Mr Loverman and Mr Bates vs the Post Office were key winners at the 2025 BAFTA Television Awards, which were handed out in London on Sunday evening. Netflix hit series Baby Reindeer, which had led the nominations with eight, followed by Disney+ series Rivals, AppleTV+ hit Slow Horses and ITV’s Mr Bates vs the Post Office with six each, earned one honor on Sunday.

Mr Bates vs. the Post Office pulled off a victory over Netflix's Emmy-winning Baby Reindeer at the 2025 BAFTA TV Awards on Sunday. The ITV drama that dominated U.K. ratings last year tells the story of hundreds of innocent sub-postmasters and postmistresses who were wrongly accused of theft, fraud, and false accounting due to a defective It system.

However, it wasn't all bad news for Baby Reindeer. Emmy, Golden Globe, and SAG Award winner Jessica Gunning continued her impressive awards streak, scoring Best Supporting Actress, and bringing the limited series’ total to three wins, including writing and directing victories from the BAFTA TV Craft Awards on April 27.

Prime Video’s ad-supported reach in the UK is 19 million viewers, Amazon has revealed for the first time.

At a UK Upfront event in London this evening attended by the likes of Priyanka Chopra Jonas and Idris Elba, the company talked up its streaming biz, saying its customer base is equivalent to more than a third of British adults.

In a bid to persuade advertisers their pounds and dollars are being well spent, Amazon said 52% of UK Prime Video viewers did not watch any paid-for TV, and that among these 36% spent more in the Amazon.co.uk store than the average spend of Amazon customers.

Some expect Wbd to move HBO shows to Max when its current deal providing content to Sky ends in 2025. However, Frot-Coutaz noted that while HBO programmes are popular, only three of Sky’s top 20 shows come from HBO. She highlighted the strength of Sky’s homegrown content. Happy Valley‘s Sarah Lancashire today took home the BAFTA TV Award for Leading Actress for the second time.

She beat the likes of Bella Ramsey (The Last of Us), Sharon Horgan (Best Interests) and Helena Bonham Carter (Nolly) to bag the final award of the evening.

The award is Lancashire’s third BAFTA TV Award, coming after a Best Actress win for Happy Valley in 2017 and Best Supporting Actress in 2014 for Last Tango in Halifax. She has been nominated for Best Actress on two other occasions.

In Happy Valley, Lancashire plays divorced police officer Catherine Cawood, who plays a long-running game of cat-and-mouse with criminal Tommy Lee Royce (James Norton). The third and final season launched in the UK early last year, seven years after the first went out.

Netflix drama Top Boy has beaten off competition from Apple TV+’s Slow Horses to win Best Drama Series at the BAFTA TV Awards.

Also competing in the category were the BBC’s Happy Valley and The Gold, but Top Boy walked away with its second award of the night. Earlier in the evening, Jasmine Jobson walked away with a Best Supporting Actress win.

Top Boy, written by Ronan Bennett stars Ashley Walters as drug kingpin Dushane and Kane Robinson as his on-off business partner. The ambitious pair lead a drug operation in an east London council estate. Robinson is shortly up for a Best Actor award for the likes of Brian Cox for Succession, Dominic West for The Crown and Steve Coogan for The Reckoning.

Besides Walters and Robinson, the show has starred the likes of Jobson, Micheal Ward, Little Simz and Araloyin Oshunremi over its five seasons.

Squid Game — The Challenge has won the Reality category at the BAFTA TV Awards.

The UK-produced Netflix show beat off competition from shows such as Banged Up and Married At First Sight. A competition version of Korean drama Squid Game, it pitted 456 payers against each other in a big to win a massive cash prize.

The challenges ranged from the infamous “Red Light Green Light” from the 2021 drama, in which contestants had to avoid moving while in the eyeline of a horrifying giant doll, to new ones based on children’s games such as Battleship. One player ultimately walked away with $4.56M.

The show comes from The Traitors producer Studio Lambert and The Garden, a rare co-production between two major British unscripted producers from different production groups.

The Traitors won last year, when the the category was known as Reality and Constructed Factual.

Matthew Macfadyen has won the BAFTA TV Award for Best Supporting Actor for his role in Succession.

The star, who plays the scheming executive Tom Wambsgams in Jesse Armstrong’s HBO drama, has twice before the award, once for Succession in 2022 and also for Criminal Justice in 2010.

He beat off competition from the likes of Jack Lowden for Apple TV+’s Slow Horses, Salim Daw for The Crown, Amit Shah for Happy Valley and Eanna Hardwicke for The Sixth Commandment.

Macfadyen wasn’t in the room to collect the award but still received a rapturous round of applause. He has won Primetime Emmy, Screen Actors Guild, Golden Globes and Critic Choice awards for n the role.

Jasmine Jobson has won the BAFTA TV Award for Best Supporting Actress for her role in Netflix drama Top Boy.

She beat off competition from the likes of Elizabeth Debicki and Lesley Manville for their roles in The Crown.

The award was the first dished out at this year’s event and continues the rise of Jobson, whose role as Jaq in the gritty Top Boy has been a breakout for the British star.

Top Boy follows the lives of a pair of east London drug kingpins played by Ashley Walters and Kane Robinson, the latter of whom is up for Best Actor tonight. The first segment took place at the end of April when the BAFTA TV Craft Awards gave out gongs for below-the-line artists nominated for their work in this year’s best TV shows. Now, the main ceremony is taking place. This one is where all the big stars rock up as the acting categories are presented tonight in what is a live, televised ceremony broadcast from the Royal Festival Hall on London’s South Bank.

The stars are decorating the red carpet thickly and fastly while the sweat drips from the brows of our journalists just as thick and fast. It’s sweltering here in London. Props, then, must go to “The Hobbit” star Richard Armitage, who dons a pink velvet suit jacket. Velvet is a brave choice in such hot weather but he looks dashing as anything.

It was a night of surprises at the BAFTA TV Awards, with “The Crown” and “Black Mirror” failing to pick up any awards while “Succession” walked away with only one for Matthew Macfadyen for best supporting actor.

Hannah Waddingham, Bella Ramsey, drama series Happy Valley and Squid Game: The Challenge were among the winners at the 2024 Royal Television Society program awards. The Rts unveiled the honorees in London on Tuesday evening.

The Sixth Commandment won the most awards with three, including for best limited series and best supporting actor Éanna Hardwicke. Comedy Extraordinary and drama Top Boy were among the other winners.

Waddingham was honored for her work as one of the hosts of the Eurovision Song Contest, while Ramsey won for their role in the prison anthology drama series Time.

The BBC led the winners across the more than two dozen award categories, being able to celebrate a total of 21 honors.

Last year, Kate Winslet and Kit Connor were among the Rts honorees. The organization last year also introduced several new awards categories.
