Game of Thrones (2011)
10 defining Game of Thrones quotes that perfectly capture season 1
Game of Thrones (2011)
In a deeply well-written series, nearly every single line of dialogue is bursting with meaning. Whether they rely on complex investigations of lore and subtext or tell the audience the moral directly, these stories transform ordinary conversations into arguments about morality, philosophy, and the absurdities of life. Game of Thrones earned so much love in its early years precisely because its dialogue consistently pulled this off.

Looking back on the show's first season, it would be difficult to find any scenes where the dialogue isn't rich with deeper meaning. So many of the show's best lines come from those episodes, where each character's values were on display in their every action and conversation.

In the first seven days, it amassed a disappointing total of just above 30 crores, and now, in the second week, it looks for a tragic finish. Keep reading for a detailed collection report of day 8!

Expectations were high because it was a sequel to a successful comedy film. George R.R. Martin’s Winds of Winter Shares a Similar Tragedy That Ruined Game of Thrones
Image
The Winds of Winter is expected to suffer the same fate as Game of Thrones, as George R.R. Martin may be compelled to rush his story due to external pressure and the limited number of books left for him to write.

The delay frustrates everyone, including the author himself—and we know this after he admitted that he struggles writing it. It’s a known fact that the story of Westeros has grown into a vast and complex world, and with so many characters and plot lines, it would be difficult to tie up all events.

Another thing causing the book’s delay is the plot’s slow pacing, which is, of course, brought about by Martin’s painstaking way of writing. We enjoy the twists and turns, even the small nuances that made each character—major or minor—very interesting.

Now, a fan on Reddit believes it would be...

‘Game of Thrones’ Cast Was So Shocked by Final Season Script — Almost Everyone Had Issues with It
Image
The ending of Game of Thrones shocked more than just the fans, it also took the cast by surprise. Emilia Clarke, who played Daenerys Targaryen, opened up to Entertainment Weekly about how she felt when she first read the final season’s script.

The fate of her character upset many viewers, and Clarke admitted that she had a hard time accepting it herself.

When Clarke learned that Daenerys would attack King’s Landing, killing thousands of civilians, and then be killed by Jon Snow, she couldn’t believe it. She had to read the script seven times before it sank in.

After that, she broke down and cried. She even went for a long five-hour walk to process what she was feeling. Clarke said, “What, what, what, What!? Because it comes out of f**king nowhere. I’m flabbergasted. Absolutely never saw that coming. […] I cried. And I went for a walk.

Remember That Time ‘Game of Thrones’ Finale Script Was So Bad Emilia Clarke Read It 7 Times and Cried?
Image
When the final season of Game of Thrones aired, the backlash was fierce. Viewers were shocked, and it turns out the cast was too.

Emilia Clarke, who played Daenerys Targaryen, told Entertainment Weekly that she was stunned when she read how her character’s story would end.

Daenerys would attack King’s Landing, kill thousands of innocent people, and then be killed herself by Jon Snow. Clarke said she had to read the script seven times just to process it.

“What, what, what, What!? Because it comes out of f**king nowhere. I’m flabbergasted. Absolutely never saw that coming,” she recalled. She said she cried and then went for a five-hour walk with blisters on her feet, asking herself, “How am I going to do this?”

When she joined the first table read for the final season, Clarke saw Kit Harington’s reaction to their last scene together. He started crying too.

This Day That Year: Rajiv Rai’s 2004 Asambhav starring Arjun, Nasserudin and Priyanka
Image
Subhash K Jha, in a new installment of the This Day That Year series, looks at Rajiv Rai’s Asambhav (Impossible), 23 July 2004, starring Arjun Rampal, Naseeruddin Shah and Priyanka Chopra.

It may take you a while to figure out why the film is called Asambhav. Out of the blue—or is it purple? — In the second half, the mystery is solved when the 60-plus Indian high commissioner to Switzerland (Sharat Saxena) catches hold of a severely underdressed, suspiciously underage staffer and smooches her torridly in full camera view…all 6 or 7 of them. We’re counting the number of cameras, not the smooches.

Rajiv Rai is in many ways the guru of hi-tech potboilers in Hindi. He shoots this gun-gals-gizmo film on international terrorism with a multitude of cameras. Often, we get split-screen views of the conflict at hand with different cameras capturing the characters at different places simultaneously as they...

Why Is TV So Dark … Literally?
Image
As a disclaimer, my vision is already abhorrent.

A combination of bad genetics and too much time spent reading novels between street lights during car rides didn’t give me the best head start. Once we got into an era of tiny screens and handheld computers at our beck and call, taking us from one glowing screen to the next? Well, my eyeballs were destined to screw me over.

But this isn’t about my crappy vision, it’s about the medium. So, let’s dim the lights and — oh wait, we don’t have to, because TV already did it for us!

(Ollie Upton/HBO)

For me, the phenomenon and my really noticing it started with Teen Wolf.

I’m pretty certain all of Teen Wolf was illuminated by a single dusty 40-watt warm light bulb and the sheen from everyone’s abs.

Did someone just get bitten? I don’t know.

There’s a Very Pro-Feminist Reason Why Cersei Isn’t Called Cersei Baratheon in Game of Thrones
Image
Do you ever wonder why Catelyn Tully is called Catelyn Stark after marrying Ned, but Cersei Lannister is not called Cersei Baratheon after tying the knot with Robert? It’s because Queens of Westeros do not take their husbands’ last name.

This practice has been acknowledged and used for years, even though it seems like Cersei is someone who would deliberately retain her name as a gesture of pride for House Lannister.

The common rule for married couples, where wives take their husbands’ names, does not apply to royal marriages. You can marry a member of the royal family, but you cannot marry the royal name—as simple as that. This also explains why Margaery Tyrell, who married three Baratheon kings, never became a Baratheon herself.

Cersei Lannister Stands Out Among the Queens of Westeros

Cersei’s arresting presence in Game of Thrones made her a very iconic and compelling character.

10 Years Later, I Still Haven’t Forgiven How Game of Thrones S5 Butchered This Grrm Character From ‘A Feast for Crows’
Image
The Waif in Game of Thrones was one of the most underexplored yet controversial characters, especially with how she was portrayed on screen. It not only affected the accuracy of the adaptation, but it also ruined Arya Stark’s training with the Faceless Men.

The show depicted the Waif as an acolyte serving in the House of Black and White in Braavos. She demonstrated immense hatred towards Arya and possessed a cold demeanor, which made her very unlikable, especially to the viewers.

The Waif makes no sense and is just unlikable and boring

This is not the case in the books. The Waif was instrumental to Arya’s training to become an assassin, and it’s quite sad that she was reduced to this loathsome character that only faded into oblivion.

The Best Game of Thrones Deleted Scene Has Me Worried for House of the Dragon Season 3
Image
Game of Thrones cruelly deleted an interesting scene between Tywin Lannister and Grand Maester Pycelle in Season 3, a clip that was shown at the 2013 San Diego Comic-Con.

In the scene, Pycelle approached Tywin, who was enjoying fishing, to ask for his job back after he was removed from his post. A moment later, Tywin called him out to stop his performance, with Pycelle finally shedding his pretense and standing up straight, revealing that he was not really the doddering old man he’s feigning to be.

Deleting this scene was a massive loss of opportunity to showcase how seemingly harmless minor characters can be very dangerous. The surprise unmasking of Pycelle’s disguise, as well as Tywin seeing through this performance, would have added more meat and spice to the story.

If this practice continues to prevail in House of the Dragon, it will not only render the characters one-dimensional,...

George R.R. Martin on How Long The Winds of Winter Will Be: “It’s probably going to be a larger book than any of the previous volumes in the series”
Image
The Winds of Winter will be the lengthiest installment in the A Song of Ice and Fire series, as confirmed by George R.R. Martin. His previous books, A Storm of Swords and A Dance with Dragons, were the most voluminous among the published ones, so readers can expect that the sixth novel would go beyond 1,500 manuscript pages.

During a live stream interview with Penguin Random House, the writer emphasized how The Winds of Winter is a mammoth of a book in scale:

It’s a big, big book, I’ve said that before. It’s a challenging book. It’s probably gonna be a larger book than any of the previous volumes in the series.

He remarked that it could be longer than what he initially envisioned by the time he’s finished writing it, so fans better brace themselves for a very lengthy reading time.

Top 25 Villains in ‘Doctor Who’, Ranked Worst to Best

For a show that’s been around longer than many of us have been alive, Doctor Who has had more than its fair share of spooky, weird, and wildly memorable villains. Over nearly six decades and a rotating carousel of regenerations, the Doctor has gone toe-to-toe with everything from clanking robots to living shadows.

And while most episodes toss in a monster-of-the-week just to stir up some trouble, a few baddies have stuck around—either by pure menace, brilliant writing, or the way they made the Doctor stumble. Because, let’s face it, it’s always juicier when the Doctor doesn’t have the upper hand.

It’s not just about who can cause the most chaos—it’s about the ones who get under your skin, the ones who leave the Doctor genuinely rattled. So here’s a look at twenty-five of Doctor Who’s most terrifying villains, ranked...

George R.R. Martin’s ‘Warging’ Theory Perfectly Explains Sansa’s Redemption in Game of Thrones
Image
The Stark children are said to possess the fantastical power of warging, or the ability to enter and control the mind of an animal and perceive the world through their senses. While the rest of them spent time with their direwolves, Sansa Stark lost Lady very early on. Does that mean to say she never experienced warging?

As seen in Game of Thrones, Lady was executed by Ned Stark after Cersei Lannister sentenced her to death, in place of Arya’s direwolf Nymeria, as the latter allegedly attacked Joffrey and escaped. With Sansa’s direwolf gone too soon, the Lady of Winterfell seemingly transformed from a timid girl to a fierce woman.

New Game of Thrones Theory May Finally Explain Grrm’s Brutal ‘The Winds of Winter’ Delay
Image
George R.R. Martin’s original plan for a five-year time jump after A Storm of Swords may have been the reason why his sixth novel, The Winds of Winter, remains unfinished. With so many characters and storylines, the author might have found it difficult to tie up loose ends. His characters still need more time to fully develop their arcs, but Martin had announced that there would only be two more books to be released.

The bottom line is that instead of producing three books to cover the post-time jump story, Martin will have to cram everything into two novels. According to a fan on Reddit, this is the possible reason why the author couldn’t finish the book on time.

Almost 2 Million Signatures: Game of Thrones Season 8 Remake Petition Demands ‘Competent Writers’

Six years on, Game of Thrones fans still haven’t let go of Season 8 and it’s not hard to see why. Nearly two million people have called for a remake, frustrated by rushed storytelling, dropped logic, and sidelined character arcs.

Arya Kills Cersei Wearing Jaime’s Face? The Winds of Winter Theory That Could Spark a New War
Image
Cersei Lannister had been on Arya Stark’s list of names for quite some time, and for eight seasons, fans of Game of Thrones expected a showdown between her and the queen—of course, in the most unexpected way.

Having spent two seasons in the House of Black and White to learn the ways of the Faceless Men, Arya gave us the impression that she would use this newfound skill to exact her revenge. Unfortunately, it did not happen in the show, but The Winds of Winter could deliver this.

“George had literally no reason writing a character this good”: Game of Thrones Never Featured the Lannister Who’s Even More Badass Than Tywin
Image
House Lannister has several clever members as we’ve seen in Game of Thrones, but the show failed to feature one of the most astonishing members of the clan: Genna Lannister. She is a minor character in A Song of Ice and Fire, but her incredible wit and sarcasm make her super memorable for readers.

The show only featured a handful of Lannisters, most of them having prominent parts in the story. Since Genna was only a minor figure, the showrunners opted not to explore her story to focus more on Tywin and his three children, Jaime, Cersei, and Tyrion. That said, leaving out Genna was a huge missed opportunity.

What was Game of Thrones before Game of Thrones?
Image
Even now, six years after Game of Thrones aired its divisive final season, the series stands out as the greatest major pop-culture phenomenon in the history of genre television. Everyone and their mother were watching and discussing Arya, Sansa, Jon, Dany, and all the rest in their offices, classrooms, gyms, pubs, and schools. People wrote long articles about their expectations for the final seasons of the once-in-a-generation series. At its peak, its viewership was in the tens of millions and spanned the entire globe. To this day, Game of Thrones remains one of the most pirated TV shows ever, as avid fans tried to get around the need for an HBO subscription, or the limited availability of the world’s most engaging television show in their country or region.

Who Is George R.R. Martin’s Wife: Game of Thrones Author Never Had Any Kids
Image
George R.R. Martin may be the literary mastermind behind A Song of Ice and Fire, unraveling the sprawling, drama-laced stories of his fictional characters most spectacularly through his pen, but in real life, he is famously reclusive and fiercely private about his personal life. As opposed to the royal bloodlines, illegitimate heirs, and lineage warfare inked by him, his own life tells a much quieter tale.

But that’s not to say that the legend’s real-life relationship isn’t defined by loyalty and longevity; it is, all thanks to his longtime partner and wife, Parris McBride. While he has had other partners too, only McBride stuck along his rollercoaster ride, continuing to do so even now. Yet, while his stories interestingly focus heavily on the legacies passed from parent to child, Martin never had children of his own.

There is no thrill in watching Game of Thrones without bloody duels, and for eight seasons, we’ve waited to see the most anticipated revenge fight between two famed rivals—The Hound and The Mountain. The final installment, however, delivered a mediocre confrontation between the two estranged brothers.

Colloquially known as the Cleganebowl, this years-long theory that they would meet again in an epic clash could happen in The Winds of Winter. Yes, this event was only an invention of the showrunners as a fan service. Where we left off in the books, both brothers were seemingly on the verge of death.

Joseph Quinn's Game of Thrones performance impressed Fantastic Four director
Joseph Quinn
Joseph Quinn really blew up when he played hard-rocking, D&d-loving super-senior in the fourth season of Stranger Things, when he was already on the rise before that. He appeared briefly in the seventh season of Game of Thrones, then the biggest show on TV, as a Winterfell guardsman named Koner. He appeared in the episode "The Spoils of War," when Arya Stark finally makes it home to Winterfell. Koner doesn't believe it's her and tells her to get lost, only for Arya to brow-beat him into doubting himself and letting her through; watch it above.

It's a small moment, but it left an impression on episode director Matt Shakman. “I was impressed by him, and thought, ‘Someday I’ll work with him again,’” the director told Empire. Sure enough, Shakman is now directing The Fantastic Four: First Steps, a mondo-sized Marvel movie due out next month. And who should...

“Let’s make him gay too”: Joe Rogan Loved Game of Thrones Season 8 Except the Grand Finale

It’s been six years since the HBO hit, Game of Thrones, came to a controversial conclusion, one that left many disappointed, including the popular podcaster Joe Rogan. Known for his candid commentary, Rogan admitted to enjoying the final season overall, but the series finale, in particular, didn’t sit well with him.

Based on George R.R. Martin’s book series, the show had a remarkable eight-season run on HBO, becoming one of the biggest TV series of all time. However, the finale was widely criticized for feeling rushed, emotionally flat, and ultimately unsatisfying.

Despite its long-celebrated run on HBO over eight seasons, the Game of Thrones series finale failed to land well with fans and critics alike. It has been widely criticized, with many considering it one of the most disappointing series finales of all time.

5 Essential Game Of Thrones Episodes That Everyone Should Watch At Least Once
Image
It could be argued — and will be argued, by me, right now — that during its series finale in May 2019, "Game of Thrones" squandered all of its cultural goodwill at an alarming speed. That doesn't mean, by any stretch of the imagination, that the show is bad. A lot of it is still great and worth watching! So if you're trying to understand the sprawling world of "Game of Thrones" — created by author George R.R. Martin, who penned the original novel series "A Song of Ice and Fire" — over just a few episodes, I'll be the first to tell you that's a big undertaking. Too big, perhaps. You should probably just sit down and watch the whole series and, in the process, prepare yourself for a shocking decline in quality between the season 6 finale and the season 7 premiere.

Anyway, if we're talking about "essential" episodes of "Game of Thrones," that doesn't...

‘Barracuda Queens’ Season 2 Netflix Review: Sweden’s ‘Bling Ring’ Is Slightly Better In Its Second Outing
Image
If you watched Barracuda Queens season 2 as a stand-alone, you might actually find it quite entertaining. It’s about 5 young women trying to get their lives together by stealing from wealthy and mean people, who seem to have it coming. But if you’ve seen season 1 and found it way too chaotic, then season 2 will feel almost like a breath of fresh air. Now that we don’t need to be introduced to these characters again, it’s easy to go with the flow of the show. Set 5 years after the events of season 1, Barracuda Queens season 2 makes the girls seem more naive and vain than ever before. It’s been 5 years since they narrowly escaped prison, and now they’ve found a reason to go back to heisting – wanting to live independently. I guess you could say that it’s a coming-of-age story, but it’s more just a...

If Game of Thrones Didn’t Disappoint Enough, 5 Major Gay Characters Were Ignored That You Need to Know in Pride Month
Image
Game of Thrones, a cultural juggernaut, is one of the biggest TV shows of all time. However, as popular as it is, the show has always been a little contentious and controversial.

While its divisive finale continues to disappoint fans, as do many of its plot points and character arcs, the show is particularly a hard watch for queer viewers because of its handling of LGBTQ+ characters. While Westeros had its share of queer moments, many were sidelined or brutally cut short, leaving rich stories untold. This Pride Month, let’s shine a light on five major gay or bisexual female characters whose queer identities were ignored or underdeveloped, robbing fans of deeper representation.

A Game Of Thrones Star Thought The Original Pilot Was A Disaster
Image
We may receive a commission on purchases made from links.

We've all heard tales, throughout the years, of the original "Game of Thrones" pilot and how much it absolutely stunk ... and apparently, Kit Harington, who played assumed Stark bastard Jon Snow in both the botched pilot and the entire series, had a bad feeling about it pretty early on.

In an Esquire profile in the April 2019 issue of GQ (about a month before "Game of Thrones" concluded with its eighth and final season), Harington revealed photos of his time on the "Game of Thrones" set to interviewer Bruce Handy, which apparently included a shot of the original table read for that awful pilot. As Harington showed off a picture of himself and his co-stars Richard Madden and Alfie Allen, who went on to play Robb Stark and Theon Greyjoy, he mused about the pilot that, thankfully, never saw the light of day.

Game Of Thrones Made Bran a Know-It-All Who Watched Arya Walk Into Danger For Fun
Image
It has been just over six years since Game of Thrones wrapped up. As the show ended, for many, it left more questions than it answered in the last season. While we are still not over the disappointment that was season eight, there are certain questions that still bug us. Safe to say that we are not the only ones to randomly think the ‘what ifs’ and ‘if onlys’ of Westeros.

Recently, a fan speculated why Bran did not warn Arya about the dangers of the West of Westeros despite being the Three-Eyed Raven and the greensayer. Soon, it started an eye-opening discussion thread regarding the probable reason for the youngest Stark kid’s behavior.

Why did Bran allow Arya to face the dangers despite being a Know-It-All?

Recently, a Game of Thrones fan took to Reddit to pose the question of why Bran (played by Isaac Hempstead Wright) did...

Did HBO Make the Right Call Not Listening to Sophie Turner’s Game of Thrones Wish?
Image
It’s been six years since HBO’s hit show Game of Thrones ended, but the debates still rage on. One of the more surprising behind-the-scenes revelations was that Sophie Turner, who played the resilient Sansa Stark, actually wanted her character to die.

Yes, while fans celebrated her rise as Queen in the North, Turner was quietly hoping for a dramatic, blood-soaked exit like so many of her onscreen family members. So, did HBO miss an opportunity by letting Sansa survive? Or did her ending deliver one of the few satisfying conclusions in a season full of letdowns?

Why Sansa’s ending was actually perfect!

While the final season of Game of Thrones earned mixed reviews at best, and scathing ones at worst, Sansa Stark emerged with one of the rare victories that managed to satisfy a substantial portion of the fanbase. Her transformation from the sheltered, wide-eyed daughter of...

Even 9 Years Later, Game of Thrones Fans Aren’t Sure if HBO Wasted One Character or Gave Her the Perfect Ending
Image
If there’s one Game of Thrones character that many fans feel conflicted about her fate, it’s Margaery Tyrell. She was one of the most beloved fan-favorite characters who died unexpectedly. It’s sad because she had the makings of a queen, and she held on to that ambition without being too greedy or violent.

The audience would describe Margaery as clever, gentle, and confident. She knows her worth, and she’s determined to achieve her goals, usually utilizing her beauty and family influence to secure power. When she died in Season 6, fans were left scratching their heads.

Margaery Tyrell’s death is still a discussion among Game of Thrones fans Natalie Dormer in Game of Thrones / Credits: HBO

Played by Natalie Dormer, Margaery Tyrell only appeared in 26 episodes of Game of Thrones, beginning in Season 2. She was first married to Renly Baratheon, the lover of her brother Loras.

Game of Thrones Star Rory McCann Talks Taking Over Baylan Skoll Role
Image
Baylan Skoll was one of the most compelling characters in the first season of Ahsoka, and that was largely due to the gravitas-fueled performance of Ray Stevenson. With the actor passing in May 2023, the role was recast and Game of Thrones alum Rory McCann will take on the mantle. Recently, the Hound actor spoke on the responsibility of taking over for Stevenson.

In an interview with ComicBook, spoke about the character's trajectory. "I think it’s the right decision to carry on his storyline, not just cut it off," he said about playing Baylan Skoll. "We’ve done it before with other things. I hope the fans embrace it and I’ll do my best. I’m just starting now, so I’m just trying to be in the right zone for doing it. It’s pretty bloody exciting. I mean, I remember being a kid with my dad, going...

6 Game of Thrones book characters who were done dirty by the show
Image
When it comes to Game of Thrones, there is no doubt that the source material — George R.R. Martin's A Song of Ice and Fire books — are better. They are packed with a lot more detail, character development, and intersecting arcs. The TV series tried, and for the first few seasons did a pretty good job of condensing all that materials, but there were some characters it did dirty.

Some of those were main characters who lost a lot in translation, and some were smaller characters whose stories had to be cut. These are the top six Game of Thrones book characters who were done dirty by the show, and if there was ever a reboot, the flaws would need to be fixed.

Daenerys Targaryen and Jon Snow in Game of Thrones 1. Jon Snow

From the very beginning of A Song of Ice and Fire, Jon Snow was an intriguing character.

Why Sophie Turner Wanted Sansa Stark To Die In Game Of Thrones
Image
This article contains spoilers for "Game of Thrones."

It's hard to believe it's been six years since the controversial series finale of HBO's "Game of Thrones." The series, based on George R.R. Martin's "A Song of Ice and Fire" fantasy novels, was widely acclaimed during its initial run, with its slew of rich, dynamic, and unforgettable characters that brought the realm of Westeros to such vivid life, as well as the masterful way it staged some of the most epic fantasy sequences ever produced on either television or film. Although the infamous final season remains subject to much scrutiny from critics and fans alike, nothing will take away the moments of true peak long-form storytelling on display during the series' highlights.

The number of fatalities throughout the story elevated "Game of Thrones" to become one of the defining pop culture phenomena of the 2010s. Season 1 famously kills off Lord...

The most disliked episodes of Game of Thrones and House of the Dragon
Image
Game of Thrones and House of the Dragon have received considerable praise from critics and fans alike. In spite of this, no show is perfect, and viewers often find themselves wishing certain events turned out differently. Because of how popular they are, the two shows are more closely examined and in return receive more criticism when fans realize they are not enjoying what they previously loved.

On one hand, many of the most disliked episodes are part of the eight and final season of Game of Thrones. On the other, the latest episode of House of the Dragon represents the culmination of dissatisfaction that built up throughout its second season. This could be interpreted as an indicator of the quality of future seasons, or it could represent a valley before an eventual peak.

“I have more influence now”: HBO’s Greatest Mistake Has Given George R.R. Martin the Ultimate ‘Veto’ in ‘A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms’
Image
After Game of Thrones crashed and burned with its horrific season 8 ending, HBO knew it had to fix things starting with giving George R.R. Martin’s real power. This time, he reportedly has the final say on key creative decisions in A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms.

It’s a major shift from when he was sidelined during GoT. Now, Martin’s back in control, and it’s HBO’s way of ensuring they don’t botch another Westeros tale. For once, the man behind the world actually gets to steer the ship (and I couldn’t be happier!).

‘Daenerys Is the Night Queen’ Theory Must Come True if George R.R. Martin Has Been Writing The Winds of Winter for 13 Years
Image
Some of you are still waiting for George R.R. Martin to release The Winds of Winter, and some of you are hoping it’s worth the wait. Well, the only thing that could make the 13-year wait worthwhile is when the author gives us the shock of our lives: Daenerys becoming the Night Queen.

This isn’t a far-fetched idea and totally not impossible to happen. In fact, the Night Queen theory has been around for years, and since the books leave a lot to possibilities, we may as well get a satisfying conclusion to the A Song of Ice and Fire saga.

Emilia Clarke’s Daenerys Targaryen left Game of Thrones on a tragic note. Her death signaled the end of an era, a lineage, and a once-promising vision.

Where all the Game of Thrones characters will be at the start of The Winds of Winter
Image
Game of Thrones ended years ago, but the book series that it's based on — A Song of Ice and Fire by George R.R. Martin — has been stalled since around the time the show premiered way back in 2011. That's also when Martin released A Dance With Dragons, the fifth book in his saga. Fans have been waiting for the sixth book, The Winds of Winter, ever since.

The fifth season of Game of Thrones adapted A Dance With Dragons, more or less. Highlights include Cersei Lannister being marched naked through the streets of King's Landing, Daernerys Targaryen flying Drogon for the first time, and Jon Snow being stabbed to death by the men of the Night's Watch. That's where readers have been for over 10 years. One fan on Reddit put together a map showing where all the characters will be at the start of The Winds of Winter, should that ever...
