 15 Movies You Forgot Were Turned Into Animated Series
Image
At this point in the evolution of popular media, it's a cliché to say that everyone's run out of ideas. You need only take a look at a recent year-end box office list to see just how many major properties are getting recycled all the time, rebooted and remade and turned into something new simply because it has built-in name recognition for audiences.

That kind of thing has, in fact, been going on for quite a while. Remakes have been happening since the earliest decades of film history, but in the 1980s and 1990s especially, many breakout movies were immediately monetized as much as possible, adapted into toy lines and breakfast cereals and, yes, Saturday morning cartoons. Some of those cartoons caught on, becoming bona fide smashes in their own right -- for example, it can be jarring to watch the original "Beetlejuice" movie and realize that Beetlejuice and Lydia Deetz were not,...

Alec Baldwin Explains Why He Prefers the Original Beetlejuice After Missing Out on Last Year's Sequel
Image
Alec Baldwin played a major part of the original Beetlejuice film, but he was not among the returning stars of last year's sequel, Beetlejuice Beetlejuice. The actor did watch the film, however, and he's shared his thoughts, noting how he still prefers the original movie over the sequel.

Baldwin discussed Beetlejuice during a recent interview for the One Bad Movie podcast, hosted by brother Stephen Baldwin. Alec said that he saw the sequel in theaters twice at the request of his kids, who still had only seen video clips of the original film that he was in. Baldwin then spoke about how the sequel feels more "grim" compared to the "innocent" original. The actor was also not thrilled about director Tim Burton putting an "inconceivably gorgeous" woman like Monica Bellucci in dark makeup and stitches to portray the soul-sucking ghoul Delores, the ex-wife of Betelgeuse (Michael Keaton).

Beetlejuice 3 in the works at Warner Bros.

Beetlejuice, Beetlejuice was a big success for Warner Bros., grossing over $451 million worldwide. I’m pretty sure you know what that number means — sequel. While speaking with Deadline, Warner Bros. CEO’s Michael De Luca and Pamela Abdy revealed that Beetlejuice 3 is in the works.

However, it’s not quite official just yet. “Imminently,” De Luca said. “The ink might not be dry on the deals yet, but imminently.“

During the London premiere of Beetlejuice, Beetlejuice, director Tim Burton didn’t seem optimistic about the chances of another sequel due to the amount of time it took to get the first sequel off the ground. “Well, if [the same] time frame goes on, I’ll be about 100,” Burton said. “So maybe. I Want a Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood-Style Netflix Remake of a Popular 2000s Anime Directly Inspired by Tim Burton
Image
Whoever said remakes aren’t perfectly done needs to take a good look at Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood. The 2009 series is a reboot of the 2003 anime of the same name, but it is so much better. It lived up to the idea and expectations of a reboot, but there’s one anime that needs to do the same.

Edward Elric from Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood | Credit: Studio Bones

In particular, this gothic series was all the rage back in the 2000s, and for the right reasons. This is the era of remakes, especially with Fruits Basket, Sailor Moon and others getting their reboots. It only makes sense for this macabre anime to jump on the bandwagon and here’s why.

Wtf Happened to Big Fish?
Image
If you were alive and paying attention in the early 2000s, chances are you remember Tim Burton’s Big Fish. Or maybe you don’t. That’s kind of the problem. Here we are, over twenty years later, and Big Fish remains a cinematic anomaly—loved by those who saw it but often forgotten in broader conversations about Burton’s filmography. How did one of the director’s most ambitious, heartfelt, and visually stunning films fade into relative obscurity? And why does it deserve to be remembered as his second-best film, right behind Ed Wood? Let’s dive into this weird, wonderful, and sadly overlooked masterpiece to figure out just what the fuck happened to Big Fish.

Released in 2003, Big Fish hit theaters when Tim Burton’s career was at a crossroads. He was still riding high from his ‘90s dominance—where he cranked out Edward Scissorhands, Batman Returns, and...

A first look at the new Tim Burton docuseries explores the mad genius of one of cinema’s most enigmatic filmmakers
Image
When people ask me who my favorite filmmakers are, one of the first names that pop into my twisted brain meats is Tim Burton, the mad genius behind such timeless and stylish films as Pee-wee’s Big Adventure, Edward Scissorhands, Beetlejuice, Batman, Ed Wood, Dark Shadows, and one of my personal favorites, Big Fish. From the start of his career as a director of unique short films, it was apparent Burton would go on to create great things. When Pee-wee’s Big Adventure “Tequila” danced its way onto the silver screen, it was clear that a genie had escaped the Hollywood bottle. Today, we’re getting a first look at Tara Wood’s four-part docuseries about the life and beloved work of Tim Burton.

Wood’s Tim Burton docuseries marks a special occasion. It is the first exploration of Burton’s storied career with Burton’s blessing. The presentation includes exclusive interviews,...

The first look at a four-part, authorized documentary about the life and work of Tim Burton has been unveiled.

The documentary, from director Tara Wood (21 Years: Richard Linklater), features some of the biggest stars to appear in Burton’s filmography.

Among them are frequent collaborator Johnny Depp (Edward Scissorhands, Ed Wood, Alice in Wonderland), Winona Ryder (Edward Scissorhands, Beetlejuice and its sequel), Helena Bonham Carter (Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, Sweeney Todd and Burton’s ex-partner) and Michael Keaton (Batman, Batman Returns).

Frequent Burton film composer Danny Elfman also appears in the doc.

“I would love to take a trip inside his brain — this kingdom where these characters live,” says Ryder in the preview.

“He’s an auteur, he’s a visionary, he’s an artist with images and thoughts,” notes Depp. “He’s got a lot going on in there. Tim is the real thing.”

Warner Bros. Reportedly Planning ‘Superman’ Marketing Campaign and Press Tour Similar to ‘Barbie’ Roll-Out
Image
Warner Bros. is going all out with its marketing campaign for the upcoming Superman film, and it’s taking a page from its massive success with Barbie. At the DC Studios press conference, co-chiefs Peter Safran and James Gunn discussed how the company is gearing up for a major promotional push, despite the surprising departure of Josh Goldstine, Warner Bros. Global Marketing head.

After the highly successful Superman trailer hit 250 million views, the studio is preparing a wide-reaching campaign, aiming to generate excitement similar to the way Barbie was marketed across multiple platforms, from Food Network to HGTV.

The strategy for Barbie helped the movie become the studio’s highest-grossing film ever, making $1.44 billion worldwide.

Safran and Gunn emphasized that even with the changes in the marketing team, they are closely working with the new heads of marketing, Christian Davin, Dana Nussbaum, and John Stanford, to ensure the campaign is handled expertly.

BAFTA Awards: ‘Conclave’ Scores Best Film as ‘The Brutalist’ Ties With Four Wins and Mikey Madison Surprises in Leading Actress
Image
At a BAFTA Awards where there was no clear frontrunner going into the ceremony, British Academy voters chose to largely share the spoils when it came to handing out honors.

But only one could win the top prize of best film, and this year that went to “Conclave,” which had entered the night with the most number of nominations (11). Edward Berger’s Vatican thriller wound up tying with Brady Corbet’s “The Brutalist” with four BAFTA wins each. Of its four, the 3.5-hour American epic won leading actor for Adrien Brody and director for Corbet.

Meanwhile, there was a surprise when Mikey Madison was named leading actress for “Anora” (one of two wins for Sean Baker’s sex worker comedy), with “The Substance” star Demi Moore’s seem by many as sure bet. Coralie Fargeat’s body-horror instead took home one award, for makeup and hairstyling.

Elsewhere, Jacques Audiard’s crime musical “Emilia Pérez,...

Michael Keaton's Unsung R-Rated 2024 Dramedy on Max Perfectly Shows Off Why It's a Crime He's Never Won an Oscar
Image
Hallie Meyers-Shyer’s Goodrichacts as a rebuttal to the "they just don't make 'em like they used to" claim. A simple and sweet family dramedy with a competent script, touching themes, and a tremendous lead performance from a likable movie star, Meyers-Shyer's sophomore effort at times feels like it was pulled straight out of 1995. That anchoring performance is, of course, given by the great Michael Keaton. The iconic Beetlejuice and Batman actor is given a difficult task in this film. He has to find a way to engage with — and charm — the audience while playing a very flawed character. Keaton's character, the titular Andy Goodrich, is the type of person that you would be way less forgiving of if he was a real figure in your life, rather than a character being portrayed by a famous actor. The film follows his journey to becoming a better and more attentive father.

Rumor: Jenna Ortega Is Reportedly Being Considered For A Major Marvel Role
Image
Thanks to breakout roles in the Scream revival, Netflix's Wednesday and last year's Beetlejuice sequel, Jenna Ortega is fast becoming one of the most sought-after young actors in Hollywood, so it probably won't come as much of a surprise to learn that she's being courted by Marvel Studios.

We have previously heard that Ortega was being eyed for a superhero part, but Daniel Richtman is now reporting that the actress is being considered for a big Marvel Cinematic Universe role.

It's always worth noting that Marvel meets with a lot of talent, but if Ortega has actually entered negotiations for an upcoming project, there's a good chance the trades will get hold of the story before too long.

Even if she is in talks, there's no guarantee that things will work out. Ortega has a busy schedule ahead, with a lead role in Taika Waititi's Klara and the Sun adaptation,...

Michael Keaton and Mila Kunis Family Ties Comedy is Now Streaming on Max
Image
Michael Keaton swapped his inappropriate and manic Beetlejuice persona for a very different one in his second late 2024 release, Goodrich. Keaton’s second theatrical release in as many months was a more gentle and heartwarming comedy about the challenges of parenting and family, and after disappointing at the box office, it has now scored a chart-topping debut on Max.

Goodrich is directed by Hallie Meyers-Shyer, and focuses on Andy Goodrich, an art dealer who finds himself being put in charge of his nine-year-old twins when his younger wife checks into rehab. Having lost touch with parenting skills, Goodrich is forced to seek help from his daughter from a previous marriage, Grace (Mila Kunis), and together they find out what it means to reconnect with family when things have drifted apart.

Released on October 18, the movie failed to make a mark in theaters, but it scored well with both critics and audiences on Rotten Tomatoes.

Ivan Reitman Didn’t Understand Why People Wanted So Many ‘Ghostbusters’ Movies
Image
It’s hard to believe that there was once a time when the Ghostbusters franchise consisted of just a single movie. Since the original Ghostbusters hit theaters in 1984, it’s spawned a near-countless number of sequels, comic books, TV cartoons and, of course, branded citrus juices.

Oh, and theme-park attractions, like the one in which Beetlejuice uses magic to force the Ghostbusters to dance to “I’m Too Sexy” and Smash Mouth’s “All-Star.”

Oddly enough, one person who didn’t understand why the Ghostbusters franchise needed to be a franchise was the guy who literally made Ghostbusters.

As reported by Ghostbustersnews.com, Jason Reitman, son of Ghostbusters director Ivan Reitman, recently guested on comedian Neal Brennan’s podcast Blocks. While discussing his work on Ghostbusters: Afterlife (which he confessed was the “least funny Ghostbusters movie”), Jason Reitman made a surprising admission about his father. “My dad never understood sequels. My dad was like,...

Tim Burton's Beetlejuice Beetlejuice Repeated A Complaint About His $296M Dark Fantasy Movie Trending On Streaming
Image
Tim Burton's 2016 movie Miss Peregrine's Home for Peculiar Children is now streaming on Max, and although the movie is currently trending, it nevertheless shares criticisms with Burton's much more recent movie Beetlejuice Beetlejuice. Beetlejuice Beetlejuice, the long-awaited sequel to the beloved 1988 cult classic Beetlejuice, premiered in theaters on September 6th, 2024. Impressively, the sequel saw the return of some of the biggest stars from the original Beetlejuice's cast of characters, including Winona Ryder as Lydia Deetz and Catherine O'Hara as Delia Deetz.

Because of the extensive cultural significance Beetlejuice Beetlejuice represented, it was a major box office success. The movie grossed $451 million worldwide according to Box Office Mojo, making it one of the highest-grossing movies of 2024. Even so, there were plenty of criticisms of and complaints about Beetlejuice Beetlejuice, some of which have been lodged at multiple Tim Burton movies, including Miss Peregrine's Home for Peculiar Children.

Is 'Beetlejuice' Really a Horror Movie?
Image
Tim Burton is one of Hollywood's most exciting and unique filmmakers, with the famed director creating a lucrative niche for himself in the industry and emerging as the resident king of all things Gothic and macabre, becoming the mastermind behind hits like Edward Scissorhands, Batman, Big Fish, and Corpse Bride. With an illustrious career spanning four decades, Burton continues to dazzle and delight moviegoers with his whimsical blend of horror, humor, and fantasy.

Arguably one of Burton's most beloved and enduring classics is none other than the 1988 masterpiece Beetlejuice, which featured a tour de force performance by Michael Keaton in addition to those by Winona Ryder, Alec Baldwin, Geena Davis, and Catherine O'Hara. The '80s gem is a masterclass in how to brilliantly combine genres and create an unforgettable cinematic experience, as proven by the fact that fans flocked to theaters in 2024 to witness the long-awaited sequel Beetlejuice Beetlejuice.

The 10 Highest-Grossing Movies of 2024
Image
2024 was a great year for movie fans, delivering a combination of instant classics, blockbuster hits, and well-received sequels, from Nosferatu and Longlegs to Twisters and Alien: Romulus. While some of the year's best movies weren't blockbuster hits, others crossed box office records, delivering fan service and entertainment for various fan bases. The year has been perfect for large franchises.

Although not a surprise, 2024 marks a rarity for Hollywood as a year when all of the US' ten highest-grossing movies are sequels, without exception. From long-awaited superhero team-ups to continuations of iconic family animated movies, the year has raked in billions for major studios, affirming the industry's focus on major franchises. Financial success is no guarantee of quality one way or the other, but the year has produced plenty of successful and entertaining films.

Actors That Fans Didn't Realize Starred in Several 2024 Movies
Image
In another distinctive year for movies, 2024 featured many actors in Hollywood getting very booked and busy. It is typical for an actor to have one or two projects for them to stand out in the year, yet some actors go beyond and star in three or more movies. Because 2024 became crowded with new cinematic features, most viewers didn't realize they saw one actor multiple times.

These actors in 2024 showcased more of their range. They could transition from a spectacular blockbuster to a more character-driven drama or even an animated feature. Acting veterans like Willem Dafoe and Giancarlo Esposito and continuously rising stars such as Margaret Qualley and Fred Hechinger are just a few of several performers who worked extra hard during this particular year.

These Were 2024's 10 Highest Grossing Movies (And Only Two Are Based On Comic Books)
Image
2024 has very nearly reached its end and, for the most part, the box office has bounced back in what's proven to be a challenging few years post-pandemic.

Over the past 365 days or so, there have been some unexpected and noteworthy flops as well as a few surprise hits. Other movies, meanwhile, have been cut off at the knees by the very studios releasing them after they were rushed out on Digital platforms mere weeks after arriving in theaters.

In this feature, we've rounded up the 10 highest-grossing movies of 2024 and, believe it or not (and you probably will given what a mixed bag this year has been for the genre), only two of them are based on comic books.

You can find out what came out on top this year by clicking the "Next"/"View List" buttons below.

5 Spookiest Theories About Beetlejuice’s Backstory and How He Died
Image
Tim Burton’s Beetlejuice remains one of the most beloved supernatural comedies of all time, and at its heart lies the chaotic spirit who calls himself the “ghost with the most.” But who exactly was Beetlejuice before he became the stripe-suited menace of the Netherworld?

Whether he is designed after the traits of trickster Loki or inventor of lies Hermes, one thing is certain that Beetlejuice is an unreliable narrator.

Michael Keaton in a still from Beetlejuice (1988) | Credits: Warner Bros. Pictures

Throughout the film, he spins tales and changes his story as easily as he changes his forms, making any direct account of his past suspect at best.

So, trusting him to tell the truth about his origins does not make sense. But the following five are the theories that we can say are true (or are they?). Each one offers a unique glimpse into how this mischievous spirit might...

If You Loved Beetlejuice 2, Check Out These 10 Episodes Of The Beetlejuice TV Show
Image
Beetlejuice Beetlejuice has officially come to streaming, and because of this, it has become apparent that the Beetlejuice animated series holds many similarities to the new film. This show, like many other kids TV shows based on violent movies, takes the character of Beetlejuice and turns him more into a lovable nuisance and uncle-figure to Lydia Deetz than the menace he was in the original film. A change like this allowed showrunners to create a show that is appropriate and fun for all ages, exploring a new cast of wacky characters by depicting the afterlife as the colorful "Neitherworld."

Although the series and the original film have their fair share of differences, a few of the animation's best episodes are perfect for any fans of the movie. They evoke the feeling of Beetlejuice Beetlejuice, operating as a peek into the film decades into the future. Beetlejuice Beetlejuice is available to...
