About The Film

The movie stars Peter Jae as Army Ranger Wyatt Park, a man whose life is torn apart in a single moment. What begins as an ordinary workout video shoot with his pregnant wife, Becca (Galadriel Stineman), quickly turns into chaos when a mob hit erupts. In the violent aftermath, Becca is killed, leaving Wyatt devastated but determined to fight back. Alongside his brother-in-law Levi, played by Kelly, Wyatt sets out to track down those responsible. Every step of their bloody mission is documented on camera as a legacy for the child who survives the attack.

Filmmaker James Cullen Bressack’s found footage Fantastic Fest title The Workout has found a theatrical home.

The Workout will arrive in limited release Aug. 27 via Anchor Bay Entertainment, followed by VOD (through Insurgence) and Blu-ray on Oct. 28 via Anchor Bay.

According to the logline, The Workout “chronicles Army Ranger Wyatt Park (Peter Jae) and his pregnant wife Becca (Galadriel Stineman) as they film a workout video in their private gym that becomes violently interrupted by a mob hit. Becca is killed, but their unborn child is miraculously saved. Grief-stricken and enraged, Wyatt and his brother-in-law Levi (Josh Kelly) launch a merciless mission of vengeance, documenting every moment for the child to one day understand what happened.”

The cast also includes Ashlee Evans-Smith, Kristos Andrews, Augie Duke, The Workout co-writer David Josh Lawrence and Bj Hendricks, who co-executive produced the feature.

Bressack co-wrote the script and produced, along with Ben Stobber and Jarrett Furst.

Jean-Claude Van Damme steps into another intense and gritty action role as his new thriller Darkness of Man blasts its way onto Netflix on December 20. The James Cullen Bressack-directed movie provides Van Damme fans with his usual hard-hitting, raw action-driven storyline, but also sees the ever-popular tough guy playing a character with a little more emotional depth than in many of his biggest movies. While now very much in his twilight years as an action hero, Van Damme surprisingly delivers a movie that sits higher than many of his recent offerings.

In Darkness of Man, Van Damme plays Russell Hatch, a former Interpol agent whose life takes a tragic turn when his partner is killed during a dangerous operation in Los Angeles. Directed by James Cullen Bressack, the L.A.-set feature — news of which was first unveiled by The Hollywood Reporter at the American Film Market in 2022 — sees the Jean-Claude Van Damme, the Muscles from Brussels, play an out-of-shape (well, for him) Interpol agent alongside a cast that includes Kristanna Loken, Emerson Min, Sticky Fingaz, Spencer Breslin, Andrey Ivchenko, Peter Jae and Nick Diaz.

Saban Films has acquired the U.S., U.K. and other international rights to Jean-Claude Van Damme action-spy thriller “Darkness of Man.”

Directed by James Cullen Bressack, the film sees Van Damme playing Interpol operative Russell Hatch, who witnesses the death of his last informant in a routine raid gone wrong. Years later, he takes on a father figure role to the son of the informant, and finds himself protecting the boy from a group of merciless gangs in an all-out turf war.

Alongside the U.S. and U.K., Saban Films has picked up Australian/New Zealand, African, Spanish and Scandinavian territory rights to the film, which also stars Kristanna Loken (“Terminator 3: Rise of the Machines”), Peter Jae (“Blackhat”), Spencer Breslin (“The Kid”), Emerson Min (“Black-ish”) and rapper Sticky Fingaz.

I’m so excited to talk about this movie. I learned of this production through various Korean entertainment websites that I frequent. I was more than curious about it and couldn’t wait to check it out.

Ktown Cowboys, directed by Daniel Park, is described as a coming-of-age movie, but it’s more like an “adulting is hard” movie. Essentially it’s the live action counterpart of a web-series about a group of friends who are wading through the last remnants of immaturity as they finally begin to accept responsibility for their lives.

It sounds deep, but it’s not. In fact, it was hilariously awkward and frank. If you have ever seen 21 & Over, this movie is basically showing you the life of the Asian kid after college if he were Korean and his friends were also Korean. Completely the opposite of 21 & Over though, the whole Ktown Cowboys movie shows...

For any Americans who need a crash course in Korean-American culture, look no further than Daniel Park’s Ktown Cowboys. Playing like an instructional video for those of us who are unfamiliar with Los Angeles’ Koreatown scene, we’re introduced to a group of characters who take time out of their busy partying schedule to drop factoids about Korean lifestyles. The whole thing feels like an episode of Korean Entourage in some ways, since each character pretty much mirrors Wahlberg’s “fictional” crew, but this isn’t necessarily a bad thing for us karaoke-loving clubheads who are interested in other drunken cultures.

This is a straight-laced story about how bro-bonding can overcome the most dire of circumstances, which is nothing new, but the location of Ktown does offer more intrigue than an equal story about generic Californians with the same problem. This is Ktown, bro! Time to kick out the K-Pop and play some Starcraft!

South by Southwest, the multi-faceted film, music and technology festival held annually in Austin, TX will feature such upcoming films as Paul Feig’s Spy, David Gordon Green’s Manglehorn, Alex Gibney’s documentary Steve Jobs: The Man in the Machine, and Ondi Timoner’s Russell Brand profile Brand: A Second Coming as headliners in this year’s film festival lineup.

SXSW runs from March 13 to 21 in Austin and is now in its 22nd year. Variety has details of the 145 films and 100 world premieres bowing at this year’s festival. Brand, as previously reported, will be the festival’s opening night film.
