“Lou & Leo” toplines Isak Férriz, key cast in Netflix global hit “Burning Body,” and Julia Sulleiro. Written by Carlos C. Tomé and Carlos Solano, “Leo & Lou” marks Solano’s debut as a feature film director after his Goya-nominated short film “Strangers on the Road.”

Bank Under Siege Review: Political Drama Reimagined
Image
In the early stages of Spain’s democracy, a risky bank robbery would become a turning point to test the country’s new political order. “Bank Under Siege” brings back to life the amazing events of May 23, 1981, when eleven men in masks broke into Barcelona’s Central Bank and turned what seemed like a heist into a powerful political statement.

Three months after a failed military coup to remove Spain’s new democratic government, these thieves took more than 200 hostages. They demanded that Colonel Antonio Tejero and the other people who were involved in the coup be freed. What at first looked like a simple criminal operation turned out to be a complicated political move meant to throw off the country’s delicate shift to democracy.

The show is set in Spain after Franco’s death and shows a country still dealing with its authoritarian past. King Juan Carlos and...

‘Bank Under Siege’ Netflix Review: Yet Another Miniseries That Could Have Been A Movie
Image
Netflix releases a lot of miniseries every year, and a lot of them fail to justify why they needed to tell their stories in an episodic fashion instead of taking the feature film route. If we take a look at the streaming platform’s 2024 slate so far, Fool Me Once was absolutely atrocious. The Indrani Mukerjea Story seemed like an overlong PR stunt. Baby Reindeer was phenomenal, sure. Eric was so goddamn listless. Ic 814: The Kandahar Hijack seemed like a live-action version of the incident’s Wikipedia page. The Perfect Couple seemed so disinterested in its own story. And then there was The Last Night at Tremore Beach, which spent over 8 hours spinning some elaborate tale and then eventually revealed that maybe all of it had been a figment of its protagonist’s mind. Now, we have Bank Under Siege in our hands. Does it justify its miniseries tag?...

Is 'Infiesto' Based on a True Story?
Image
The new Netflix crime thriller, Infiesto, is making its way toward the top of the streamer's most watched list. The film directed bt Patxi Amezcua is a grim tale of a group of missing young teenagers that are believed to be dead until a young girl shows up, beaten, bruised and in shock on the same day that the country enters into a government mandated lockdown due to the coronavirus. They don't come a whole lot darker than this film that was shot around the well-known Asturias mountains in the northwestern portion of Spain. The movie benefits from the performances of Iria del Río and Isak Férriz as two detectives that set out to find the other missing children while being hamstrung by the pandemic protocols. With its use of real locations and the very real Covid-19 outbreak as a backdrop for the gritty thriller, it got us interested to...

‘Infiesto’ (2023) Netflix Movie. Review: A Dark Investigator Thriller
Image
Infiesto is a Spanish movie written and directec by Patxi Amezcua starring Isak Férriz, Iria del Río and José Manuel Poga.

Infiesto takes us through backwater Spain in a dark thriller with secrets and devious characters. It is visually attractive, especially the surroundings.

About the Movie

The plot you might say is similar to Twin Peaks. It starts the same but later it is more a horror thriller in the vein of the trilogy of Baztán.

This movie is entertaining enough, well made visually and above all, knows how to use that “star landscape” that is so romantic which shapes the movie in a good way.

The director does a good job in this third feature film (previously he had directed Séptimo and Carat): knows what he wants, how to direct a thriller and create the right atmosphere, know what to rely on and be guided by the cold...

Netflix’s Suspense-Thriller ‘Below Zero’ is a Chilling Fight for Survival
Image
Photo: 'Below Zero'/Netflix Violence and suspense are the name of the game in the new Spanish Netflix original film ‘Below Zero’, or ‘Bajocero’, the second feature-length directorial outing from co-scriptwriter Lluís Quílez. In the film, a National Police Corps officer named Martín (Javier Gutiérrez) transfers to a new precinct and his first assignment is to drive a prisoner transport truck in the dead of night. Gutiérrez’s starring role in ‘Below Zero’ marks his fourth Netflix film, after ‘The Motive’, ‘Mirage’, and ‘The Occupant’. Martín’s new partner Montesinos (Isak Férriz), a rule-bender, who for instance likes wearing an earring even though it’s not allowed, explains to Martín that the time of the transfer is random and last minute so that everything is safer and more discreet. For the same reasons, they can’t take their cellphones with them. A prisoner transfer in the middle of the night?...

Javier Gutiérrez in Froid mortel (2021)
US Trailer for Prison Transport Action Thriller 'Below Zero' from Spain
Javier Gutiérrez in Froid mortel (2021)
"You did something, and we're not going to pay for it." Netflix has revealed an official US trailer for Below Zero, an action thriller from Catalonian filmmaker Lluís Quílez (Out of the Dark). In the middle of a foggy, cold night, a prison van carrying convicts is assaulted. The driver, Martin, will need to defend himself from those inside and those outside if he wants to make it out alive. This reminded me of Con Air at first glance, but with a big prison bus driving through winter in Spain. The film's cast includes Javier Gutiérrez, Àlex Monner, Patrick Criado, Édgar Vittorino, Karra Elejalde, Florin Opritescu, Luis Callejo, and Isak Férriz. This actually looks like an intense, chilly thriller to enjoy at home this winter. Fire it up below. Here's the official trailer (+ two Spanish posters) for Lluís Quílez's Below Zero, direct from YouTube: On a lonely road, a prison transport is brutally assaulted.

The directing duo behind the underrated Carriers, Alex and David Pastor, return for yet another slice of post-apocalyptic horror with The Last Days, which sees a mysterious epidemic known as The Panic spread across the planet – essentially extreme agoraphobia, this new-found irrational fear of open spaces leads to instant death and soon the world’s population remains trapped inside buildings afraid to move. As Barcelona descends into chaos Marc embarks on a citywide quest to search for his pregnant girlfriend Julia without setting foot outside. Teaming up with his hated boss Enrique who was just about to fire him, this means travelling via sewer, subway line, cellars and basements, avoiding opportunistic feral gangs, armed only with a failing Gps device and lots of ingenuity.
