The Supreme Court ruled on Friday that lower federal courts should not have the power to issue nationwide injunctions blocking presidential orders — no matter how obviously unconstitutional such an order may be.
The decision is a monumental gift to Donald Trump’s administration, which is seeking to implement much of its anti-immigration and other policy priorities through executive orders. The ruling was 6-3, with the court’s six conservative justices opting to restrict the power of the lower courts.

Rep. Nancy Mace (R-South Carolina) introduced a bill last week to defund “sanctuary cities.” She introduced the bill in response to the anti-immigration protests in Los Angeles.
Since June 6, riots, which started as anti-immigration enforcement protests, included many L.A. rioters who wore face masks, waved foreign flags, set cars on fire, threw bricks at police and federal officers, as well as confronted the authorities, defaced property, obstructed traffic and advocated civil unrest.
The protests were a response to federal raids against illegal migrants in L.A.
In response, Trump deployed 4,000 National Guard troops. He also sent over more than 700 United States Marines despite Gov. Gavin Newsom’s (D-California) objections.
According to a press release, Mace and Rep. Brandon Gill (R-Texas) introduced the Lawless Cities Accountability Act, a bill designed to “pull every last federal dollar from cities who choose mob rule over law and order.”

Among the weighty roles and responsibilities placed on the American president’s shoulders, the least controversial is the practice of calling other politicians, in the face of personal or public tragedy, to make sure that they have everything they need. If a president wants to go above and beyond that lowest of bars, they offer condolences, and act like a human instead of a partisan hack.

A lawyer for Donald Trump’s Justice Department recently argued in court that sometimes the president just says stuff — and it doesn’t matter if what Trump says is or isn’t accurate, because his comments aren’t necessarily reflective of the government’s position on a given matter.
During an April 30 court hearing related to the government’s unlawful imprisonment of Kilmar Abrego Garcia in El Salvador, Judge Paula Xinis asked attorneys representing the Trump administration why they were saying they had no ability to facilitate Abrego Garcia’s return to the U.

Donald J. Trump made his first formal appearance at the Kennedy Center since returning to office, attending the official opening of Les Misérables on Wednesday evening. See video from inside the auditorium below. Trump arrived in full tuxedo alongside First Lady Melania Trump, Vice President Jd Vance and his wife Usha, Attorney General Pam Bondi, and newly installed Kennedy Center board members Maria Bartiromo and Laura Ingraham. Ric Grenell, the president’s handpicked interim head of the Center, was also on site. Audience reactions to Trump’s arrival were mixed, with cheers, boos, and a chant of “USA!” all echoed through the lobby as patrons passed through enhanced security screenings. Donald Trump, walking the red carpet Wednesday for the opening-night performance of Les Misérables at the Kennedy Center, again insisted that were it not for his federalizing of the National Guard, “Los Angeles right now, if we didn’t do what we did, would be burning to the ground.”
“These are radical left lunatics that you’re dealing with, and they’re tough, they’re smart, they probably have paid, many of them as you know. They’re professionals,” Trump told reporters. “… They’re chopping up concrete and using it as a weapon. That’s pretty bad.”
California Governor Gavin Newsom opposed the National Guard order, and in a Tuesday evening speech said that Trump has only inflamed the situation.
The evening was Trump’s first visit to a Kennedy Center performance of this term, and the first since he engineered a takeover the the arts institution just weeks after returning to the White House.

The House reconciliation bill — officially known as the One Big Beautiful Bill Act — is extraordinary in how much it robs from the poor to boost the rich. Its tax cuts for the wealthy are financed by cuts to health care coverage (both in Medicaid and Obamacare) that will help Republicans swell the ranks of the uninsured by 16 million, according to the Congressional Budget Office.
But the Big Beautiful Bill is not just an ugly tax bill where society’s less fortunate are made to sacrifice for the benefit of the wealthiest.

Joe Rogan and FBI Director Kash Patel were left gobstruck Thursday as Elon Musk offloaded on Donald Trump with claims the one-time playboy real estate developer is in the Jeffrey Epstein files and that’s why they haven’t been released.

Up to this point in the nearly two-hour conversation between Rogan and Trump ultra-loyalist Patel, there didn’t seem to be any topic he wouldn’t address.

The war of words and tweets between Donald Trump and his top donor Elon Musk just went nuclear.
As the former Doge chief and Potus tossed slings and arrows at each other over the president’s “Big Beautiful Bill’s” effect on the federal deficit and whether the SpaceX owner put the Republican back in power, Musk dropped “the really big bomb.” After almost over a year connected to Trump at the hip, spending hundreds of millions on his 2024 campaign and charging through the federal government’s inner sanctums like a rabid bull in a China shop, Musk truly went full Little Boy and Fat Man.
Less than a week after he was literally tossed out of the White House with praise and a golden key, Musk today claimed Potus “is in the Epstein files.” With zero evidence, Musk added, “That is the real reason they have not been made public.

Update: Even with the devout Catholic that Joe Biden is, the former president isn’t taking Donald Trump’s new Department of Justice investigation into his cognitive state and command of the White House during his term by turning the other cheek.

President Donald Trump’s administration is ready to accept a $400 million “flying palace” Boeing 747-8 jumbo jet from Qatar’s royal family, which Trump will use as Air Force One.
The president will use the aircraft, which is reported to be the most luxurious private jet in the world, as a temporary presidential jet. At the same time, Boeing finishes the next-generation Air Force One fleet after years of delays and cost overruns. The jet would then be transferred to the Trump presidential library foundation when Trump leaves office.
In 2022, Trump’s plan to paint Air Force One red, white and blue was scrapped due to its $1.1 billion cost.
Trump, who earned the lowest approval rating of any president in the past eight decades at 100 days in office, could receive delivery of the plane soon.
On Sunday night, Trump confirmed in a Truth Social post that he would accept the plane.

The Tony Award nominations are out, but that isn’t the week’s most exciting theater headline. The big news: The entire run of Luigi: The Musical, a new comedy about Luigi Magione that’s premiering next month in San Francisco, is completely sold out, according to People.
Here’s the official synopsis from the production’s website: “Luigi: the Musical is a comedy that imagines the surreal scenario of Luigi Mangione, the man accused of killing UnitedHealthcare CEO Brian Thompson, sharing a prison with real-life inmates Sam Bankman-Fried and Sean ‘Diddy’ Combs.”
If that set-up sounds like opportunistic playwrights trying to cash in on multiple contemporary scandals, you wouldn’t be wrong. But as the show’s producers point out, the premise is also “rooted in a strange truth”: Mangione, Bankman-Fried and Diddy were all incarcerated in the same prison. Whoa!

During Donald Trump’s final weeks of his 2024 reelection campaign, he fantasized about “one really violent day” of policing as an answer to eradicating crime in America. Speaking to supporters gathered at the Bayfront Convention Center in Erie, Pennsylvania, in late September, Trump mused, “One rough hour — and I mean real rough — the word will get out and it will end immediately, you know?”
On Monday, as he prepared to celebrate his 100th day back in the White House, President Trump signed an executive order ramping up his efforts to...

Elon Musk once said he could save taxpayers $2 trillion by slashing away at government agencies with his so-called Department of Government Efficiency (Doge). Then it was $1 trillion. Most recently, he has revised that estimate significantly downward to $150 billion. And even if he could prove he has reduced the federal budget by that amount (which he hasn’t), it doesn’t account for the nearly equal wasteful expenditure that his rampage has incurred, including legal fees arising from hundreds of lawsuits against Doge.
But it seems that Musk, for all the...

President Donald Trump’s Justice Department removed protections for journalists in investigations into leaks, allowing the government greater power to demand information.
Attorney General Pam Bondi said in a memo circulated Friday that she will rescind policies established by the Biden administration preventing the Justice Department from seeking records or compelling testimony from journalists in order to investigate leaks. The memo was published by Politico.

The U.S. Attorney General on Friday rescinded a memo issued four years ago that limited the ability of the U.S. Department of Justice (DOJ) to target reporters during criminal and civil investigations.
The memo, issued by former Attorney General Merrick Garland in 2021, limited the seizure of documents from journalists and news organizations only to extreme cases where a reporter or employee of a news outlet was accused of a specific crime.
The directive followed numerous reports that the DOJ had subpoenaed the phone and e-mail records of reporters and news outlets when investigating the leak and subsequent publishing of classified materials or other records that were not intended for public view.
On Friday, Attorney General Pam Bondi said the leaking and publishing of classified materials “is illegal and wrong, and it must stop.”

Luigi Mangione pleaded not guilty to federal charges of murder, stalking, and firearms offenses on Friday afternoon in New York federal court. The night before, prosecutors filed formal notice to seek the death penalty for Mangione, who has been accused of killing UnitedHealthcare CEO Brian Thompson.
The filing claims Mangione “intentionally killed” Thompson to “amplify an ideological message, maximize the visibility and impact of the victim’s murder, and to provoke broad-based resistance to the victim’s industry.” Federal prosecutors also allege that Mangione “presents a future danger because he...

The FBI has arrested a judge in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, they have accused of obstructing the arrest of an undocumented migrant.
According to a now-deleted X post, FBI Director Kash Patel wrote that the FBI has arrested Milwaukee County Circuit Judge Hannah Dugan “after evidence of Judge Dugan obstructing an immigration arrest operation last week.”
“We believe Judge Dugan intentionally misdirected federal agents away from the subject to be arrested in her courthouse, Eduardo Flores Ruiz, allowing the subject — an illegal alien — to evade arrest,” Patel wrote, adding that Flores Ruiz had been arrested.

It took time, but President Donald Trump finally gave Josh Shapiro, the Governor of Pennsylvania, a call after his reported arson attack. Just four days ago, Good Morning America reported that he hadn’t yet picked up the phone to check on him. However, that changed over the weekend.
The Call Came Days After Arson Attack
Josh Shapiro’s arson attack happened in Harrisburg, and then the Democrat waited about a week for the president to call him up. Interestingly, when the call came, it was via cell phone and the governor didn’t recognise it. So, he didn’t take it straight away. According to NBC Philadelphia, Josh called the number back and they had an amicable discussion.

A federal grand jury in New York has indicted Luigi Mangione on two counts of stalking, a firearms offense, and murder via use of a firearm. The murder charge would make Mangione eligible for the death penalty if convicted.
Attorney General Pam Bondi directed prosecutors to seek the death penalty against Mangione earlier this month after the 26-year-old was charged with murdering United Healthcare CEO Brian Thompson in December. Mangione’s legal team, led by Karen Friedman Agnifilo, responded in a statement, calling the decision “barbaric.”

Pam Bondi, the attorney general of the United States, was asked what should have been a pretty simple question during a Fox News appearance on Monday night.
“Is that legal?” Jesse Watters wondered, referring to Donald Trump musing earlier in the day about sending “homegrown” American citizens to El Salvador. Doing so would be unequivocally illegal, and acknowledging as much is an extremely low bar for the nation’s top law enforcement official to clear.
She didn’t clear it.

CNN anchor Dana Bash interrupted live coverage of Donald Trump to refute his claims that the network’s journalists at CNN “hate our country.”
Trump’s Oval Office appearance on Monday saw him attack CNN reporter Kaitlan Collins during an exchange regarding Kilmer Abrego Garcia – an El Salvadorian man who was wrongfully deported from the US and is still being held in an El Salvadorian prison, despite court orders for him to be returned.
When Collins asked about Garcia’s fate, Trump quipped, “Let’s hear the question from this very low-rated anchor at Cb – at CNN low-rated!”
Collins questioned Trump, “Do you plan to press President Bukele to help return the man who your administration says was mistakenly deported to El Salvador?”
Instead of answering the question, Trump gave the floor to Attorney General Pam Bondi and deputy chief of staff Stephen Miller. He interrupted the conversation later on to claim,...

Vice President J.D. Vance has publicly come out in favor of disregarding due process rights in the United States.
In a lengthy X post published on Tuesday, Vance wrote: “To say the administration must observe ‘due process’ is to beg the question: what process is due is a function of our resources, the public interest, the status of the accused, the proposed punishment, and so many other factors. Aimee Lou Wood is getting the last laugh.
After Saturday Night Live spoofed The White Lotus last weekend with a pre-taped sketch called "The White Potus," which reimagined the HBO characters as deranged members of President Donald Trump's inner circle, Wood took to Instagram to publicly call out the show for the way it made fun of her intelligence and her teeth. In the days since, the English actress says she has received an apology from SNL — and she has received an outpouring of support from fans, gaining more than 130,000 Instagram followers. Her Emmy odds have also gotten a boost, jumping from seventh to sixth place in Gold Derby's Best Drama Supporting Actress predictions.
Neither NBC nor SNL has yet commented on Wood's criticism or to confirm that a representative from the show did indeed contact the actress and apologize for the sketch.

President Donald Trump and his administration are acting like they don’t need to listen to the Supreme Court — even going so far as to publicly pretend the high court told them they have no obligation to send back a man they illegally shipped to El Salvador’s infamous torture prison.
Trump suggested last week he would comply with the high court’s unanimous decision ordering him to “facilitate” the return of Kilmar Abrego Garcia, a man who Trump officials previously claimed was deported to El Salvador as the result of an “administrative error.

One of the more controversial moments of the final day (April 13th) of the Coachella festival’s first weekend came during a set by L.A. punk legends Circle Jerks.
Following a rendition of the rebellious political song “Coup d’état,” frontman Keith Morris made a point to clarify some of the song’s lyrics — namely the last line, “kill all” — in the context of the modern day.
Addressing the crowd, Morris said [as transcribed by Sf Gate]: “That song, that last line, ends with ‘kill all.’ That’s a pretty fucking ugly statement. In ugly times. Do not think that we encourage that.”
However, he added, “What we do encourage — what would be totally fucking happening — would be an army of Luigis,” referring to Luigi Mangione, who faces federal and New York state charges for the alleged murder of United Healthcare CEO Brian Thompson in late 2023.

President Donald Trump welcomed El Salvador’s president and self-proclaimed “world’s coolest dictator,” Nayib Bukele to the White House on Monday amid a backdrop of controversy and court battles over his administration’s shipment of hundreds of migrants to El Salvador’s notorious prison system without due process.
While taking questions from the press in the Oval Office, Bukele said he would not return Kilmar Abrego Garcia — a Maryland man the Trump administration admitted it wrongfully deported after accusing him of being a member of Ms-13 — to the United States.

So many of the events and policies of the past three months of Donald Trump’s second presidency can be understood as downstream from one simple, Republican Party-wide organizing principle. That is, Trump aims to severely punish and brutalize his enemies, big and small, even if they didn’t do anything illegal or wrong — and he wants to wield the massive power of the state to do it, no matter how arbitrary or authoritarian his conduct.

Seriously, how did it take so long for someone to come up with a spoof called The White Potus? Credit to Saturday Night Live for finally getting the job done, calling in favors from copious celebrities and former cast members to pull off the pitch-perfect pretaped parody.
James Austin Johnson’s Trump is the protagonist, the once-successful financier whose world is crumbling under his feet. In a nice touch, the Duke T-shirt is replaced by one that reads King. “We are so lucky that America will always be a rich and powerful nation,” drawls Melania (Chloe Fineman making a meal out of Parker Posey’s North Carolina accent). “I mean, can you imagine how awful it would be if America lost all its money and no one in the world respected us anymore?”

Two years ago, Saturday Night Live reimagined Season 2 of The White Lotus as The Black Lotus ("coming to HBO and Starz"). Now they've parodied Season 3, and it's about time, or even past time, what with the finale airing a week ago. James Austin Johnson gets a chance to do more of his excellent impersonation of Donald Trump in The White Potus, which puts members of the Trump family and administration in the Thai setting of Season 3. He's joined by other members of the cast doing some good impersonations (Chloe Fineman standing out with her send-up of Parker Posey's Victoria Ratliff and her Southern accent), and some surprise guests.
It was actually a very well-thought-out sketch that used the economic crisis of America's isolationist trade war as a substitute for the financial and legal downfall of the Ratliff family in The White Lotus. Instead of popping Lorazepam to block out reality,...

Saturday Night Live took a sharp turn into political satire with a spoof titled “The White Potus,” transforming HBO’s The White Lotus into a surreal retreat for the Trump family and key administration figures. The sketch aired during an episode hosted by Jon Hamm and included appearances from Scarlett Johansson, Alex Moffat, and musical guest Lizzo.
The parody recasts characters from The White Lotus season three as figures from the Trump orbit. James Austin Johnson leads the piece as Donald Trump, styled in the manner of Jason Isaacs’s character from the original show. Chloe Fineman portrays Melania Trump with a Southern accent similar to Parker Posey’s Victoria Ratliff, delivering lines that play on the series’ wealthy detachment and political undertones.
“Donald, are you getting ready? Hello? Earth to Donald, it’s your wife, Melania,” she says, as Johnson’s Trump stares off in silence. At the breakfast table,...
