First up, NBC is celebrating the 50th anniversary of Jaws with a special presentation of the classic film Tonight that will feature a new introduction from Steven Spielberg.

The 1975 film will air across three hours beginning at 8pm Et on Friday, June 20, which Variety notes is “the exact 50th anniversary date of when it was released.”

Three years ago, it was announced that Nikyatu Jusu, who had just made her feature directorial debut with the horror film Nanny, would be directing a sequel to George A. Now, the film has taken a huge step toward making its way out into the world, as Cinephobia Releasing has announced that they have acquired the U.S. distribution rights! They haven’t revealed exactly when they’re going to be releasing it yet, but we should be hearing that information very soon. The seventh and final installment of the late George A. Romero's Night of the Living Dead franchise is currently in the works, and we've just learned of some new cast additions to this upcoming zombie film.

The movie is titled Twilight of the Dead, and talented actresses Milla Jovovich and Betty Gabriel have been revealed to have joined the cast. Jovovich is best known for starring in the leading role of Alice in the action-horror film franchise Resident Evil. Her most recent role was playing Tess in the sci-fi thriller Breathe. Some of her next projects other than Twilight of the Dead are the upcoming movies In the Lost Lands, Midnight and World Breaker.

Gabriel, on the other hand, is known for portraying Georgina in the smash-hit psychological horror film Get Out. She also starred in many other horror films, such as The Purge: Election Year, Unfriended: Dark Web and It Lives Inside.

If we’re putting Alfred Hitchcock, who was a genius in every aspect and one of the best and most important filmmakers of all time, aside, the first major horror director who influenced the genre in a major way was the legendary George A. Romero, whose 1968 classic Night of the Living Dead is still considered to be a classic of cinema in general.

This low-budget indie horror became exceptionally influential, with many later horror directors, such as John Carpenter or Wes Craven, being influenced by Romero and his work. And while the legendary director passed away in 2017 after battling cancer, it seems that he is coming back from the grave – which is most fitting, seeing how his specialty was zombie films – to give us one last movie.

His final script for a movie titled Twilight of the Dead, which would conclude his zombie series started back in 1968, was left unfinished...

Back in 2021, we got word that Twilight of the Dead was officially in the works with Brad Anderson set to direct, and the movie has now cast its leads.

Deadline reports that Milla Jovovich - who is no stranger to dealing with the undead after headlining the Resident Evil franchise - and Upgrade star Betty Gabriel have joined the project. No details on their roles were provided.

The film is considered to be the "seventh and final installment" of Romero's movie series that began with 1969's Night of the Living Dead. While it will be directed by Brad Anderson, Twilight of the Dead was developed using a treatment for a planned film co-written by Romero before his passing in 2017. Romero's estate has partnered up with Roundtable to finance the project, which will be presented at the American Film Market by Fortitude International this month. Exclusive: Toronto-based genre sales specialist Raven Banner has added Neon Noir horror pics Brute 1976 and Garden of Eden to its Cannes Film Market slate.

Brute 1976 from director Marcel Walz is marketed as a throwback to horror classics such as The Texas Chainsaw Massacre and follows a group of friends who stumble upon the desert town Savage while looking for a spot to set their latest photo shoot, only to meet the depraved, mask-wearing Birdy family, who begin hunting them down one by one.

Deadline details, “Brute 1976 will begin with the story of Raquel and her girlfriend, whose car breaks down in the middle of nowhere as they travel to a photoshoot in the desert to celebrate Bicentennial unity. They stumble across an abandoned mine and explore it, while the photoshoot group replace her with make-up artist Sunshine and then find abandoned town Savage, which has a violent history but is the perfect place to take some photos.

Adriane McLean (Miracles of Christmas), Sarah French (Blind), Gigi Gustin (The Retaliators), Dazelle Yvette (Garden of Eden) and Adam Bucci (NCIS Los Angeles) are starring in the film, which is the third from horror-focused indie Neon Noir.

Production has wrapped on the feature, which plays up to the slasher shocks of The Texas Chainsaw Massacre and The Hills Have Eyes. Producers call it a “homage” to the films, with Neon Noir’s Joe Knetter writing and Marcel Walz directing. Dirk Schürmann and Tobias Schürmann are executive producing and Marcus Friedlander is DoP.

The creative team behind Blind (watch it Here, read my review at This Link) and its sequel Pretty Boy recently launched a production company called Neon Noir, and their first production is a giallo thriller called That’s a Wrap, starring Cerina Vincent of Cabin Fever. Quiver Distribution gave the film a digital release back in August, and it has now made its way over to the Tubi streaming service – and to promote the film now that it’s free to stream, we have the Exclusive first look at a new trailer for That’s a Wrap that shows off quotes from the bad reviews the movie has received! Romero (who passed away in 2017) had left behind a treatment for the “seventh and final installment” in his Dead franchise – following Night of the Living Dead, Dawn of the Dead, Day of the Dead, Land of the Dead, Diary of the Dead, and Survival of the Dead. The story Romero had come up with used a title than many fans expected him to use for his follow-up to Day, Twilight of the Dead, and the team of Joe Knetter, Robert Lucas, and Paolo Zelati, who also worked on the treatment with Romero, were working on fleshing it out into a screenplay. Last month, we heard that Twilight of the Dead had secured funding from Roundtable Entertainment. And now we know who’s going to direct the film: Session 9 director Brad Anderson!

The film comes from a screenplay written by Joe Knetter, Robert Lucas, and Paolo Zelati which originates from a treatment penned by Romero and Paolo Zelati. Producers are Suzanne Romero, John Baldecchi, Ardvella Entertainment’s Stephanie Caleb, Paolo Zelati, and Sarah Donnelly. Executive producers are Dominic Ianno, Alex Dundas, Jason Resnick, Chris Roe, and Luis Riefkohl. Stephanie Holbrook is casting the film.
