Liverpool soccer star Diogo Jota and his younger brother, André Silva, have both died in a car crash in Spain.

Just after midnight on July 3, Jota and Silva were found dead after the older brother’s car crashed and burst into flames near Cernadilla, Zamora in northwestern Spain, according to police.

Spain’s Guardia Civil said in a statement that their investigation “points to a road accident due to a burst tire while overtaking” another vehicle, which occurred at 12:30 a.m., local time.

The police noted that the Lamborghini then caught fire.

Police mentioned that the bodies of the brothers were taken to a forensics unit in Zamora, where autopsies would be performed.

Liverpool and Portuguese international soccer player Diogo Jota and his brother, André Silva, were killed in a car accident early Thursday morning in Spain.

The cause of the accident is not entirely clear, but local police report the driver lost control after one of the car’s rear tires was punctured. The car then burst into flames, and firefighters extinguished a blaze that extended across the local countryside.

Jota joined Liverpool from Wolves in 2020. He scored 65 goals in 182 appearances for the club. He won the Premier League title and the Fa Cup with Liverpool and the Championship title with Wolves in 2018. He was a two-time winner of the Nations League with Portugal.

The latest edition of our Global Sub Top 50 chart offers a mix of relative newcomers and old hands. MrBeast, who added two million new subscribers during the second full week of July, once again topped the ranking. Joining him in the top five were this week’s viewership leader Kimpro (#4) and T-Series (#5), the channel MrBeast passed to become YouTube’s subscriber leader.

Readers of this column may be sick of hearing about MrBeast, T-Series, and Kimpro by now, but the other members of the top five remind us that there’s always room for surprises in our charts.

The internet’s largest video site already dropped some numbers at last week’s digital-focused NewFronts, where it talked up its ad formats and performance stats to the media and marketing execs who are expected to spend over $10 billion this year to reach consumers online.

At the Upfronts? It swung big with Nielsen data showing that not only is it the #1 streaming service in the U.S. by watch time (and has been for the past 2+ years), it’s also been the #1 most-watched distributor of content across broadcast, cable, and streaming in the U.S. since February 2025.

And this, it tells brands and marketers, is a significant deal, because as of Q1 2025, TV is the primary device U.S. viewers use to watch YouTube.

Only two YouTube channels added more than 5 million new subscribers during November. One of those channels finished just above that line while the other saw its monthly new subscriber count balloon rise to eight million.

As you might have guessed, that massive gain belongs to the most-subscribed YouTuber of all time: MrBeast. One of the North Carolina-based creator’s collaborators, soccer star Cristiano Ronaldo, has said that he wants to make a bid for the YouTube subscriber title.
