The Equalizer 3 Ending Explained
Image
McCall finds peace in a seaside village after facing mafia threats in The Equalizer 3. A subplot involves aiding CIA agent Emma Collins in exposing terrorists and drug shipments. Despite a dark opening massacre, McCall ultimately chooses to retire and stay in the village.

Warning: Major spoilers for The Equalizer 3 below!

The Equalizer 3's ending closed on an interesting note for Denzel Washington's McCall, which appears to be the final chapter for his take on the character. The third Equalizer opens with former Dia officer Robert McCall being wounded after wiping out a Sicilian mob base. He's soon taken in by the locals at a seaside village called Altamonte, who come to treat him as one of their own while he recovers. Unfortunately, the village locals are being threatened by mafia outfit The Camorra; after they push the violence too far, McCall is forced to push back with equal effect.

The Equalizer 4 With Denzel Washington Teased by Franchise Writer
Image
Despite being marketed as the final chapter, a surprise fourth installment of The Equalizer franchise is in very early development. The success of The Equalizer 3 at the box office makes the idea of a fourth movie less surprising. Writer Richard Wenk is tasked with figuring out how the franchise can continue.

Last year’s action sequel The Equalizer 3 was marketed as the final chapter in director Antoine Fuqua and star Denzel Washington’s saga, but writer Richard Wenk, who has written all three installments in The Equalizer franchise, has now hinted that a surprise fourth movie could be on the cards. In a recent interview with Empire Magazine, Wenk explained that, while he felt that the third outing was the last and provided closure, he has now been “tasked” with finding out how the franchise could continue...

“I felt it was over. It felt like the final chapter for this guy.

The Equalizer 3 Star Explains Why [Spoiler's] Death Was the Hardest Scene to Shoot
Image
The following contains spoilers for The Equalizer 3, in cinemas now.

Antagonist Vincent Quaranta's protracted death was the hardest Equalizer 3 scene to shoot, according to actor Andrea Scarduzio.

Scarduzio, who plays Quaranta, recalled the challenges of filming the Italian gangster's demise in an interview with Collider. "Well, by far, definitely, no doubt, the final part of the death, when I'm crawling in the streets [was the hardest scene]," he said. "It was very tough to shoot. It was full winter. We were shooting in December, and it was about five degrees out. Well, it was cold as fuck. It was raining, and we were shooting a lot of hours, and, you know, crawling on those cobblestones is not fun. Actually, I got scars on this leg here and here on my foot, I got scars because I was really bleeding, and deep cuts. [Laughs] It was very tough, and there was a moment that...

Equalizer 3’s Italian Mafia & The Real Camorra Syndicate Explained
Image
Warning: Contains Spoilers for The Equalizer 3!

The Equalizer 3 features a worthy antagonist in the form of the Camorra, a ruthless Italian Mafia syndicate known for its violence and criminal activities. The movie accurately portrays the inner workings of the Camorra, including their involvement in drug trafficking, money laundering, and kidnapping. While the storyline is fictional, it aligns with real-life events, such as the seizure of a large shipment of Captagon pills from the Camorra by Italian government officials in 2020.

Robert McCall returned to deliver violent vigilante justice in The Equalizer 3 — this time against the Camorra, a ruthless organized crime syndicate based on the real life organization of the same name. Acknowledged as the final chapter in the franchise, The Equalizer 3 needed a worthy antagonistic force to conclude McCall's long-running saga. Since the first Equalizer movie back in 2014, McCall, played by the legendary Denzel Washington, has...

Every Equalizer Character Missing From The Equalizer 3
Image
The Equalizer 3 is the final installment of the trilogy and takes place in Sicily, where Robert McCall goes on a vigilante mission to protect his friends from the Italian criminal organization, the Camorra. The movie features new characters, including Emma Collins, Gio Bonucci, Frank Conroy, Chiara Bonucci, and Vincent Quaranta, as Robert's storyline moves to Italy. Major characters from the previous movies, such as Teri, Brian Plummer, and Ralphie, do not return for The Equalizer 3, as their storylines were complete and did not fit with the new location and focus of the movie.

While The Equalizer 3 sees Denzel Washington return as Robert McCall, multiple major characters sat out the sequel. Robert McCall is once again on a vigilante mission, now in Sicily, to protect his friends from the Camorra, the Italian criminal organization. The Equalizer 3 was released in theaters and set a box office record for...

The Equalizer 3 Ending, Explained
Image
Denzel Washington’s version of The Equalizer left an impression on fans. Based on a 1980s television show of the same name, this is a much darker adaptation. Audiences have followed Robert McCall (Washington) as he tries to equalize the scales of good vs. evil. In an attempt to find peace, McCall had to resort to his old methods over two films. In The Equalizer 3, he finally starts to feel peace after a brutal act of violence. McCall’s path to redemption begins in Sicily after his takedown of a ruthless crime enforcer, Lorenzo Vitale.

McCall is in Sicily to find a key in the winery’s vault to recoup money in a cyber heist. His mission is a success until he leaves and is shot in the back by Vitale’s grandson. McCall drags himself back to the mainland until he pulls over on the Amalfi Coast and goes into shock.

Equalizer 3 Is Missing The Essential Ingredient That Created Denzel Washington's Franchise Greatness
Image
Warning: Major spoilers for The Equalizer 3 below!

The Equalizer 3 lacks the unique and well-crafted action scenes seen in the previous movies, resulting in a disappointing and unexciting finale. Unlike the first two films, the third movie has a less physically active main character, with no major fight scenes. The final showdown lacks tension and stakes, as it's clear from the start that McCall is far superior to his opponent. The absence of a killer closing sequence is a strange choice, considering the tradition of the series. The finale feels more like a numbingly violent scene from a slasher film, rather than a satisfying conclusion to the action trilogy.

The Equalizer 3 lacks one essential ingredient that made the previous movies so much fun. The Equalizer is a unique series of action movies, in that the main character McCall (Denzel Washington) often tries to avoid violence instead of charging into it.

Mi: Dead Reckoning Part 1's Andrea Scarduzio on the Film's Fast-Pace
Image
Mission: Impossible - Dead Reckoning Part One allowed Tom Cruise to return to the role of Ethan Hunt one more time, ahead of the final occasion where he'll portray the character in next year's sequel. But one of the low profile roles from this summer's adventure was the one played by Andrea Scarduzio. During a recent interview with Collider's Steve Weintraub, the actor talked about what it was like for him to join Christopher McQuarrie's sequel, becoming a part of the legendary action franchise for the first time in his career. Apparently, the process was much faster than originally thought:...

The Equalizer 3 Review
Image
Plot: After being badly injured, Robert McCall (Denzel Washington) is nursed back to health by the friendly inhabitants of a town in Southern Italy. When he discovers the Sicilian Mafia is terrorizing them, he does what he does best…

Review: I absolutely love the Equalizer movies. It seems no one is making straight-forward action thrillers nowadays other than Antoine Fuqua, who’s become the greatest master of the genre since the late Tony Scott. His movies are taut, efficient and packed with gruesome, R-rated action. They know precisely what they are, and if this is the final Equalizer film, it perfectly closes out the only big-screen trilogy of Denzel Washington’s career.

Robert McCall is a perfect character for Denzel. At seventy years old, Washington has the right mix of righteous anger, world-weariness and kindness to do the character justice. One thing I always loved about the franchise was how...

The Equalizer 3 Ending Explained: The Killer Finds Peace
Image
This piece was written during the 2023 WGA and SAG-AFTRA strikes. Without the labor of the writers and actors currently on strike, the movie being reviewed here wouldn't exist. This article also contains major spoilers for "The Equalizer 3."The original 1985 TV series "The Equalizer," starring Edward Woodward, was part of a notable trend in television from the '70s and '80s. Multiple shows at the time were about dangerous, mysterious, lawless drifters who traveled from town to town seeking out justice and applying violence where it might be needed. The trend included shows like "Kung Fu," "Then Came Bronson," "The A-Team," "The Incredible Hulk," and a little later, "Renegade." Robert McCall was an ex-military man who had a talent for finding people in distress and helping them — violently — as the situation required.

In 2014, filmmaker Antoine Fuqua adapted "The Equalizer" to the big screen, casting Denzel Washington in the role of Robert McCall.

‘The Equalizer 3’ Reminds You Why Denzel Washington Is a National Treasure
Image
Nobody can threaten someone quietly better than Denzel Washington.

Oh, our man can pump up the volume when he needs to, in terms of letting people know he’s bringing the pain — our ears are still ringing from his “King Kong ain’t got shit on me!” taunt from Training Day. But when he lowers his voice to a basso profundo rumble and he fixes that dead-eyed stare on someone, the one that suggests the unflappable, untouchable Teflon Denzel has officially entered the building, and issues some sort of oh-you’ve-stepped-in-it-now promise of bodily harm?...

‘The Equalizer 3’ Review: Denzel Washington’s Charm Battles Scripted Lulls In Antoine Fuqua Action Thriller
Image
Returning for the third installment in the gritty action saga, The Equalizer 3 aims to deepen the mysterious world of Robert McCall. With Denzel Washington’s undeniable charm at its helm and Antione Fuqua’s seasoned direction, the film promises a continuation of its intense street-justice narrative. Yet, does it deliver the high-octane thrills we’ve come to expect, or does it falter under the weight of its own legacy? In addition to Washington, the film also stars Dakota Fanning, Eugenio Mastrandrea, Andrea Scarduzio, and Remo Girone. Richard Wenk returns as screenwriter.

The film starts with one of the bloodiest intro scenes, beginning with Robert McCall (Washington) captured by thugs. They don’t stand a chance, though, as McCall delivers his famed countdown smackdown, and just like that, the bad guys are rendered useless. After the encounter, he ends up in the small Italian town of Altomonte to recover. He stays with the local doctor,...

‘The Equalizer 3’ Review: Denzel Washington and Antoine Fuqua Take Their Vigilante Act to Italy
Image
To enjoy the (allegedly) final entry in Antoine Fuqua’s “The Equalizer” trilogy, it’s not at all crucial to understand the particulars of how former Marine and intelligence operative Robert McCall (Denzel Washington) lands in Italy for this latest outing. It’s safe to assume the vigilante is there to kick some bad-dude butt, with more convoluted revelations to come. Wherever Robert McCall lands, even a luxurious private winery, there are villains afoot for him to kill off in the most gruesome manners, details be damned.

And “The Equalizer 3” opens with Robert skulking around said winery, offing dark-clad mercenary types, and apparently setting right some sort of horrible injustice. As we might expect, he gets much more than he bargained for — and so will fans of Fuqua’s brutal action series, which closes out in fine style.

His foray into Italy begins with snappy, bloody vignettes, putting both...

‘The Equalizer 3’ Review: Denzel Washington-Led Reboot Heads to Italy and Finally Cuts Loose
Denzel Washington
Carnage in Sicily: A winery overturned, its workers bloodied and brutalized lying dead on the floor. It’s hard to tell if it’s Merlot or viscera pouring across the pricy marble. The vineyard’s owner snakes wends his way through the carnage, down the stone stairs to the basement, where one man sits waiting for him. This is Robert McCall (Denzel Washington), and he’s got a bone to pick. He sets his watch, he does his job, and he leaves the property in a mess of bodies.

This is the third entry in director Antoine Fuqua and writer Richard Wenk’s version of the 1980s television show ‘The Equalizer’ (and not to be confused with the 2021 television reboot starring Queen Latifah). The first two ‘Equalizer’ films were drab, dire affairs: Washington’s McCall, like his TV predecessor, was a retired intelligence eager to seek a quiet intellectual life,...

The Equalizer 3 Review: This Unsophisticated Actioner Has Some Rad Violence
Image
In Antoine Fuqua's 2018 film "The Equalizer 2," Robert McCall (Denzel Washington) spent just as much time engaging in civic rebuilding activities as he did slashing criminal throats. He scrubbed graffiti off of the walls of his Boston tenement, read Proust, and handed a reading list -- including Ta-Nehisii Coates' "Between the World and Me" and W.E.B. DuBois' "The Souls of Black Folk" -- to a neighboring at-risk teen (Ashton Sanders from "Moonlight"). It was a film just as much about righteous indignation as it was about kicking ass and cathartic murder. It was an action film for the Trump era, depicting a strictly moral assassin attacking wealthy white frat bros (one gets his neck cut open by the sharpened edge of his own credit card).

Fuqua's and Washington's 2023 follow-up "The Equalizer 3," purportedly the final film in the series, takes a simpler tack. McCall's superheroism...

The Equalizer 3 Trailer: Denzel Washington Is Back To Crack More Skulls And Dispense Justice
Image
In between doling out Oscar-worthy performances and making Shakespearean monologues feel like something you haven't heard a thousand times before, Denzel Washington has spent the past two decades cracking skulls and taking names, going back to at least "Man on Fire." In fact, he's been doing it so long, his co-star in Tony Scott's sublime 2004 action-thriller, Dakota Fanning, had the chance to go off and grow up into a fully-fledged adult actor. That noise you just heard was the sound of millions of Millennials popping the vertebrae in their backs as they abruptly jerked upright, crying out in terror.

Washington and Fanning are now in the process of reuniting for "The Equalizer 3." The vigilante movie franchise is based on the 1980s series of the same name, which was also re-imagined as a TV show starring Queen Latifah in 2021. Both reboots retain the basic setup of the original show,...
