Exclusive: Portuguese-based sales and distribution company Lucky Matrix, best known as the outfit behind Iran’s 2024 Oscar submission In The Arms Of The The Tree, has added the indie British flick Kirsty’s Promise to its EFM slate.

Kirsty’s Promise is the directorial debut from Bristol-based writer Jeff Notton. The film is a Bristol-set dramatic thriller. The story follows ex-addict Kirsty, played by Simone McIntyre, who risks her new life by re-entering the brutal world of heroin and prostitution, and unknowingly the stalking grounds of a serial killer, to save her best friend Becky, played by Bear Thompson.

This film is produced under Simone McIntyre’s Orley Productions. The official synopsis reads: Kirsty’s Promise is a thriller that centers on the relationship between two friends. Kirsty has escaped heroin addiction and the dangerous world of sex work to facilitate this addiction, only with massive fortitude and determination.

Zombies seem to be endlessly popular. Just when you think the world is getting bored of the horror sub-genre, something pops along to prove otherwise. Whether it’s Shaun of the Dead, World War Z, The Walking Dead or the most recent hit series The Last of Us, there is always something new and popular. So it’s no surprise that low-budget horror filmmakers will often give the zombie movie a go.

In this one, the unimaginatively titled Alive, Helen, her younger brother Barney, and her boyfriend Kevin (this has to be a British film with those names doesn’t it?!) are trying to find a safe haven during the zombie apocalypse. This safe haven is an island in which they have the directions for on a Gps unit of some sort.

Gravitas Ventures will be giving writer/director David Marantz’s zombie movie Alive a digital release on January 31st, and to start building the hype for it they have dropped a trailer for the film online.
