He was a private detective who handled cases ranging from mundane (cheating spouses) to big-name. He lost both his hands in an accident when he was 13, and wore a pair of steel hooks, specially-built prostheses that he could use to fire a gun or climb a fence. Before becoming a detective, he made military training films, in which he helped wounded soldiers learn to use their prostheses.
