While vampires are known to turn into bats in fiction, British actor Robert Pattinsonis probably the only person known to have done just that in real life, making his initial breakthrough as vampire Edward Cullen in the Twilight franchise before capping off his ascendance to stardom by becoming the latest actor to take on the eponymous hero in the Batman franchise. His latest role is as the down-on-his-luck protagonist in Bong Joon-ho's sci-fi dark comedy, Mickey 17 (2025); it's the director's first film since his brilliant, Oscar-winning satire Parasite (2019).
But devoted fans of Pattinson will know that Mickey 17 is not the first sci-fi film in which he portrays a destitute man forced by a dystopian government into embarking on a mission that he is unlikely to survive. Nor is it his first time collaborating with an acclaimed director from outside the US and the UK. Indeed, Pattinson already satisfied both...

Thrillers can keep viewers on the edge of their seats with their intense plot twists and reveals and leave a lasting impression on not just the audience, but the entire genre as a whole. The most incredible thriller movies utilize a well-constructed backstory and effective world-building to create intricate lore that serves as the perfect backdrop against the action-filled thrills.
Whether a movie gets a sequel depends on several factors, ranging from elements like audience reception and commercial success to the availability of the actors and the creator's vision for the story. However, there are some beloved thriller movies that could benefit from a sequel that further explores the setting and characters and builds on the first movie but don't have any sequels planned.

In the final moments of Claire Deniss introspective sci-fi drama High Life, Robert Pattinsons criminal-turned-astronaut-turned-dad Monte and his teenage daughter, Willow (Jessie Ross), come across a spaceship identical to the one they are in. The only difference is the number on the ships carcass, which indicates that it left Earth after Montes mission. Adrift for many years decades, even Monte decides to board the ship in the hopes of finding someone to guide them home or any other kind of assistance. From their own ship, young Willow watches through a screen as her father climbs on deck to find not a human crew, but a pack of semi-feral dogs, some of which seem to be long dead. Its a shocking, heartbreaking scene that echoes Montes own backstory. It also fits like a glove in this dismaying tale that asks hard questions about what makes us human, and how much of...

The new HBO miniseries The Third Day begins with a leisurely, God’s-eye view of a verdant English country road, disturbing music, and the unmistakable sound of Jude Law’s voice in distress saying, “What? Oh, no, no, no, no, no.” It’s early morning, and the character he’s playing, Sam, is already having a terrible day — one that is about to get exponentially worse. His travels then take him to a stream in the woods, where he is just barely in time to rescue a teenage girl named...

High Life is directed by Claire Denis and is her thirteenth film in an esteemed critically acclaimed filmography, but also stands as a few firsts; being her English language debut and her first collaboration with teen heartthrob turned indie megastar, Robert Pattinson. High Life is a low budget high concept sensual thriller. It’s boisterously provocative and sensually stoic. A conundrum of explicit desire and morbid curiosity that burns its way into your brain with an illustrious haze of pragmatic intensity.
The filmmaking on offer is simply superb with the cinematography from Yorick Le Sau being a stellar highlight. The framing and composition are distant and therefore evokes this highly daunting theme of isolation. It...

As the vampire stud of the Twilight franchise, Robert Pattinson hit multiplex paydirt. Since then, he’s been raising his personal bar in the indie sphere (Good Time, Damsel). The star does himself proud in this elusive but bracing brainteaser from Claire Denis, the great French filmmaker (Beau Travail, Trouble Every Day) who’d much rather challenge audiences than coddle them. High Life is the writer-director’s first film in English, and the only one set in space. In the script she wrote with Jean-Pol Fargeau, her concerns about existence...

A24 has unveiled the first trailer for High Life. Robert Pattinson may have started out his career as the dude from Twilight, but he's since gone on to become a truly terrific actor in his own right who is constantly making interesting choices that seem to be motivated creatively, as opposed to for financial gain. In this case, he's taking part in a sci-fi/thriller that sees him raising a daughter all alone in space in a less than ideal and very tense situation.
We start off with some footage of Robert Pattinson raising his baby daughter in what looks like a rather normal day to day fatherly scenario, save for the fact that he's doing so in space. It's mostly atmospheric, with strange and alluring shots of unwitting astronauts aboard this vessel, seemingly at odds with one another. As things progress, the tension rises and something is clearly not as it should be.

Robert Pattinson has a new sci-fi space thriller coming out called High Life and it actually looks pretty damn good. The movie doesn’t look anything like I expected it to be and that’s a good thing. It looks better, darker, and more insane.
The story centers on Pattinson’s character who is on board a spacecraft that filled with convicts and death row inmates who are being used as guinea pigs in a mission heading towards the black hole closest to Earth. There’s a lot more involved with the story than just that, though. Here’s the full synopsis:
Deep space. Beyond our solar system. Monte and his infant daughter Willow live together aboard a spacecraft, in complete isolation. A solitary man, whose strict self-discipline is a protection against desire –his own and that of others– Monte fathered the girl against his will. His sperm was used to inseminate Boyse,...
