Rick and Morty Season 8 Isn't Sure It Can Make a Time Loop Work, But I Do
Image
Rick and Morty's showrunner couldn't manage to craft a time loop episode, but this is territory that the franchise has already breached in the comics. It's been a rule for the show to never cover time travel, largely because it's considered a worn-out trope, but also because it's such a complicated one to fully delve into. The show seldom breaks this rule, but never enough for a full-fledged A-story.

In an interview with Polygon, Rick and Morty creator Dan Harmon and showrunner Scott Marder further discussed their difficulties with trying to create a time loop episode of the television series. When asked if there are any concepts in season 8 that they struggled to do for years and have only now found a way, they responded with the following:

Harmon: My frustrating answer to that question is that the answer to that question is one that happens in season 9! [A thing] I...

Interview: Minor Threats Team Dives Into the Family Dynamics of The Brood
Image
For the last two years, Dark Horse Comics has been delivering a brand-new comic book universe that shows a different side of superhero storytelling. The Minor Threats franchise has taken readers into a dangerous, experimental, and incredibly funny world that focuses less on the heroes and more on the underdogs.

Co-creators Patton Oswalt and Jordan Blum have been working with a number of talented writers and artists to expand their universe with spin-offs such as The Alternates and the currently ongoing Barfly. With Minor Threats next spin-off, The Brood, just weeks away, Oswalt and Blum, along with writer Heath Corson and artist Ian Culbard sat down to discuss their project and what fans can expect.

Minor Threats first debuted 2 years ago, and its blossomed into a full universe with multiple volumes and spin-offs. Talk a little bit about how this world came together and how its evolved since the first volume.

Rick and Morty: 10 Best Comics Every Fan of The TV Show Should Read
Image
Rick and Morty is a widely beloved adult animation series, and its easy to see why. The Adult Swim show expertly merges elements of high-concept Sci-Fi with the most immature toilet humor imaginable. Rick and Mortys funny, smart, and introduces a number of fascinating characters and interesting story arcs - all of which go beyond the TV show itself.

While Rick and Morty primarily exists in the form of an animated series (plus the Rick and Morty anime spin-off), it also has a massive presence in the world of comics. The main Rick and Morty comic series has had multiple volumes, not to mention the Rick and Morty Presents anthology-style books and standalone specials. In essence, theres no shortage of amazing Rick and Morty comics, but there are certainly some that fans of the animated series will enjoy more than others. DC's New Hero Has the Publisher's Most Inappropriate Name of All Time
Image
Warning: Contains Spoilers for Lobo Cancellation Special #1!

Article Contains Adult Language & Humor

Its no surprise to fans that DCs most inappropriately named hero is none other than Lobos new sidekick, named by the Main Man himself. In fact, this sidekick's name might even outdo Marvels infamously named Spider-b**** in sheer audacity. But whether Lobos sidekick or Marvels hero holds the crown for the most hilariously inappropriate name is a debate that fans must settle for themselves.

Kyle Starks and Kyle Hotzs Lobo Cancellation Special #1 is a wild ride from start to finish, jam-packed with adult humor and ultra-violent action. The special begins with Lobo stranded on a primitive planet for six years until some aliens track him down, seeking to hire him for a contract to rescue their kings daughter, who has been kidnapped by the fearsome Murdercrotch Slaughterface.

Lobo's New Origin in DC Lore Officially Changes Him from Anti-Hero to (Incredibly Violent) Hero
Adrienne Barbeau, Greg Eagles, Tara Strong, Diane Pershing, and Arleen Sorkin in Gotham Girls (2000)
Warning: Spoilers for Lobo Cancellation Special #1!More than just an anti-hero, Lobo is one of DC's grisliest characters. Often featured in R-rated comics, with a vernacular plagued with alien slang, Lobo is one of the most violent characters ever created for traditional superhero comics. While his background could certainly paint him as a villain, rather than just as a bloodthirsty bounty hunter, Lobo's new take on his ghastly origin will make any comic fan think twice about him.

In his most recent adventure, Lobo is at his most unhinged in Lobo Cancellation Special #1 by Kyle Starks, Kyle Hotz, Dan Brown, and Tom Napolitano. Tasked by a meek alien species to track down their captured princess from a sort of warworld, he obliges - for the right price, that is. And yet, given his bloody history that precedes him, Lobo is allowed to rescue the hostage without any bloodshed.

10 Greatest Comics From DC's Black Label (That Aren't Batman)

Black Label comics prioritize deep storytelling, genre diversity, and beloved creative teams for mature readers. Batman-centric stories dominate the imprint, but standout series like American Vampire 1976 offer fresh universes and engaging artwork. Characters like Peacemaker and Swamp Thing get unique, compelling stories that showcase DC's potential beyond Batman.

In 2018, DC Comics launched its Black Label line of comics, an imprint designed to take over for Vertigo as the company's home of mature stories. Beginning with Brian Azzarello and Lee Bermejo's Batman Damned, the imprint has prioritized deep storytelling, beloved creative teams and genre diversity. Like many DC initiatives, the plurality of books released under the Black Label line have tied back to the world of Batman and Gotham, but some of the best stories had nothing to do with the Caped Crusader.

Black Label has offered readers everything from revivals of past series, continuations of old stories and entirely new universes centered around fantasy,...

DC Promises the "Scummiest Comic" of the Year, With the One Character Guaranteed to Deliver It
Image
Kyle Starks and Kyle Hotz's Lobo Cancelation Special #1 promises wild, irreverent humor and unapologetic antics. 2024 has already been a Huge year for the Main Man, and it seems it's only going to be getting bigger. Kyle Hotz's art has already made this comic a must-read for fans.

Warning: Comic Synopsis Contains Content That Some Readers May Find Offensive.

2024 has been a Huge year for DC's Lobo, who has come in swinging into main continuity like a wrecking ball. The bounty hunter for hire notably starred in the Superman story arc, House of Brainiac, and the three-part Green Lantern story arc, Guy's Bogus Lobo Adventure. Despite both storylines having concluded in June, DC is far from finished with Lobo and promises to bring him back for his own scummy special.

What's even more indicative of the comic's content is the tongue-in-cheek warning that parents may not want their children to read it.

Rick and Morty: 10 Funniest Pop Culture Parodies That Weren't on TV

"Rick and Morty Vol. 2 #8 introduces hilarious pop culture parody of Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles with Kung Fu Godhood Stink-Stink Otters." "Rick and Morty's version of Dilbert in Council of Ricks #1 is demented and twisted, a Dilbert cartoon on acid." "Rick and Morty #23 features comical 'Terminators' as literal toasters, a hilarious parody of The Terminator franchise."

Rick and Morty is famous for its pop culture references and parodies, with at least one in almost every episode of the Adult Swim animated series. However, with how expansive Rick and Morty’s continuity has become - with adaptations/continuations in comics, anime specials, and video games - fans of the cartoon are only seeing a small portion of Rick and Morty’s hilarious parodies.

In fact, most of the cleverest and really on-the-nose pop culture parodies don’t even exist in the animated show, but rather the hit comic series published by Oni Press.

Marvel Unleashed Mixes Avengers Heroics with the Incredible Journey: Review
Image
Warning: Contains spoilers for Marvel Unleashed #1!The new limited series Marvel Unleashed mixes high-octane, Avengers-style action with The Incredible Journey, creating one of the most entertaining, and poignant, reads of the year. Marvel Unleashed stars the fan-favorite Pet Avengers, including Pizza Dog, Bats, Lockjaw and other classic Marvel animal companions, bringing them together against not only Kraven the Hunter, but an entirely new threat as well, one involving the sinister Advanced Idea Mechanics.

The concept of a superhero having an animal sidekick stretches back to the beginnings of the genre; for example, the Golden Age Doctor Mid-Nite had Hootie, an owl who accompanied him on adventures. This concept was taken a step further in the Silver Age, with the introductions of Krypto the Super-Dog and Ace the Bat-Hound; these animal companions were more direct mirrors of their humans, and in some cases had their powers as well. In the modern era,...

Smith has also received his own limited series under DC Comics' mature-only Black Label imprint. Peacemaker Tries Hard! by Kyle Starks and Steve Pugh sees Christopher take on the DC Universe in order to get his newly adopted dog back. Peacemaker's New Pet Has the Perfect Name (Better Than Eagly)
Image
Warning! Spoilers ahead for Peacemaker Tries Hard #1!The latest animal companion for Peacemaker has a much better name than the hero's avian sidekick Eagly. Christopher Smith's new dog completely changes the world for the hyper-violent crusader for peace.

Peacemaker might not be as well-known as the A-Listers of the DC Universe, but he's experienced a wave of popularity thanks to his onscreen portrayal by John Cena in The Suicide Squad and its follow-up series, Peacemaker. The latter expanded on Smith's lore and introduced a brand-new sidekick for Peacemaker, Eagly, a bald eagle. Despite not having the most creative name, Eagly was presented as Christopher's loyal assistant who could aid the hero in taking down resilient baddies. Peacemaker's bald eagle friend even made the jump to comics in 2022's Strange Love Adventures, which officially canonized the bird in the DC Universe.

Thanos Confirms One Infinity Snap Fact Everyone Gets Wrong
Image
The biggest, most infamous moment in Thanos' bloody history, the "snap" that erased half of life in the universe, never actually happened. In the original Infinity Gauntlet saga, Thanos' genocidal actions were reversed after his daughter Nebula got hold of the Gauntlet and brought back time by 24 hours, nullifying Thanos' snap. This also means that, in the entire universe, only a few species are aware of what Thanos did.

Thanos is Marvel's most iconic villain. Over decades of dishonorable career, the Mad Titan has accomplished so many nefarious deeds that it's hard to decide what was his greatest success. However, despite everything that the villain has accomplished since, Thanos will always be most remembered for killing half the universe with a simple snap of his fingers. During Infinity Gauntlet, by Jim Starlin, Ron Lim, and Josef Rubinstein, Thanos used the assembled might of the Infinity Stones to perform the only...
