For the original Bleach anime, Derek first found out about himself being cast as Uryu, after speaking with Johnny Yong Bosch on the phone. Derek had tried out for the role, as well as attending two callbacks. Derek called Johnny on a whim to see if he had heard anything. Johnny informed him he was cast as the role, and wasn't sure why casting hadn't contacted him yet.

While uncredited for Scary Movie 3, both Derek and Tom Kenny voiced the two aliens. Derek voiced the alien who peed with his finger.
