As You Can’t Run Forever opens, a motorcyclist pulls into a gas station where a large man is yelling at a small dog. Instead of filling his tank, the cyclist walks over, draws a gun and shoots the man. Then he starts shooting anyone else he sees. This is Wade, he’s left several bodies behind him already, and he’s looking to add to his tally.
Miranda (Isabelle Anaya; Donny’s Bar Mitzvah) is a troubled young woman. She’s still resentful over her parent’s divorce and the subsequent suicide of her father. The fact that her mother Jenny and her stepfather Eddie are about to have a child of their own. Eddie’s daughter Emily is one already one sibling too many.

With Oscar winner J.K. Simmons leading your movie, you're already off to a solid start. Filmmaker Michelle Schumacher who also happens to be married to Simmons has a new film out this week that features the talented actor as a "psychopathic" villain, as Simmons recently described to us. A slew of other ominous adjectives come to mind when thinking about his mysterious character in Lionsgate's You Can't Run Forever, which centers on a mom in distress, Jenny (Fernanda Urrejola), trying to find her lost teenage daughter, Miranda (Isabelle Anaya). Meanwhile, Miranda is running for her life from a serial killer whose motive remains mysterious throughout much of the film.
It's a terrifying thrill ride of a feature, and we recently caught up with Schumacher to learn more about how Covid-19 inspired the themes of her new film, why seeing her husband...

Quick Links J.K. Simmons Begins as a Killer with No Motive: 'Does It Matter?' A Family Runs Into a Nightmare A Surprise Trip to the Past and a Thrilling but Cluttered Ending J.K. Simmons is magnetic and malevolent as a relentless killer in You Can't Run Forever. A visceral thriller that ultimately leads to uplifting themes of family, despite an ending that wraps some things up too quickly and becomes unfocused. There's a surprising break from the intensity that cleverly establishes Simmons' character in a way that illuminates his motives. It works.
Two movies are being released this week that share a common trait: They both center on psychopathic killers who seem to lack a motive in their routine executions. Oh, and they're both being released by Lionsgate. There's The Strangers: Chapter 1, the first installment of Renny Harlin's reimagining of Bryan Bertino's hit 2008 horror classic. Then there's You Can't Run Forever.

He already electrified the screen and perhaps shook you to the core in the Oscar-winning film Whiplash back in 2014. Actually, J.K. Simmons has been stealing the show in countless projects over the past years and even decades. Now, he's teamed up with wife and director Michelle Schumacher again for a dark new thriller from Lionsgate called You Can't Run Forever, out this week. Simmons gets top billing, but you'll quickly realize he's not exactly the good-guy protagonist in this twisted tale that ultimately becomes a celebration of family and the power of love.
Simmons and Schumacher previously teamed up for I'm Not Here, and we recently caught up with Simmons to learn more about how this latest collaboration is even more of a family affair than the last. Simmons also weighed in on the future of superhero films, his upcoming Christmas movie Red One,...

Oscar winner J.K. Simmons made his career on television, appearing in Law & Order and Oz, and while he did play J. Jonah Jameson in Sam Raimi’s Spider-Man trilogy (2002–2007), it wasn’t until Juno (2007) that he became a brand name, later appearing in Burn After Reading (2008), La La Land (2016), Justice League (2017), Being the Ricardos (2021), and other films. But, it was 2014’s Whiplash that earned him his first Oscar and earned him unanimous praise for his portrayal of the sadistic music instructor Terence Fletcher.
But, having said all of this, J.K. Simmons has a new movie coming out on May 17, 2024, an action thriller in which he will play the main role, but which is personal for him on more than one level, but more on that below.

Jk Simmons has big plans to unleash his inner villain in the upcoming thriller, "The Woods." Starring alongside Allen Leech ("Downton Abbey"), Fernanda Urrejola ("Cry Macho"), and Isabelle Anaya ("Donny's Bar Mitzvah"), Simmons plays a murderous sociopath on a rampage. Earlier this year, he flexed his muscles in "The Tomorrow War" and has previously shown some sociopathic tendencies in "Whiplash," so this feels like a pretty solid fit for Jk Simmons, a man with a certain air of intimidation surrounding him.
