Biography

    • James Holloway is a graduate from the world-renown London Academy of Music and Dramatic Art (LAMDA), holding a Master's Classical Acting. He won the BroadwayWorld Award-Los Angeles for Best Featured Actor in 'Broken Fences' at The Road Theatre Company and won Best Actor at First Run Film Festival for his work in 'Jackson Parish' (BET). James has garnered high praise for his stage work at Tony Award-winning and prominent theaters throughout the country, earning himself an Audelco Award Nomination for his work in the Off-Broadway play 'Separate and Equal'.

Variety praised James for his "keenly drawn hostile edge" as the lead in the play, History of the Word, at the Tony Award-winning Crossroads Theater. For his performance in Fences, The Philadelphia Inquirer noted his "compelling intensity" and praised his scenes as "the show's best". He was pictured in The New York Times for his portrayal of Malcolm in Shakespeare's Macbeth. In A Few Good Men, his powerful performance contributed to bringing the audience to a standing ovation every night. Those ovations followed him to Geva Theatre, where the Democrat and Chronicle raved about his "first-rate" and "flawless" performance as Franco Wicks in Superior Donuts. He worked with the Primetime Emmy Award-winning writer, Tom Fontana, on the stage adaptation of The Men, and he used his "appealing stage presence" to star alongside Laverne & Shirley's, Cindy Williams, in Weekend Comedy at The New Theatre.

Notable television and film includes 'The Newsroom' (HBO), 'Law & Order: SVU' (NBC), 'Grey's Anatomy' (ABC), 'Sam & Cat' (Nickelodeon), 'Masters of Sex' (Showtime), 'The Roe Effect' (HBO), 'The Cycle' (HBO), and 'Jackson Parish' (BET).

James has been featured in national network television commercials, and he has also supplied voice-overs on national and global campaigns.

He began his training with Freedom Theater in Philadelphia, studied with the legendary Wynn Handman, and his B.F.A. from the Conservatory of Acting at SUNY-Purchase made him a lifetime member of the Purchase Mafia.
