‘Good Cop/Bad Cop’ Gets Prime Video Run In U.S. Streaming Deal For The CW & Stan Series
Image
Exclusive: Prime Video will play Good Cop/Bad Cop. The Amazon streamer has taken the comedic crime procedural for the U.S. where it is already available on The CW broadcast network and Roku. All eight episodes from Season 1 launch on Prime Video on July 11.

Amid talk of a sophomore run, the team behind the show hopes the additional exposure will put wind in its sails for a second season order.

Luke Cook and Leighton Meester star in Good Cop/Bad Cop, which was created by John Quaintance and is produced by former NBCU exec Jeff Wachtel’s Future Shack. Cook, Quaintance and Wachtel were on hand recently at the Monte-Carlo TV Festival to talk about the series, which, outside the U.S., is for Australian streamer Stan.

Deadline asked the team whether there is a second season coming and Quaintance, producer of shows including Will & Grace, said. “We’re still trying to make that happen.

‘Hacks’ Is So Good It Can Even Make Late-Night TV Seem Alive Again
Image
It’s only been a few days since Taylor Tomlinson ended her run as the only woman in late-night TV to host her own show solo. And it wasn’t because After Midnight, the show she had hosted on CBS, wasn’t successful: It had just been renewed for a third season earlier this month. But Tomlinson had been open all along about needing to be convinced to do the show, which she recently said would never be her “thing thing.” So when she decided she didn’t want to go to an office three days a week anymore — and CBS, presumably, didn’t throw enough money at her to make that more appealing than doing stand-up on the road — Tomlinson quit After Midnight, and CBS announced that it wouldn’t replace her. Instead, it would end After Midnight and stop trying to program the 12:30 a.m. time slot entirely.

‘Good Cop/Bad Cop’ Is Better Than It Should Be
Image
When first confronted with the notion of “Good Cop/Bad Cop,” my screen-addled brain sputtered to a halt. Surely, this couldn’t be a real television series. It checks out that a show with a forward-slash in the title is available to stream internationally on something called Stan., an Australian streaming service — which, yes, includes the period as part of its name — but it’s also been picked up in America on The CW? Are you sure? Did you check the one true source for release confirmations — the Metacritic TV premiere calendar? Isn’t it more likely the police procedural about a brother/sister detective duo working for their dad/chief in a small Washington town was actually an old “30 Rock” joke — something that’s only stolen my attention today because Tina Fey’s prescient sitcom once again aligned with current events and took over social media?

But no. While...

‘Good Cop/Bad Cop’ Review: Leighton Meester Headlines The CW’s Charmingly Breezy Police Procedural
Image
Early in The CW’s Good Cop/Bad Cop, police chief Hank Hickman (Clancy Brown) and his daughter, detective Lou (Leighton Meester), have a disagreement about what the department’s top priority ought to be. She, reasonably, believes it should be protecting the community by investigating crimes. Hank, however, has other ideas.

“The country is falling apart. People need a place where they feel safe,” he says. To him, what matters is that they’re able to make the community think they’re secure: “Belief is the most important thing we can give them.” And while Lou is correct in every practical real-world sense, it’s Hank who has his own series exactly right.

The country does seem like it’s falling apart. We do need a place to feel safe. And a thoroughly charming procedural on The CW might be as good a way as any to indulge in that fantasy — even if it is,...

“Salem’s Lot” Will Skip Theaters to Stream Exclusively

Follow Her Review: A Solid Commentary on Social Media Content Creation
Image
With the rise in popularity of social media content videos on platforms like TikTok, Instagram, and OnlyFans, the dangers of privacy intrusion, for both the content creators and those that appear in the content, has skyrocketed over the last few years. Video content that has only lasted a few seconds or minutes, has upended people's lives, and in extreme cases, has resulted in things like job losses and death threats.

Sylvia Caminer (An Affair of the Heart) shines a spotlight on these dangerous themes in her new movie Follow Her, which is written by Dani Barker, who also plays the lead role of Jess. Aside from Barker, the film stars Luke Cook (Chilling Adventures of Sabrina), Eliana Jones (Hemlock Grove), Mark Moses (Platoon), and Cristala Carter (Pretty Little Liars: Original Sin).

Once there, the alluring self-proclaimed screenwriter hands her a script in which the two of them are the main characters. This client isn’t what he seems, and even though the money’s great.

Exclusive: Follow Her Director and Cast Unpack the Thriller’s Wildly Intimate Scenes
Image
There’s nothing like having somebody shove a foot in your mouth for a sensual scene on the first day of filming a sexually charged thriller. Follow along, because Follow Her has fascinating behind-the-scenes fodder.

“The first day we [co-star/writer Dani Barker] came on to set, we had to shoot the sexual scene first,” admitted Luke Cook, who plays Tom in the film, an attractive and mysterious man who hires financially strapped livestreamer Jess (Barker) to help him finish writing a screenplay. “Dani puts her foot in my mouth, and we — Dani and I — had just met in real life, so that was incredibly intense for me. For some reason, and I'm not a prude, I was like, ‘I'm not ready for this. I don't want to do this now. I want to get to know Dani a little bit, and maybe we can ease into that later.’”

Follow Her: Plot, Cast, Release Date, and Everything Else We Know
Image
Would it be wrong to suggest that live streamers are starting to overtake traditional media? They've been the subject of brand deals, boxing matches, guest appearances, and even outside their penetration into other forms of media, their devoted audiences can't seem to get enough of these internet personalities. In fact, some would argue that the kind of parasocial relationships formed as a result of this intense attachment may even be inherently harmful. But, an upcoming psycho-sexual thriller from Quiver will focus on the opposite end of how live-streaming impacts others and how the pursuit of views may ultimately lead to one's demise.

Follow Her is one of multiple tense films focusing on internet personalities, but whereas others see them entering haunted houses or taking on dangerously stupid challenges, this tense thriller will do something particularly unique. Tackling the topic of ethics in live-streaming, a live streamer working under false pretenses...
