Indie Music-Themed ‘We Forgot to Break Up’ Boarded by Filmoption – Cannes (Exclusive)

Canadian distributor and global sales agent Filmoption International has acquired international sales rights, excluding Canada, for film “We Forgot to Break Up” and has launched sales at the Cannes Film Festival’s market.

Based on Kayt Burgess’s award-winning book “Heidegger Stairwell,” and written by Noel S. Baker, Pat Mills and Zoe Whittall, the film follows a diverse group of musicians who form a band to spark a musical revolution. As their band, “The New Normals,” rises to fame, they navigate personal and romantic complexities, creating a rock sound that transcends gender and orientation. “We Forgot to Break Up” aims to offer an authentic portrayal of music, love, and friendship in the early 2000s indie music scene as the protagonists strive to make their voices heard and forge an unshakable bond that transcends labels.

Original Exclusive Sept 1, 2.30Pm Pst: Thriller Die Alone, starring Carrie-Anne Moss (The Matrix franchise), Douglas Smith (Big Little Lies), Frank Grillo (Captain America) and Kimberly-Sue Murray (V Wars), has switched international sales companies from Archstone — which launched the project in Cannes — to Myriad Pictures.

The Minds Eye Entertainment production recently wrapped production in Saskatchewan. Above is a first look at Moss in the movie, which has already quietly sold to Quiver for U.S. right and Filmoption for Canada.

Canada native Moss, best known for playing Trinity in The Matrix franchise, will be seen next year in Star Wars spinoff series The Acolyte.

For the millions of people who have sexual characteristics that don’t neatly fit into the typical definitions of male or female, life is a constant struggle against misconceptions, biases and cultural norms that, from the moment of birth, attempt to fit us into the box that defines our sex — and, often, how we’ll be perceived for the rest of our lives.

To explore that conflict, veteran Romanian actor Tünde Skovrán — making her directorial debut — traveled to South Africa to follow two intersex people with parallel but divergent lives: Sharon-Rose Khumalo, a beauty queen who suffers an identity crisis after finding out she’s intersex, and Dimakatso Sebidi, a male-presenting intersex activist who is in many ways Khumalo’s polar opposite.

Level 33 Entertainment Takes U.S. Rights For ‘Montréal Girls’ – EFM

Exclusive: Los Angeles-based sales and distribution company Level 33 Entertainment has taken U.S. rights to Canadian-Salvadorean director Patricia Chica’s feature directorial debut Montréal Girls.

Newcomer Hakim Brahimi stars as Ramy, a conservative young man who embarks on a journey of self-discovery as he navigates the free-spirited subcultures of Montréal in search of love and enlightenment.

Montréal Girls is produced by Bahija Essoussi and Samuel Gagnon of Objectif 9 in association with Patricia Chica’s production company Flirt Films. Chica also co-wrote the screenplay with U.S. writer and director Kamal John Iskander.

The deal for the film was negotiated between Canadian distributor and executive producer Paul Cadieux of Filmoption International and Andreas Olavarria, president and CEO of Level 33 Entertainment.
