As You Can’t Run Forever opens, a motorcyclist pulls into a gas station where a large man is yelling at a small dog. This is Wade, he’s left several bodies behind him already, and he’s looking to add to his tally.

Miranda (Isabelle Anaya; Donny’s Bar Mitzvah) is a troubled young woman. She’s still resentful over her parent’s divorce and the subsequent suicide of her father. The fact that her mother Jenny and her stepfather Eddie are about to have a child of their own. Eddie’s daughter Emily is one already one sibling too many.

With Oscar winner J.K. Simmons leading your movie, you're already off to a solid start. Filmmaker Michelle Schumacher who also happens to be married to Simmons has a new film out this week that features the talented actor as a "psychopathic" villain, as Simmons recently described to us. A slew of other ominous adjectives come to mind when thinking about his mysterious character in Lionsgate's You Can't Run Forever, which centers on a mom in distress, Jenny (Fernanda Urrejola), trying to find her lost teenage daughter, Miranda (Isabelle Anaya). Academy Award-winner J.K. Simmons is back as an evil teacher, but this time, he won't be screaming at you to stay at his tempo. You Can't Run Forever is a tense new thriller from Lionsgate that sees Simmons star as Wade - a college professor who embarks on a double life as a ruthless serial killer. Directed by Simmons' real-life partner, Michelle Schumacher, Wade's path of destruction sets its sights on an innocent young woman by the name of Miranda (Isabelle Anaya).

Oscar winner J.K. Simmons made his career on television, appearing in Law & Order and Oz, and while he did play J. Jonah Jameson in Sam Raimi’s Spider-Man trilogy (2002–2007), it wasn’t until Juno (2007) that he became a brand name, later appearing in Burn After Reading (2008), La La Land (2016), Justice League (2017), Being the Ricardos (2021), and other films. But, it was 2014’s Whiplash that earned him his first Oscar and earned him unanimous praise for his portrayal of the sadistic music instructor Terence Fletcher.

But, having said all of this, J.K. Simmons has a new movie coming out on May 17, 2024, an action thriller in which he will play the main role, but which is personal for him on more than one level, but more on that below.

The movie follows a teenage girl (Anaya) struggling with a tragic past who is hunted through the woods by a sociopath (Oscar winner Simmons) on a murderous rampage.

Pic is produced by Randle Schumacher (3 Geezers!) and is directed by Michelle Schumacher (I’m Not Here) from a script co-written with Carolyn Carpenter. Led by Simmons (Whiplash), it also stars Allen Leech (Downton Abbey: A New Era), Fernanda Urrejola (Cry Macho) and Isabelle Anaya (Donny’s Bar Mitzvah).

The deal was negotiated between Signature’s Director of Acquisitions & Development Elizabeth Williams and Voltage Pictures’ President and COO Jonathan Deckter.

Jk Simmons has big plans to unleash his inner villain in the upcoming thriller, "The Woods."
