Netflix is dipping into the world of Dutch reality with a series following Yolanthe Cabau’s journey to LA, while the streamer is adapting Saskia Noort’s The Dinner Club.

The Spanish-Dutch An Egypt Affair star will be the focus of a show that was unveiled at a Next on Netflix event in Amsterdam this afternoon.

In the untitled reality series, cameras will follow Cabau as she leaves the Dutch capital for Tinseltown with son Xess Xava. As she faces her past, the audience discovers why Cabau, who used to be married to Dutch soccer star Wesley Sneijder, left the limelight, and which childhood secrets continue to haunt her.

“I made a conscious decision to step out of the spotlight for a while to focus on myself and Xess,” she said. “The past few years have been challenging, but I can confidently say that I am more empowered than ever.

Viaplay Sets True-Life Disaster Story ‘Roombeek’ As Latest Dutch Original Drama Series

Viaplay has ordered its latest Dutch original: a four-part drama from Banjiay Benelux label EndemolShine Scripted about the 2000 Enschede fireworks warehouse explosion titled Roombeek. The horrific tragedy killed 23 people and injured 950 and the series will explore its devastating human impact and aftermath. Casting for the series is underway, and production will begin in early 2023, with EndemolShine Scripted’s Gerd-Jan van Dalen and Viaplay Group’s Kennard Bos producing. Having launched in the Netherlands in March, Viaplay’s scripted original slate from the territory includes true crime drama The Hunt for Jasper S., produced by Willem Bosch and Pieter Kuijpers; dark comedy Something Stupid, created by novelist Saskia Noort; and Liesbeth Strik’s drama The Guilty. Viaplay Sets Debut Dutch Drama Duo From Saskia Noort And Liesbeth Strik

Exclusive: Nent streamer Viaplay has unveiled its debut duo of Dutch dramas as it prepares to launch in The Netherlands tomorrow, Deadline can reveal.

Something Stupid and The Guilty come from best-selling Dutch novelist Saskia Noort and Liesbeth Strik, as the streamer targets 60 originals this year and expands into the UK and U.S. as well as The Netherlands.

Noort, dubbed ‘The Dutch Queen of Suspense’, is behind Something Stupid, a dark comedy following three women seeking revenge on the man who betrayed them, which explores themes of equality and exploitation in the TV industry.

Meanwhile, Strik is behind The Guilty, a thriller about a mother attempting to keep her teenage son out of prison.

Nent Group Chief Content Officer Filippa Wallestam described the shows as “compelling, thought-provoking and above all unique.”

High Point gets Renovation
Carey Fitzgerald’s High Point Films & TV has locked worldwide distribution rights for Dutch thriller Renovation.

Tjitske Reidinga, known for her role as Claire in Endemol’s TV series Gooische Vrouwen, stars as an ambitious plastic surgeon who finds herself drawn into a dangerous world of adultery and extortion by a wealthy former lover.

Adapted from the Saskia Noort’s best-selling novel, Renovation is produced by Gijs van de Westelaken’s Amsterdam-based Column Film.

The pact marks the fourth title High Point has acquired from the company after Deal, 06/05 and Cool.

”Renovation is slick and compelling viewing for audiences looking for edge of the seat thrillers with a sexy twist of glamour,” said Fitzgerald.

The film surrounds the stalking and attempted murder of a woman who chooses to have an abortion and escape her abusive boyfriend and an unknown assailant. The Dark House is a new Dutch thriller based on a popular novel called "Back to the Coast" ("Terug naar de kust") written by crime-writer and freelance journalist Saskia Noort. No, we don't know much about this one, but since we were all immediately impressed by the photography in this first trailer we decided to help spread the word.

Synopsis:

Soul singer Maria chooses to abort an unplanned pregnancy rather than bring a third child into her already chaotic life. This single action ends up destroying everything in her life as an unknown and increasingly malevolent stalker harasses her for choosing an abortion. Fleeing her life and former boyfriend in Amsterdam, Maria returns to her family home on the desolate seaside to stay with her social-worker older sister, abandoning everything except her children in a desperate bid to escape.
