While dedicated cinephiles are inclined to go back and appreciate the Marx Brothers, Harold Lloyd, or Charlie Chaplin films, the average moviegoer isn't. This is even applicable to more "recent" releases like 16 Candles or Dodgeball: A True Underdog Story, both of which haven't aged as well as fans had hoped. Due to this trend of comedy not being evergreen, it feels foolish to say that any one niche comedy subgenre will survive the test of time, but if anything can do it,...

Jesse Eisenberg and Kieran Culkin are currently earning raves for their new film, A Real Pain, with the former also serving as the film's director. The pair showcase an easygoing chemistry in the film, playing mismatched cousins, and it looks like some of that chemistry started back in 2009 when Culkin auditioned for the great 2009 romantic comedy Adventureland. The actor didn't land a part in the film, but he left a lasting impression on Eisenberg when he got a bit touchy during the audition.

During an appearance on Late Night with Seth Meyers, Eisenberg shared the odd experience of meeting Culkin for the first time back when Kieran auditioned for a role in Adventureland. In a video posted Tuesday on Twitter, Julia Louis-Dreyfus, Kumail Nanjiani and several other stars called SAG-AFTRA members to vote in favor of authorizing an actors’ strike ahead of the guild’s negotiations with studios next month.

“I’m asking you to join me in voting ‘yes’ on the strike authorization,” Louis-Dreyfus says in the video, which she posted on Twitter under the caption “We’re a union, and a union stands together!”

SAG-AFTRA members: Vote Yes to the Strike Authorization by June 5th!

Voting yes is Not a vote to strike. It gives the board the Power to strike if the AMPTP doesn’t agree to...

A group of SAG-AFTRA members, including Julia Louis-Dreyfus, Jean Smart and Bob Balaban, has released a video urging their fellow performers to approve the strike authorization that’s currently out for a vote of the guild’s eligible members.

The vote comes in advance of the guild’s upcoming negotiations with the Alliance of Motion Picture and Television Producers, which are set to start on June 7. A strike, if it comes to that, could not start before June 30, when the guild’s current contract expires.

The Directors Guild, meanwhile, is currently in negotiations with the AMPTP. Their contract also expires on June 30, and the Writers Guild has been on strike for 29 days.

"I'm the dying guy!" "I'm the other guy!" Netflix has released the first full trailer for an indie comedy titled Paddleton, the latest feature from the director of Blue Jay. The film is premiering at the 2019 Sundance Film Festival in a few weeks, then arrives on Netflix in February. Paddleton is about the unlikely friendship between two misfit neighbors when one of them is diagnosed with terminal cancer. They go on an emotional journey together, chasing emus and getting into all kinds of wacky trouble, of course. The film stars Ray Romano and Mark Duplass, who co-wrote the screenplay with the director. The small cast also includes Marguerite Moreau, Christine Woods, Alexandra Billings, and Matt Bush. Epic Pictures Group has released the official trailer for Sharon 1.2.3., a dating comedy from filmmaker/screenwriter Mark Brown (who wrote the original script for Barbershop and its sequels). He's now dating two beautiful, older, women, both named Sharon, and things get even crazier when he meets a third woman named Sharon. Why does this seem like the most cliche nerd fantasy ever? Second feature from Forest Whitaker’s digital studio JuntoBox Films was greenlit last year at Afm.

Romantic comedy Sharon 1.2.3., written and directed by Mark Brown, has commenced principal photography in Los Angeles.

The second feature from Forest Whitaker’s digital studio JuntoBox Films stars Matt Bush as Jonah, a 22-year old technology geek who’s having casual sex with two women coincidentally named Sharon who then meets a third Sharon who he falls in love with. The three Sharons will be played by Skylar Samuels, Nadine Velasquez and Erinn Hayes.

Based on a story by Wesley Mills, Sharon 1.2.3. was greenlit at last year’s Afm and is a result of JuntoBox Film’s crowdsourcing model. This allows filmmakers to upload projects directly to the JuntoBox site and then rate and vote on projects to be selected.

The film is produced by Nina Yang Bongiovi and Kelly Thomas.

Fox Digital Studio announced today that the series Bad Samaritans and the feature Shotgun Wedding will premiere on Netflix on March 31 and April 1, respectively. The Walt Becker-produced Bad Samaritans will have all episodes of its first season available simultaneously. The first five days of the 2012 Austin Film Festival have been a challenging frame. For a festival with such a rich history and strong commitment to promoting the work of great storytellers, the overall line-up has been anything but noteworthy. The fest’s biggest (and arguably best) film, Silver Linings Playbook, is an obvious stand-out. But I’ll have more on that later. For now, we’re going to take a look at three comedies that have emerged as clear reasons why there’s hope for the Austin Film Festival programming staff. Apparently, I’m the “stoner comedy” guy at JustPressPlay. That’s fine. I can live with that. After reviewing Mac & Devin, I declared a personal vendetta against stoner flicks, however; John Stalberg's High School has changed my opinion. For the better.

The day after valedictorian Henry (Matt Bush) takes his first hit of “da chronic,” his high school principal (Michael Chiklis, equal parts creepy and menacing here) decides to institute mandatory drug testing for the entire student body after the school’s spelling bee champ flubs a word due to being stoned out of her brain. John Gulager Talks Piranha 3Dd, on Blu-ray today!

Director John Gulager came to the public's attention with the third and final installment of HBO's filmmaking series Project Greenlight 3, which spawned the horror franchise Feast. After churning out this wackadoo monster trilogy, Gulager wasted no time in setting up his next project, the sequel Piranha 3Dd, which moves the action to a water park.

Arriving on Blu-ray this week, it might be easy to write off the film as a quick cash grab that dines on the gory bones of its predecessor, which was directed by fellow horror auteur Alexandre Aja. But no, John Gulager actually has a strong voice that is all his own, and this new flesh-eating fish tale is comparable to when Piranha Part Two: The Spawning's James Cameron took over for original director Joe Dante. Yes, we truly believe, a few years down the line,...

Chicago – “Piranha 3Dd” is such a pathetic excuse for entertainment that it doesn’t even deserve to be regarded as a film. It’s just soft-core porn stuffed with shoddy special effects. The titillation factor is zilch and the scare factor is even lower than that. Even frat boys under the influence of multiple drugs may have difficulty finding this dreck watchable, let alone funny.

Director John Gulager is the Project Greenlight winner whose 2005 schlock-fest, “Feast,” still remains his crowning achievement. He appears to have no knowledge of why camp has the potential to be amusing. Truly funny camp must be constructed with a degree of sincerity. “The Room” is a timeless comedy classic because its eccentric creator, Tommy Wiseau, mistakenly thought he was making a searing relationship drama. You simply can’t make a movie like that on purpose. Everyone who does fails spectacularly.

Matt Bush has been a hot commodity since he was featured in the 2009 Jesse Eisenberg comedy "Adventureland." Soon afterward, he landed a starring role on the TBS comedy "Glory Daze" as a freshman rushing a fraternity.

Now 26, Bush has the pot-centric comedy "High School" and "Piranha 3Dd" both hitting Blu-ray and DVD this week. In "High School," he plays valedictorian Henry Burke, who conspires with a friend to get his entire school high to sabotage a drug test so he doesn't lose his scholarship. In "Piranha 3Dd," he may or may not be fish food.

We chatted with Bush, who will next be seen in "Trouble With the Curve" (opening Sept. 21), about his various roles, which superhero he'd love to play and what exactly he was smokin' on set.

"High School" was finished a few years ago. What are you most excited for people to see now that it's finally coming out?...

Matt Bush is an actor who has always chosen diverse roles to appear in. Following guest-starring stints on shows like Veronica Mars and Scrubs, he landed roles in movies such as Adventureland, Halloween II, Nice Guy Johnny, Margaret and this year's Piranha 3Dd. He can next be seen in High School, arriving on Blu-ray and DVD September 4. I recently had the chance to speak with the actor about the indie comedy, where he portrays a high school valedictorian who tries to ruin his school's new mandatory drug test, since he just tried marijuana for the first time ever. Take a look at what he had to say.

I have to imagine this was quite a read when you first picked up this script. Can you talk about your initial reactions to this crazy story?...

“I’m surprised this hasn’t happened sooner…” No truer words could represent the existence of John Stalberg Jr.’s High School, a film that sat on a shelf following a blistering run at Sundance in 2010, only to be released theatrically, in a very limited fashion, in June of this year. It’s the simple tale of two former friends whose paths have diverged in their later teen years. Henry Burke (Matt Bush) is the soon-to-be Valedictorian of his class, with a promising future awaiting him at M.I.T. Travis Breaux (Sean Marquette) is a burnout who spends more time wiping sharpie marker penises off his face than he does hitting the books. After a pre-school accident lands them together in detention, Breaux convinces Henry that his path to relaxation must go through the forrest of the sticky green, the cannabis sativa. And so they smoke marijuanna, not knowing that tomorrow will bring about a school-wide...

When it was initially suggested that Piranha 3Dd wouldn’t be receiving a theatrical release in the UK there was somewhat of an uproar. That wasn’t because we’d seen anything of the sequel to Alexandre Aja’s 2010 remake that promised anything spectacular, but more because Aja’s film was such an unexpected delight and that we assumed the sequel couldn’t deviate too far from that winning formula.

The title too suggested that the same tongue-in-cheek approach had been adopted, so understandably we thought it seemed like a very good thing when the decision was reversed and Piranha 3Dd was given the chance to play at cinemas.

We were wrong.

Ultimately the film only stuck around in theatres for two weeks, and you have to feel sorry for anyone who parted with their hard-earned cash to watch this rubbish. To suggest that doubling the D’s refers to...

I can’t say any strong writing is being shown off here, weak for Eastwood who certainly knows drama (Million Dollar Baby). Clint Eastwood is a veteran of the Hollywood industry, having established his legendary status both in front of and behind the camera. 2008′s Gran Torino was speculated by many to be his swan song as an actor; however, Eastwood proved those rumours false when he signed on to Trouble With the Curve as an aging baseball talent scout. This is the first time Eastwood will be onscreen under the directorial guidance of someone other than himself since 1993′s In the Line of Fire, as his regular second-unit director Robert Lorenz takes the reins this time around. The first trailer for the baseball drama Trouble with the Curve has been released.  Clint Eastwood stars as an aging scout whose daughter (Amy Adams)  reluctantly agrees to accompany him on one last crucial recruiting trip.  Though the jokes are a bit hokey, the film looks to have a genuinely strong story anchored by the chemistry trifecta of Eastwood, Adams, and Justin Timberlake.  Adams has the chance to shine in a strong female role, and the characters don't seem to be overshadowed by some win-chasing plot device that propels many sports dramas.  Moreover, 90s staple Matthew Lillard pops up in yet another prestigious drama and somehow fits right in.
