Borderline is a dark comedy thriller film written and directed by Jimmy Warden. The 2025 film is set in the 1990s in Los Angeles, and it follows pop star and actress Sofia Minor as she comes under attack by Paul Duerson, an obsessive and deluded fan. Borderline stars Samara Weaving, Ray Nicholson, Jimmie Fails, Alba Baptista, and Eric Dane.

For as much as people like to poke fun at kid-oriented genre productions these days, the fact is that there has never been a better time to be a child with an interest in horror. From less gruesome spin-offs like Jurassic World’s Chaos Theory to spooky PG-13 adaptations like Five Nights at Freddy’s, gateway horror is no longer limited to the dark corners of the Scholastic book fair. That’s also why we’ve been seeing some less-orthodox examples of the genre lately, such as Rodrigo Perez-Castro and Ricardo Curtis’s Night of the Zoopocalypse – an animated kids film produced by none other than Hellraiser creator, Clive Barker.

Barker is no stranger to kid-friendly fiction, having already published several fantasy novels as well as a handful of comic-books aimed towards children and young adults, but Zoopocalypse is the first major motion picture to be based on the author’s less disturbing work.

Move over, Monster House, because there’s a new animated horror movie for kids in town. Based on a concept by horror master Clive Barker, directors and veteran animators Ricardo Curtis and Rodrigo Perez-Castro have brought Barker’s story to life in Night of the Zoopocalypse! While it’s rated PG, this is a film for all ages, perfect for kids and adults alike.

In the film, “After a meteor unleashes a virus that turns zoo animals into mutants, a mountain lion (David Harbour) and wolf (Gabbi Kosmidis) lead a team of surviving animals to stop the virus and rescue their zoo.“

Best-selling genre author Clive Barker has brought us the horrors of Rawhead Rex, Hellraiser, Nightbreed, Candyman, Lord of Illusions, The Midnight Meat Train, Dread, and Books of Blood, among other things – and his latest project is the animated comedy Night of the Zoopocalypse. Update March 10, 2025: Bong Joon Ho's Mickey 17 topped the box office in its first weekend of release, earning $19.1 million from March 7 to March 9. The Warner Bros. movie starring Robert Pattinson came in slightly under its $20 million forecast. Disney's latest Marvel movie Captain America: Brave New World held on for second place, adding $8.5 million to the film's total domestic gross of $176 million. Clive Barker’s iconic name will always be synonymous with the horror genre thanks to the big-screen adaptations of his most popular stories, which include the must-see Hellraiser (1987) and the classic Candyman (1992). Today, though, the author and filmmaker’s brainchild, ZOOmbies, has found life in the new film Night of the Zoopocalypse, which currently boasts a perfect 100% Tomatometer rating against 19 reviews posted to Rotten Tomatoes.

Night of the Zoopocalypse's Popcornmeter, formerly the Rt audience score, and its CinemaScore were not available at the time this story was published. However, the critics are practically doting on the Barker-inspired flick from directors Ricardo Curtis and Rodrigo Perez-Castro. Review: It’s hard out there for animated films not being produced by either Disney or Dreamworks. It seems as though most are dismissed without having those two companies attached. Yet some of the best animation in recent years has come from smaller studios. So it’s exciting to see a new animated film releasing, with neither juggernaut attached, and featuring a name that is sure to raise some eyebrows: Clive Barker. That’s right, the Hellraiser creator has taken time away from the world of the macabre and is instead focusing on family animation with Night of the Zoopocalypse.

It would be easy to write off Night of the Zoopocalypse as one of those stupid animated films cheaply made to generate a quick buck. To do that would be a mistake, though, because this comedy/horror film is a hilarious time and a solid animated movie for the whole family. Based on a concept from Hellraiser director Clive Barker, this tells a relatively exciting story of zoo animals facing a zombie crisis. This is worth a watch with a fast pace, solid animation, and a funny story.

Exclusive: Having worked together on The Amazing Maurice, distributor Viva Pictures and its newly-minted counterpart Kazoo Films will join forces for animated movie acquisitions. They will jointly acquire family-skewed films with LA-based Viva Pictures handling distribution in the U.S. and UK-based Kazoo taking rights on its home turf.

First up is Night of the Zoopocalypse. The animated film was inspired by a concept from iconic horror scribe Clive Barker. It follows events after a meteor containing a space virus crashes into a zoo, turning the animals into zombies. Two animals, a young wolf and old mountain lion, lead a group of survivors against their monstrous counterparts (check out the teaser below).

Night of the Zoopocalypse was directed by Rodrigo Perez-Castro and Ricardo Curtis and is produced by Copperheart Entertainment. Viva Pictures is releasing the film on March 7 in the U.S. Kazoo is prepping a Halloween release in the UK.

Popeye The Slayer Man: "Popeye the Slayer Man, a new horror feature exploring an alternate backstory for the legendary sailor, will be coming early 2025. The first trailer, stills, and teaser art have been released.

The film concerns a group of friends who sneak into an abandoned spinach canning factory to film a documentary on the legend of the “Sailor Man,” who is said to haunt the factory and local docks.

“We can’t wait for audiences to get a load of this gory and scary version of Popeye,” says producer Jeff Miller. “We went old-school and focused on using real practical effects, and not relying on CG for the gore. We’re talking with very enthusiastic and interested buyers now.”

Popeye the Slayer Man stars Sean Michael Conway, Elena Juliano, Mabel Thomas, Marie-Louise Boisnier, Jeff Thomas, and Steven McCormack, along with “scream queens” Angela Relucio and Sarah Nicklin. Jason Stephens plays the title role.

A new animated movie meant to be family-friendly will tell the story of zoo animals who are changed by a mystery meteor virus. The movie will mix horror and comedy in a new way.

“Night of the Apocalypse,” directed by Ricardo Curtis and Rodrigo Perez-Castro, is a project that brings together artists from France, Canada, and Belgium. The movie uses a new method of independent animation: creative problem-solving and collaboration with people from other countries.

According to Curtis, they wanted to make something new. The movie was made by House of Cool and Copperheart Pictures, two companies in Toronto that work well together because they have different skills. House of Cool brought a lot of animation knowledge from working on big-budget movies, and Copperheart brought new ideas and energy to the project.

Exclusive: David Harbour (Stranger Things), Paul Sun-Hyung Lee, Scott Thompson (The Kids In The Hall), and Gabbi Kosmidis (Unicorn Academy) are among voice cast attached for international animation Night Of The Zoopocalypse, which Anton and Charades are launching for the AFM.

The Canadian-French-Belgian family-comedy will follow a group of animals who transform into zombies after their zoo is hit by a meteor. Above is a first look image from the film.

Anton and Charades, who will co-rep world sales, will unveil first footage at the AFM later this month. It marks the first joint sales collaboration for the London and Paris-based companies.
