Linda Carmichael grew up in Glasgow, Scotland. She is an alumnus of The Royal Scottish Academy of Music and Drama, now called, The Royal Conservatoire of Scotland. She worked as an actress in the UK under the name, Linda Muchan. Her television breakthrough was STV's Taggart. Television includes, For STV the series, Preview and the pilot of the Taggart series, Killer. She played Sue Boyle. She was in BBC Play for Today productions, Eve Sets the Balls of Corruption Rolling, and Gunfight at The Joe K Corral. She played the lead in the BBC Radio production, The Benjamin. In theatre Linda played one of the leads in the iconic first revival of Men Should Weep, playing Jenny. This was a production of 7-84 Theatre Company and directed by Giles Havergal of The Citizens Theatre Glasgow.

In Boston Linda played with The Sugan Theater, Commonwealth Shakespeare Theater, Company One, and New Repertory Theater. Linda directed for The Theater Cooperative in Somerville MA. Linda has written two plays. Soul on Fire about her correspondence with Herman Wallace, one of the Angola Three prisoners held in Solitary for over four decades. She directed the actor Johnny Lee Davenport in the role of Herman Wallace for her daughter, Lauren Muchan's documentary. Linda has also written a history play set in New Hampshire in 1818, called IN All Our Born Days. Film work includes, Time and Charges, By Ernest Thomson. Session Nine by Brad Anderson.
