Sophia made her feature film acting, producing and production design
debut in "Lbs.", nominated for a 2011 Independent Spirit Award. "LBS."
made its world premiere at the 2004 Sundance Film Festival and was
nominated for the Alfred P. Sloan Award and screened at many festivals
winning Best Feature Film at the Deep Ellum Film Festival and
Avignon/New York Film Festival. "Lbs." made its limited theatrical
release March 2010 in NYC and across the country.
Miss. Antonini co-produced, production designed and acted in her second feature film, "Amexicano", which made it's world premiere at the 2007 Tribeca Film Festival. "Amexicano" was the Grand Jury Prize - THX Winner at Sonoma Valley Film Festival and also screened at the HBO New York Latino Film Festival, Jacob Burns Center, Atlanta's High Museum of Art - (22nd Annual Latin American Film Festival), Cucalorus Film Festival, Vallarta Film Festival and others. "Amexicano" was acquired by Maya Pictures and enjoyed a limited theatrical release in 2008. It is available on DVD online via Amazon, Netflix, Blockbuster, Walmart, and Target.
Her writing debut (also producer), "New Boobs" (Seattle International Film Group's 2006 One Reel Film Festival at Bumbershoot, 2006 Florida Film Festival, 2006 Inspiration Film Festival), was one of six projects commissioned by the newly formed AtomFilms Studio and is currently playing on the AtomFilms website with over one million downloads. "New Boobs" is ranked one of the Top 5 Comedy Shorts since it premiered in April 2006 - it is the most viewed commissioned short of all time. AtomFilms partners include Comedy Central, Spike TV and are a service of MTV Networks.
At the 2006 Tribeca Film Festival's first annual Tropfest@Tribeca, co-jurors Matt Dillon and Naomi Watts awarded Miss. Antonini's second writing effort (also producer), "The Watering Hole", the Grand Jury Prize. The award jury also included Darren Aronofsky, Caroline Baron, Famke Janssen, Anthony LaPaglia and Charles Randolph. Other short film credits include "From Woodside, Queens" (Oscar-qualifying Aspen Shortsfest 2004) and "Bagelized!" (Oscar-qualifying 2006 Palms Springs Shortsfest, Aspen Shortsfest 2005).
In 2010, Miss. Antonini co-founded Orama Pictures with partner, Stavroula Toska. The first project under the banner is "Three Candles" (working title), a documentary focusing on the true life accounts of Greek women exiled to concentration camps during the Greek Civil War, Olympia Dukakis is attached to narrate. Sophia attends the School of Visual Arts earning a Bachelors of Fine Arts degree in Screenwriting (expected graduation 2013).
