This week, it was announced that Apple TV+ has renewed Women in Blue, also known as Las Azules, for Season 2 on the streaming platform. The Spanish-language crime drama series has a perfect score of 100% on Rotten Tomatoes after garnering high acclaim for its freshman season's eight episodes. The Mexican series, comprised of an entirely Latin American cast, has its second season now in production. Ariel Award nominee Bábara Mori will return for Season 2, joined by Ximena Sariñana, Natalia Téllez, and Amorita Rasgado.

Ariel Award nominee Bárbara Mori will reprise her lead role as María alongside stars Ximena Sariñana, Natalia Téllez, and Amorita Rasgado. Featuring an entirely Latin American cast, the eight-episode second season of Women in Blue (Las Azules) is now in production.

Apple TV+ has renewed the Spanish-language series “Women in Blue” (“Las Azules”) for Season 2, Variety has learned.

Bábara Mori will reprise her lead role as María alongside fellow stars Ximena Sariñana, Natalia Téllez and Amorita Rasgado. Season 2 will consist of eight episodes and is now in production.

Per Apple, the second season “continues the story of the four women who defied the ultra-conservative norms of the time by becoming Mexico’s first female police force. Now promoted to lieutenant, María (Mori) finds herself torn between the rules she’s sworn to uphold and a relentless pull towards the truth when the murder of a young university student is followed by more casualties and reveals a deeper conspiracy. As the killings grow bolder and the lines between perpetrator, victim, and avenger begin to blur, María, Ángeles (Sariñana), Gabina (Rasgado) and Valentina (Téllez) are drawn into a maze of buried secrets and painful reckonings.

Announced Jan. 21 at Miami’s Content Americas, the Rose d’Or Latinos Awards are “held during a period of great creative fervor, change, major challenges and arguably the greatest transformation the entertainment industry has ever experienced,” says jury chairman Marcos Santana, former president of NBCUniversal Telemundo Enterprises and current CEO of Mas Ros Media.

That creative fervor is well on display in nominations for the two biggest categories, Drama and Comedy/Dramedy. Variety profiles the nominees below. Some high-profile titles might seem missing: For example, Netflix’s “One Hundred Years of Solitude” and “Senna,” its biggest TV productions to date in Latin America. Voting, however, began before either title was released.

Women in Blue is a Spanish crime drama series created by Pablo Aramendi and Fernando Rovzar. Inspired by true events, the Apple TV+ series is a riveting experience with great characters and a thrilling story, that keeps you engaged throughout all of its episodes. TelevisaUnivision is putting the polish on ViX+ for the premium streamer’s debut next month — and will try to persuade Spanish-speaking audiences to pay for another service in their monthly mix.

The Hispanic programming powerhouse, formed through the merger of Univision and Televisa, is launching ViX+ on July 21 in the U.S and across Latin America. Its will cost 6.99 per month in the U.S. and MX119 per month in Mexico.

TelevisaUnivision touts its entry into the premium streaming wars as the biggest dedicated Spanish-language service in the market: ViX+ is slated to feature more than 10,000 hours of ad-free entertainment programming in its first year and up to 7,000 hours of live sports, including live soccer matches and coverage in the U.S. and Mexico of world’s top leagues and tournaments.
