Harley Quinn Season 5, Episode 1 Review: Brainiac's Debut Promises To Give DC's Animated Series A Much-Needed Boost
Image
Warning: This article contains Spoilers for Harley Quinn season 5, episode 1Harley Quinn season 5 might not have been talked about much before its release due to the focus on James Gunn's DC Universe, but I have to say it will likely turn heads. I'm a fan of the show and the expanded universe it has created, which now includes a Kite Man spinoff series. That kind of worldbuilding, presenting a lived-in world from the start full of established heroes and villains, is exactly what Gunn is going for with the Dcu, and Harley Quinn could teach the franchise some lessons.

Harley Quinn is a 2019 film focusing on the titular character's evolution after severing ties with the Joker. As she seeks to establish herself as an independent force in Gotham City's criminal underworld, the film explores her journey toward becoming Gotham's criminal Queenpin.

‘Barry’ final season: Why NoHo Hank deserves a happy ending
Image
Anyone who watches HBO’s “Barry” knows one thing to be true. Pretty much everyone on the show behaves despicably with the exception of one person: NoHo Hank. That’s right; everyone’s favorite Chechen mobster, played by the invaluable Anthony Carrigan, has become the heart of television’s darkest comedy. So with the Emmy-winning series’s final season airing in this spring, let’s take a moment to ponder what is in store for the incessantly upbeat crime boss.

SEETeaser for Olivia Colman’s chilling ‘Great Expectations’ performance has Emmy written all over it [Watch]

First, a little refresher. The third season of “Barry” firmly established Hank as Barry’s (Bill Hader) conscience, odd considering that Hank has tried to kill Barry on more than one occasion. In a staggering turnaround, it is Barry who looks to Hank for guidance and stability, even going to Hank for help with his...

How ‘Harley Quinn’ Transformed the Joker From the World’s Worst Ex to a Socialist Stepfather
Image
Spoiler Alert: Do not read if you haven’t watched “Joker: The Killing Vote,” Episode 6 of “Harley Quinn” Season 3, now streaming on HBO Max.

Like all comic book characters, the Joker has been the subject many diverse interpretations throughout the years, from Cesar Romero’s prank-loving ’60s clown to Mark Hamill’s gleefully maniacal criminal mastermind in the ’90s animated series. But in recent years, the character has been depicted almost exclusively in one light: dark, grim and dangerous.

In Heath Ledger’s acclaimed turn as a scarred version of the character, Jared Leto’s divisive portrayal of a tatted up clown prince of crime and Joaquin Phoenix’s highly physical performance as an ordinary man turning into the Joker, Batman’s most famous nemesis has rarely been allowed to be lighthearted of late, with writers emphasizing his darkest and most murderous tendencies. While some exceptions exist — including the Joker...

The ‘Barry’ Season 3 Finale Was Dark as Hell — and Showed the Series at Its Best
Image
This post contains spoilers for the third season finale of Barry, which is available now on HBO and HBO Max.

The Barry Season Three finale, “Starting now,” takes its title from a running gag in the Season One finale, where hitman/actor Barry (Bill Hader) kept insisting that he was going to live a violence-free life from that moment onward, only for more opportunities for murder to come up, most notably when he chose to kill cop Janice Moss after she figured out about his day job. When Barry said “Starting…...

Mockumentary Cooking Series ‘Gods of Food’ To Debut On CollegeHumor’s Dropout In August
A new mockumentary culinary series titled Gods of Food is set to premiere on subscription-based streaming service Dropout by CollegeHumor next month, the streamer announced today.

The six-episode season will skewer a range of fine dining tropes, that are all too familiar to fans of cooking shows.

The series was created and written by CollegeHumor cast member and head writer Rekha Shankar, who also serves as an executive producer.

“Cooking shows are one of my favorite things to watch,” said Shankar. “But while the most gorgeous food shows are full of love and passion, they can also be full of dysfunctional personalities and bizarre ideas. I hope Gods of Food resonates with foodies like me in that it’s full of beautiful food, but also pokes fun at some of the tendencies of culinary shows.”

The show stars Don Fanelli (Nightcap) as Anthony D’Anthony, Krizia Bajos (The Casagrandes) as Julia Splenderpoot,...
