CitizenRacecar's (Podcast About) Making Better Podcasts
Image
CitizenRacecar, an award winning branded podcast agency, announces the launch of its own podcast series, (A Podcast About) Making Better Podcasts. Hosted by their Founder & Principal David Hoffman, the show offers an immersive and unpredictable journey into the art and science of audio storytelling.

“The podcast production industry—especially the world of branded podcasting, where we work—has become very closed off in its thinking”, says Hoffman, who has led CitizenRacecar since its founding in 2012. “There is a sense that a podcast has to be an interview show, it has to be optimized for short video, it has to conform to a very narrow set of conventions when it comes to format and style. Nothing could be further from the truth! Longform audio is tremendously versatile. We always want to lead from the front, and this show is both an educational series about the unique power of the format we...

Blue Bloods Season Premiere Photos: What Do They Mean?
Tom Selleck, Bridget Moynahan, Donnie Wahlberg, and Will Estes in Blue Bloods (2010)
It's been a long wait, but Blue Bloods Season 12 premieres in less than a month.

CBS has now dropped a batch of photos for Blue Bloods Season 12 Episode 1, titled "Hate Is Hate," and it teases a lot of pivotal scenes ahead for fans of the beloved procedural.

The good news is that the photos tease the Reagan family dinners we've come to expect from the series.

It's nice to know that, in the midst of so many changes in the world, they still put everything aside to come to dinner in the name of connecting with one another.

So, we can expected the family to sip on fine wine, eat good food, and crack some wild jokes, which might be some much-needed respite from the darkness infused throughout the rest of the season premiere.

"As Danny consults a psychic to solve the murder of a young boy, Frank is at...

Dolly Parton
Dolly Parton: 5 Great Opry Performances
Dolly Parton
By the time Dolly Parton had entered her teens, the young girl from the Smoky Mountains of East Tennessee had accomplished something that most adults who love to sing country music could only dare dream: she had performed on the Grand Ole Opry.

Parton, who this week celebrates her 50th anniversary as a member of the Opry cast with an all-star salute, was officially inducted as an Opry member in January 1969, by which time she was a nationally recognized TV star alongside Porter Wagoner. But in 1959, the 13-year-old, then unknown outside of Knoxville,...

General Magic (2018)
Film Review: ‘General Magic’
General Magic (2018)
The story of a failure that was, in fact, a triumph, “General Magic” recounts the short but brilliant life of an early 1990s technology company that saw the future too soon. Populated by some of the field’s brightest young minds, General Magic was driven by charismatic founder Marc Porat’s groundbreaking vision for a personal handheld smartphone, which flamed out not for lack of ingenuity but, rather, on account of poor timing. Sarah Kerruish and Matt Maude’s documentary pays tribute to his and others’ pioneering work, along the way providing a window into the revolutionary, competitive, and precarious world of Silicon Valley. As a literal origin story about how we live today, it’s a captivating history lesson with global appeal.

As Porat tells it in hindsight, the idea for his device — with phone, messaging, note-taking, and game functions — came to him in 1989, and “General Magic” bolsters his...

The 19 Most Significant Animals on TV in 2016
Lothaire Bluteau, James Roday Rodriguez, Sarah Silverman, Jimmi Simpson, Sutton Foster, Lily Cole, and Gabourey Sidibe in Gravy (2015)
Animals live among us, often with us, some despite our interference in their habitats. They’re independent organisms that are often subject to our rules. This is especially true when it comes to television.

How we use and portray animals on TV perhaps reveals more about ourselves than the qualities they contain. Are they brought in to round out a nuclear TV family, or do they have greater narrative significance? Do they have personalities or are they plot devices that advance the story, and then forgotten? Do characters regard them with any real feeling?

Read More: The Best TV Shows of 2016

IndieWire examined how the animal kingdom fared on our screens this year from a storytelling point of view, and determined which portrayals were the most significant. Because of this narrative aspect, we focused on two types: fictional animals whose characters were created for the purpose of the show, and non-speaking animals.

Top Cat Begins Coming to UK Theatres in May
Classic cartoon lovers rejoice! That fantastic feline superstar returns to UK movie screens in just a few weeks. As the Hoyt Curtin TV theme proclaims, “…but above everything, he’s the most tip top…Top Cat!”. Tc, as close friends call him, did indeed debut on American TV screens on the then fledgling ABC network in September of 1961 (talk about your nine lives!). This show, along with “The Jetsons” and “Jonny Quest” was an attempt by animation studio Hanna-Barbera to replicate the prime time success of that “modern stone-age family “The Flintstones” just a year or so before. Unfortunately Tc was not the rating smash that Fred and company were, so only one season (30 half hour episodes) were produced. But the kitty con-artist and his pals endured as a Saturday morning staple, then a syndicated smash. As beloved as the show was in its native Us, “Top Cat” was an even bigger hit overseas,...

"Quick Draw": Funny Frontier Justice
Sneak Peek footage, images and synopsis, from the new 'Old West' comedy series "Quick Draw", starring writer, actor John Lehr as 'John Henry Hoyle', a new sheriff in the 1875 Kansas town of 'Great Bend', premiering August 5, 2013 on Hulu.

Not since TV's "F Troop" and Mel Brooks' "Blazing Saddles" has there been an attempt at a film parody of the 'cowboy' genre, as Lehr satirizes "Deadwood" with the forensic procedures of "CSI":

"...a 'Harvard' graduate who studied forensic science, as well as being a remarkably good shot, 'Sheriff Hoyle' (Lehr) is also kind of a dummy, in a hilarious way.

"Joined by a cast of characters that includes 'Deputy Eli Brocias' (Nicholas Brown), a madam/saloon-owner named 'Honey Shaw' (Allison Dunbar), and a hodgepodge of colorful locals, outlaws, and ladies of the night, Sheriff Hoyle is tasked with bringing law and order to 'Great Bend'...

"...earning the respect of the townspeople,...
