PBS Documentary Series ‘Independent Lens’ Reveals Fall Slate of Films (Exclusive)

The PBS documentary series “Independent Lens” returns for a new season on Sept. 16. The fall slate spans from September to November and includes two feature length docs and three nonfiction shorts.

The films cover a host of hot-button topics including race, veterans suffering from Ptsd and the Electoral College.

With major streamers shying away from political fare in favor of celebrity or true-crime nonfiction offerings, Itvs is one of the few platforms left for political docus that tackle current events.

‘Unknown: Cave of Bones’ Docuseries Trailer and Poster

The trailer for Netflix’s Unknown: Cave of Bones opens with the news that 1,500 bones have been discovered in a South African cave. Most importantly, the bones aren’t human.

Cave of Bones is part of a four-part documentary series premiering on the streaming service in July 2023. The four episodes will be released once a week over a four-week period. Part one, The Lost Pyramid, premiered on July 3rd, followed by Killer Robots on July 10th. Cave of Bones streams on July 17th, and the docuseries finishes up with Cosmic Time Machine on July 24th.

Netflix offered this description of the Cave of Bones episode:

Amazon Studios has released the first full trailer for their new horror series Lore. The show is based on a popular podcast and it combines "documentary footage, narration, historical mixed media and cinematic scenes to explore the real-life tales behind pop culture’s most legendary horror myths, such as vampires, changelings, werewolves, séances and possessed dolls."

Here's the first proper trailer for Amazon's new series Lore, which is set to give real-life scary stories the true crime treatment.

Amazon’s television adaptation of Aaron Mahnke’s popular podcast Lore is creeping up on audiences with horror-inducing intrigue in time for Halloween. The series, manifesting as a 6-episode horror anthology, will showcase the podcast’s accounts of real-life scary stories, urban legends and other assorted folklore, using a mix of animation, live-action and archival footage.

Podcast creator Aaron Mahnke narrates the clip and, like in his podcast, the evidence he presents in the show will no doubt serve as the chilling context.
