Carrie (Jackie Kelly) is a socially-troubled young woman trying to mend a strained relationship with her mother. After her grandfather dies in a nursing home, Carrie finds herself attracted to William (Bill Oberst Jr.), an elderly man in a neighboring room. William’s doctor offers Carrie a part-time position with the nursing home to keep tabs on the old man. William shares a series of tall tales from his life as a younger man. He claims to be immortal, cursed to never die, but to grow old and sick. Before he can finish his final tale, William mysteriously disappears, and Carrie is implicated in his murder.

As a part of the film’s newly launched crowdfunding campaign, Live or Die Productions in association with Middle West Movies has released a new teaser video and promotional stills for the upcoming art-house horror film The Man In Room 6 starring Bill Oberst Jr. and Jackie Kelly. This marks the first time Oberst has worked with director, Trevor Juenger since 2014’s Coyote.

I used to love watching the now-cult show Are You Afraid of The Dark?. There’s something deliciously earnest and seriously 90s about that series. It was also for kids, so it doesn't matter that it's silly and dated.
Play Dead, however, aspires to much more. I’m not quite sure what, but it’s definitely reaching for some Spielbergian-level of emotional manipulation. It fails in a spectacular manner, rendering it an ambitious project that doesn't use any of the following tools: logic, consistency or some semblance of realistic dialogue. Actually, if you look at Play Dead as an experimental film, it’s kind of interesting.
But no, it falls into the Are You Afraid of the Dark? category of cheese with special effects that haven’t been used since that...
