Since releasing the fun-on-treadmills-on-a-budget clip for their punchy song “Here It Goes Again” nearly two decades ago, the Los Angeles-via-Chicago band Ok Go has become as known for its visual offerings as it has for its music. But when you strip away the Rube Goldberg machines, trompe l’oeil trickery, and cameos from The Muppets, a solid power-pop band emerges. The Hollywood Music in Media Awards (Hmma) today announced the 2023 nominees for scores and songs in film and other visual media categories. The awards will be presented Wednesday, November 15, 2023 at 8:00 p.m. (Pst) at The Avalon, 1735 Vine Street, in Hollywood, CA.

Song nominees include Oscar-winners Billie Eilish and Finneas for “What Was I Made For?” from Barbie, Olivia Rodrigo and Dan Nigro for “Can’t Catch Me Now” from Hunger Games: The Ballard of Songbirds & Snakes. Justin Timberlake, Alan Menken, Lin-Manuel Miranda, Lenny Kravitz, Diane Warren, Metro Boomin, and A$AP Rocky also received nods for their original songs in films.

Composers nominated include Alexandre Desplat, Michael Giacchino, Ludwig Göransson, Laura Karpman, Branford Marsalis, Thomas Newman, James Newton Howard, Daniel Pemberton, John Powell, Trent Reznor & Atticus Ross, Robbie Robertson, Mark Ronson & Andrew Wyatt, Hans Zimmer (The Creator), among many others.

The premise is silly: stunted artist who’s never finished a project in his life finds inspiration through cardboard boxes and their ability to be molded into a literal labyrinth he’s already erected virtually inside his mind to ensure he will never fail (or succeed) since such a final verdict only comes with completion. So bogged down in existential dread—and made to endure it while girlfriend Annie (Meera Rohit Kumbhani) is out-of-town for a much-needed reprieve from his slacker-infused excuses—Dave (Nick Thune) allows its weight to force him into an abyss of despair he cannot escape alone. The only avenue towards freedom is ultimately found by going farther inward. Dave must finish something, everything … anything. He must commit to the work, to Annie, and to himself.

While that all sounds like some crazy on-the-nose metaphor performed through imaginative dream, you’re only going to find yourself half right.

Directed by Bill Watterson, Dave Made a Maze follows Dave, an artist who has yet to complete anything significant in his career. He builds a fort in his living room out of pure frustration, only to wind up trapped by the fantastical pitfalls, booby traps, and critters of his own creation. Ignoring his warnings, Dave’s girlfriend Annie leads a band of oddball explorers on a rescue mission. Once inside, they find themselves caught in an ever-changing supernatural world, threatened by booby traps and pursued by a bloodthirsty Minotaur.

Ok Go is an American alternative rock band originally from Chicago, Illinois, but now based in Los Angeles, California. The band is composed of Damian Kulash, Tim Nordwind, Dan Konopka and Andy Ross, who joined them in 2005, replacing Andy Duncan.

One Direction set the bar pretty high with their filmed-at-nasa "Drag Me Down" music video, but Ok Go's raised it even further. The alternative rock group released their new, zero gravity music video for "Upside Down & Inside Out" Thursday via Facebook, and this foursome took full advantage of their outer space-esque environment. Pyyramids, the musical project of Tim Nordwind (Ok Go) and Drea Smith (Say/She), recently released a few tracks as a preview to their forthcoming album Brightest Darkest Day. The full-length effort is set for release on April 9. Gearing up for the release, the pair recorded a few stripped-down acoustic videos of their tracks. Last year, the smoky electro-pop duo Pyyramids released the fine six-song Ep Human Beings, a hooky record with darkness and mystery on the margins. It was a nice change of pace for Ok Go bassist Tim Nordwind, who teamed up with singer Drea Smith for the project. In the group's new video for "Don't Go," Pyyramids decide to get cute via a standout performance by a little girl who injects some theatrical sass into the proceedings. By now, thanks to their interpretive dance moves, treadmill heroics and Rube Goldberg machines, Ok Go have basically become the premiere purveyors of gleefully ingenious, adorably low-budget music video magic.

Which is just part of the reason why their latest endeavor — leading an impromptu parade through the streets of Los Angeles for no particular reason — also proved to be their most challenging: Seems no matter how they figured it, they just didn't have the cash to make it happen.

"We have wanted to have a big street parade for a long time," Ok Go frontman Damian Kulash told MTV News.

Fans and friends joined Ok Go on Wednesday for a very unique video shoot up and down the streets of Los Angeles. Known for their outrageous and high-concept videos, the band announced a "parade" on their website earlier in the week.

Ok Go and their posse spent most of Wednesday afternoon and evening "taking the rock to the streets" as they played music with the crowd on a parade around Los Angeles. Cameras followed the swarm of people all day, many of whom were equipped with noisemakers, megaphones and even some neon instruments. The street path they followed spelled out "Ok Go" and, as they described on their website, the band aimed to create a "city-sized drawing" of the band name by...

In 2006, the band Ok Go released a video for their hit song “Here It Goes Again” featuring an elaborately choreographed dance on treadmills directed and choreographed by Trish Sie. As of this printing, the original video upload for “Here It Goes Again” has been viewed over 50 million times on YouTube.

Their latest video, White Knuckles, raised money for animal shelters in America.

The band is composed of Damian Kulash (lead vocals and guitar), Tim Nordwind (bass guitar and vocals), Dan Konopka (drums and percussion) and Andy Ross (guitar, keyboards and vocals).

The guys in Ok Go are obviously not tech-heads. Rather thango the usual route of overblown visual effects for their music videos, they arefamous for simple, one-take masterpieces that rely entirely on performance.

They’re best known for their Grammy award winning short-form music video for“Here It Goes Again.” The YouTube sensation featured the dorky looking dudesperforming a flawless dance routine on treadmills.

Since then they’ve been human statues amidst a game of mousetrap and performed with a marching band in two different vids for the song“This too Shall Pass.” They did a stop-motion routine in pastel tracksuits in“End Love” and allowed themselves to blend into the wallpaper in “Do What You Want.”

This morning, MTV News' James Montgomery produced his annual list of the best albums of the first half of the year. It's a largely excellent list that shouts out some incredible albums, including the National's dark and brooding High Violet, Against Me!'s loud, rugged White Crosses and Titus Andronicus' raucous (and underrated) concept album The Monitor. Obviously, there are a number of albums that could have made their way onto the list (there are certainly cases to be made for Eminem's chart-topping Recovery, Drake's revolutionary Thank Me Later and Eels' quietly brilliant End Times), but the biggest oversight happens to be what is (in my opinion at least) the best album of the year: Ok Go's Of the Blue Colour of the Sky.

By now, you undoubtedly know of Ok Go, also known as "That Band That Did that Treadmill Video" or more recently "That Band that did the Rube Goldberg Video." Ok Go is probably more well-known for their bouncy and well-choreographed stunt music videos than their music. In other words, they're the modern equivalent of the Monkees.

Now that Muse is no longer a potential contributor for The Twilight Saga: Eclipse's soundtrack (the blasphemy of it still stings a bit, eh?), one has to wonder what other groups (or singers) will be considered for a place on the album.
