BBC Studios France to remake 'Doctor Foster'
French production arm lands first scripted order.

BBC Studios’ French production arm is to remake Doctor Foster in France in its first scripted production for the region.

French broadcaster TF1 has ordered a 6 x 52-minute version of the drama and will begin filming this month in Biarritz and the Nouvelle Aquitaine region.

BBC Studios will co-produce the show with French indie Storia Télévision.

It was previously reported that Luc Besson’s seven-year-old studio EuropaCorp TV would adapt the drama after optioning the rights last year with an eye on co-producing with BBC France, but the business has since exited the project.

BBC’s ‘Doctor Foster’ Getting French Remake for TF1
The BBC has sealed its first scripted format deal in France, striking an agreement with TF1 for a local version of its hit drama series “Doctor Foster.”

French actress-singer Claire Keim (“Insoupconnable”) will take the lead role of Emma Sandrelli in the TF1 version.

Drama Republic made the British series, which has had two seasons. BBC Studios’ French division and Storia Television will produce for TF1, France’s largest commercial broadcaster. It will be renamed “Infidele” (“Unfaithful”) and directed by Didier Le Pecheur.

The screenplay will be adapted by Helene Duchateau, Baptiste Filleul and Pierre Linhart. Filming starts this month in Biarritz and in the Nouvelle Aquitaine region.

BBC Studios has already shopped the format to Star Media for Russia,...

Suranne Jones in Docteur Foster (2015)
British infidelity drama Doctor Foster is being remade in France with Claire Keim (Insoupçonnable) taking on the main role made famous by Suranne Jones.

The series, which tells the story of a woman who finds out her husband is having an affair and the subsequent chaos it causes, is being produced for French commercial broadcaster TF1.

It is being produced by Storia Télévision, the French business that acquired a number of the television assets of Luc Besson’s Europacorp earlier this year and is owned by Mediawan, set up by French entrepreneurs Pierre-Antoine Capton, Xavier Niel and Matthieu Pigasse. It had previously emerged last year that Besson’s firm would produce a local adaptation of Doctor Foster. It is being produced in association with BBC Studios’ French production division. The six-part series will begin filming this month in Biarritz and in the Nouvelle Aquitaine region.
