WWE has an array of remarkable talent in its pool of in-ring athletes who put their bodies on the line for the entertainment of fans each week on live television. One of those veterans who is still a part of the active roster and has been captivating the audience with his personality is R-Truth.

The man who says ‘What’s Up’ is a popular and comedic attraction known for his unorthodox antics and fun encounters. Moreover, despite being 53 years old, he is still wrestling in the prime of his career. Interestingly, R-Truth made his debut when some of the WWE superstars of today’s generation were not even born.

2015’s ‘The Unspoken’ Has a Secret ‘Amityville’ Connection [The Amityville IP]
Image
For more than two years, Joe Lipsett has dissected Amityville Horror films to explore how the “franchise” has evolved in increasingly ludicrous directions. This is “The Amityville IP.”

I have no recollection of The Unspoken. Canadian writer/director Sheldon Wilson’s film apparently played at Fright Fest in 2015 before getting a day and date theatrical/VOD release in October 2016, followed by a DVD release from Anchor Bay that December.

Reviews were middling with most critics decrying the film’s reliance on ghostly figures and jump scares, lamenting its lack of scariness (an extremely subjective criticism) and protesting its “complicated” story.

So why is the film a topic of conversation for this editorial? Because The Unspoken is a secret Amityville prequel.

Okay, yes, it’s literally only revealed in the film’s closing scene when the film’s antagonists, single mom Jeanie (Pascale Hutton) and her mute son Adrian (Sunny Suljic...

Olivia Rodrigo and The 1975 to Headline Glastonbury 2025
Image
Olivia Rodrigo and The 1975 are set to headline Glastonbury 2025.

Matty Healy and his band will take to the Pyramid stage Friday as the Guts singer performs the Sunday slot at the U.K.’s biggest music festival, running June 25-29 at Worthy Farm, Somerset.

Neil Young, Charli Xcx, Noah Kahan, The Prodigy, Raye, Loyle Carner, Gracie Abrams and more have also been confirmed to perform, alongside the previously announced Rod Stewart, who has nabbed the fest’s Legends slot.

It will be a first Glastonbury headline performance for Rodrigo and The 1975. The American singer shot to stardom with her debut album Sour, known for songs “Drivers License,” “Good 4 U” and “Deja Vu,” later achieving more success with her second album, Guts.

The 1975, fronted by Healy, are a British pop rock band from Cheshire who will no doubt understand the significance of playing Glastonbury. Their most popular hits include “Somebody Else,...

‘WWE Royal Rumble 2024’ PPV Review
Image
Welcome to this review of the Royal Rumble 2025, right here on Nerdly. I’m Phil Wheat and we have not only Two Rumble matches to look forward to but also two title matches! Let’s get into it.

Match #1: Women’s Royal Rumble – Winner: Charlotte Flair The following is courtesy of wwe.com:

Charlotte Flair won the 2025 Women’s Royal Rumble in her grand return to WWE, last eliminating Roxanne Perez to seal the victory. The match began with two former Women’s World Champions, as Iyo Sky entered at the unenviable No. 1 spot, with Liv Morgan entering at the equally unlucky No. 2, setting up an early showdown between two of WWE’s best. The ring quickly filled up as Nxt’s Roxanne Perez (No. 3), Women’s Intercontinental Champion Lyra Valkyria (No. 4) and Women’s United States Champion Chelsea Green (No. 5) all entered the fray, only for the four...

Sonic The Hedgehog 3 Soundtrack Guide: Every Song & When They Play
Image
The following contains spoilers for Sonic the Hedgehog 3, now playing in theatersSonic The Hedgehog 3's soundtrack is a mix of fun rock, new tracks, and deep-cuts to the history of game franchise. Sonic The Hedgehog 3 is in many ways a love letter to the game series, especially Sonic Adventure 2. There are lots of little references to the history of the games found throughout the film, ranging from little easter eggs to instrumental themes. This element can also be felt throughout the film's music choices, which perfectly fit Sonic the Hedgehog 3's cast of characters and help lighten up some of the film's darker moments.

Although a formal soundtrack for the film hasn't been released yet, there are many clear song choices made throughout the movie. The best of these embody the spirit of the original games and fit neatly into the film, with one fan-favorite song from...

Stars: Peter Mooney, Amanda Tapping, Cara Gee, Sydney Sabiston, Jade Ma, Aaron Abrams, David Hewlett | Written and Directed by Adam Stern

It’s a seemingly normal morning for Joe, his digital assistant Mel wakes him up after preparing his condo for him. It also tells him his girlfriend Ash wants to meet him for coffee, something that spurs a flashback to their first meeting. He tells Mel to send Maxine a message that she’ll be running the store until he arrives and sets out to meet Ash.

When she arrives, Ash is noticeably nervous and says she has to tell him something. She says she loves him and manages to get as far as saying that she’s not from here before a man walks up and shoots her in the head. Joe chases him, but he seems to disappear in a dead-end alley.

WWE Nxt Women’s Champ Roxanne Perez on ‘No Mercy’ & Learning From Cm Punk
Image
Roxanne Perez has done more at age 22 in WWE than some may do their entire career. “The Prodigy” currently reigns as the WWE Nxt women’s champion. It has been an impressive run for Perez who successfully held on to the gold against the likes of Chelsea Green, Natalya, Lola Vice, Lyra Valkyria, and even Tna’s own Jordynne Grace. Confidence continues to grow for the impressive talent with each outing as the brand’s show gears up for its move to The CW on October 1. Perez hopes to be the champ for the milestone event. Jaida Parker stands in her way from making that happen. The emerging superstar looks to take the title at No Mercy on September 1. Here Perez gives her thoughts on Parker, learning under Cm Punk and wanting to build a legacy. Who are you channeling when you are playing this villainous character on TV? Roxanne Perez: So many people.

‘WWE Nxt’ Review (Apr 23rd 2024)
Image
Welcome to this week’s review of Nxt, right here on Nerdly. We’ve got week one of the Spring Breakin’ special(s), so let’s get straight into it and see what went down in this episode…

Match #1: Nxt Women’s Champion Triple Threat Match – Roxanne Perez def. Lyra Valkyria and Tatum Paxley The following is courtesy of wwe.com:

The Nxt Women’s Championship remains with “The Prodigy” Roxanne Perez as the champion retained her title in impressive fashion against both Lyra Valkyria and Tatum Paxley in a Triple Threat Match. The bad blood between former friends Valkyria and Paxley sparked a major battle between the two to begin the match, all while the champion looked on and smiled. Once Perez entered the fray, the action became chaotic as all three Superstars threw caution to the wind, punctuated by the demented Paxley tossing both of her opponents hard to the ringside area.

‘WWE Nxt’ Review (Feb 27th 2024)
Image
Welcome to this week’s review of Nxt, right here on Nerdly. Let’s get straight into it and see what went down in this episode…

Match #1: Kiana James def. Kelani Jordan The following is courtesy of wwe.com:

Kiana James is running roughshod over the Nxt women’s division with Kelani Jordan being her latest victim inside the ring. Jordan was unfazed by the experience of James and the threat of Izzi Dame on the outside as she even hit a picture-perfect moonsault to the outside to take them both out. The numbers game proved to be too much for James to overcome as Dame knocked her off the apron when the referee was distracted, allowing James to hit Dealbreaker and pick up the win.

My Score: 2.5 out of 5 Match #2: Luke Gallows & Karl Anderson def. Edris Enofè & Malik Blade The following is courtesy of wwe.com:

‘WWE Nxt’ Review (Feb 6th 2024)

Welcome to this week’s review of Nxt, right here on Nerdly. Let’s get straight into it and see what went down in this episode…

Match #1: Axiom & Nathan Frazer def. Edris Enofé & Malik Blade The following is courtesy of wwe.com:

Even though the Dusty Rhodes Tag Team Classic has concluded, Axiom and Nathan Frazer are still teaming together and picked up a big win over Edris Enofé and Malik Blade. The action was fast and furious as all four Superstars showed off their incredible athleticism, punctuated by a Spanish Fly/Phoenix Splash combo from Axiom and Frazer. After Blade wiped out on the outside, Enofé was left all alone in the ring where Frazer hit another Phoenix Splash followed by a Golden Ratio from Axiom to give them the win.

My Score: 4 out of 5 Match #2: Lexis King def. Riley Osborne The following is courtesy of wwe.

The Prodigy Change Lyrics to “Smack My Bitch Up” During London Performances
Image
The Prodigy changed up the controversial lyrics in their song “Smack My Bitch Up” during a pair of recent performances in London.

Footage captured during their concerts at Alexandra Palace on November 24th and November 25th shows vocalist Maxim repeating the opening lyric, “Change my pitch up,” instead of going into the original second line, “Smack my bitch up.”

The band has yet to comment publicly on the lyric change. Check out fan-shot footage below.

It’s worth noting that the lines, “Change my pitch up/ Smack my bitch up” are directly sampled from the 1988 song “Give the Drummer Some” by Ultramagnetic Mc’s. First appearing on The Prodigy’s 1997 breakout album, The Fat of the Land, “Smack My Bitch Up” has been a source of controversy since its release.

In addition to receiving backlash from artists including Tori Amos and Beastie Boys, the track was denounced by the National...

Why ‘Backspot’ Director D.W. Waterson Crafted the Queer Cheer Drama Like a ‘Gritty Football Movie’ (Exclusive Clip)
Image
For years, D.W. Waterson’s go-to performance look for their DJ sets was a purple cheerleading uniform.

“For some reason, it just really gets the audience going,” Waterson tells Variety. “Cheerleaders are hype men — they’re the best people to get people excited.”

Waterson didn’t know too much about cheer itself, but they found that wearing the outfit — combined with growing up in a sports-heavy household — made them want to dive deeper into the world of cheer. “There’s a sense of cheerleaders being misrepresented that made me really curious,” Waterson says.

After creating and directing the award-winning web series “That’s My DJ,” Waterson had been searching for the right story for their feature-length debut — and found that there was a rather large gap in the oeuvre of films about cheerleading.

“Seeing what’s expected from these young girls when you’re throwing bodies super high in the...

Q&a: Composer Charlie Clouser Dives into the Musical Landscape of Spiral and Saw Franchise
Image
Spiral: From the Book of Saw marks Charlie Clouser’s ninth film in the franchise and it's very apparent from the following Q&a that the original Nine Inch Nails member would love to score nine more. The tone and vibe around the Saw franchise is one that he loves and excels at, and with the Spiral original score now available, we've been provided with the following Q&a where he discusses keeping the sound of "Saw" fresh in the latest installment, working with Darren Lynn Bousman, and more:

Was the transition from Nine Inch Nails to film scoring a hard one for you? If you would have not gotten into film scoring, what do you think you would have done?

Even before I got involved with Nine Inch Nails, I had worked for a few years with a composer who was scoring a big TV network detective series in the 1980’s,...

Keith Flint
Keith Flint Dies: Singer & Frontman Of Controversial Band The Prodigy Was 49
Keith Flint
Keith Flint, the double-mohawked lead singer and founding member of the controversial British rave band The Prodigy, was found dead in Essex, England, today, his death apparently by suicide. He was 49.

“The news is true,” wrote Prodigy co-founder Liam Howlett on The Prodigy’s Instagram page today. “I can’t believe I’m saying this but our brother Keith took his own life over the weekend. I’m shell shocked, f*ckin angry, confused and heart broken ….. r.i.p brother.”

After shooting to U.K. notoriety in 1996 with its BBC-banned video for hit “Firestarter,” The Prodigy rose to greater fame the following year with its third album The Fat of the Land, which rose to the top of the charts in both the United States and the UK largely on the strength of the No. 1 hit single Breathe.

Another track from the album drew even greater attention: “Smack...

"They have to import them from Scotland," Jonny Lee Miller adds, at which point McGregor's stone-faced look begins to crack a bit.

"Scottish sausage!" Ewan Bremner chimes in, chuckling. "It's where the term comes from.

Diablo Cody is developing a new show about a troubled teen girl for Fox
Fox is developing a new smart, sassy teen girl drama with Diablo Cody and Gossip Girl producers Stephanie Savage and Josh Schwartz. Diablo Cody and O.C. Producers Team Up for Teen Drama
The Prodigy
Fox is developing Prodigy, a show about a 16-year-old home-schooled genius who enrolls in her local high school so she can experience a "normal" teen life and "finds herself adopted by a wild crowd, getting caught up in a whirlwind of romance and crime," The Hollywood Reporter reports. Diablo Cody is writing the script, and The O.C.'s Josh Schwartz and Stephanie Savage are set to produce it. Schwartz and Savage also had a hand in Gossip Girl, which premiered the same year (2007) as Cody's Juno was released, so this is a group that definitely knows how to work the clever teen angle — or at least they did in the mid-aughts. Now we'll just have to see if they remain hip to what the kids are up to.
