Jenn is a petite, tattooed actor, writer and producer. She has a dark, quick-witted sense of humor, comedic timing and infectious optimism. Jenn was born in Youngstown, Ohio, in 1985, to Karen and Steven Shagrin. The entertainment industry is woven into Jenn's DNA: the Shagrin great grandfather Joe and his twin Max grew up with the Warner Brothers and earned rank amongst Hollywood's early legacies. After joining the Warner Brothers in Hollywood, Max Shagrin was district manager for WB Studios, discovering and representing classic talent like June Withers, Ed Begley Sr., Betty Garde, Dorothea Kent and many more.
Jenn Shagrin is of Jewish descent, further locking the industry into her genetic makeup. In 2004, at the age of 19, she wrote, starred and Executive Produced her first film, Desperate Hippies - a parody of Desperate Housewives. Some of the actors she cast include Cameron Monaghan, Alejandro Rose-Garcia (most known as Shakey Graves) and Aviva Baumann.
Jenn is known for her major recurring role on Season 5 of Reno 911!. In 2009, Jenn appeared in the high-school comedy Stay Cool, which stars Hilary Duff. She was also a series regular on The Horrible Terrible Misadventures of David Atkins - winner of the New York TV Fest "Characters Welcome" Award - also starring French Stewart, Janeane Garofalo, Tom Lennon and Orlando Jones. In 2004, Jenn was cast in her first studio feature, Freedom Writers, in which she collaborated with Oscar-winner Hilary Swank.
Her internationally published cookbook Veganize This! hit the shelves on January 11th, 2011. After a 10-year hiatus to focus on writing and creative development, Jenn Shagrin has returned to her theatrical career. She and her wife, playwright Iris Farrou, co-founded production company Crumpled Thoughts Inc. and relaunched Jenn's hybrid creative recipe + comedic "shameless nonfiction" anecdotes blog--with an even darker sense of queer humor.
