10 Overlooked FX TV Shows You Have to Watch at Least Once
Image
When you are looking for a new show to watch, the decision can be made around many factors like the cast, directors, and writers; lately, those are not the only factors that make a show good. Increasingly, people look at production houses as a key factor in bringing quality to shows.

Networks like HBO gave us The Sopranos and Game of Thrones, AMC with Breaking Bad and The Walking Dead, and AppleTV+ with Ted Lasso and Severance—you get the idea. One such cable network that has been killing it with banger shows is FX, which creates shows that capture the interest of audiences and critics alike.

The network produces original series for auteur-driven projects, which gives the writers and directors creative freedom, thus appealing to a large audience with its quality and uniqueness. It often explores darker, more...

House of the Dragon Star Reacts to His Brutal Death In Season 2
Image
Sam C. Wilson revealed some trickery House of the Dragon pulled off for Cheese kicking his dog, while also sharing his experience as Blood on the other end of King Aegon’s hammer.

Blood and Cheese only first appeared in Season 2, Episode 1, when Matt Smith’s Daemon Targaryen hired them to sneak into King’s Landing and kill Aemond. However, the rash troublemaker left enough wiggle room in his instructions to ensure someone died.

And that’s precisely what happened: Prince Jaehaerys, a child, was beheaded in his bed.

'Wish I'd Thought of That': George R.R. Martin Loves One House of the Dragon Change
Image
Let it not be said that George R.R. Martin cant admit when someone makes his show better. Despite being the mind behind House of the Dragon as well as its predecessor, Game of Thrones Martin was immediately struck by the charm of a character that he did not write in the second episode of House of the Dragons sophomore season: a dog with no name.

In the July 5 entry of his Not a Blog online publication, the author of A Song of Ice and Fire the basis for Game of Thrones and Fire and Blood the source material for House of the Dragon revealed that he found the dog to be a wonderful addition to the story of the second season. "The show added a brand new character as well," explained Martin. "The dog. I am ahem not usually a fan of screenwriters adding characters to the source material when adapting a story.

“Especially not when the source material is mine”: George R.R. Martin Forgives House of the Dragon for Making 1 Change to His Storyline That Even the Author Fell in Love With
Image
[spoilers]

George R.R. Martin came out with some criticism about books being adapted into shows and films and rarely doing the source material justice. However, the author found himself pleasantly surprised when House of the Dragon changed the source material, only for him to declare it better than the books.

Blood and Cheese made their debut in the first episode of the second season, titled A Son for a Son, referencing the death of Lucerys Velaryon in the finale of the previous seasons. The show sees the fallout of the death, with Daemon Targaryen hiring assassins to slay Aemond Targaryen, named Blood and Cheese.

However, there was one addition to this treacherous duo, one that Geroge R.R. Martin wished he had thought of before the makers of the show did. Taking to his blog,...

Image
George R. R. Martin praises House of the Dragon's addition of a nameless dog character. The dog's presence added humanity to the villainous Cheese, showcasing love and loyalty. Martin wishes he had thought of the dog himself and appreciates the character's impact on the scene.

George R. R. Martin has nothing but love for one change that House of the Dragon made from its source material. As the author of the A Song of Ice and Fire series, Martin's most beloved works have already been adapted into two shows, including A Game of Thrones. There are several other adaptations in development, but the only one currently airing focuses on the horrors of a Targaryen civil war. House of the Dragon has received incredible reviews, and many focus on the horrifying Blood and Cheese scene, in which two assassins murder the Crown Prince.

George R.R. Martin Reveals the Addition to ‘House of the Dragon’ Season 2 That He Calls “Brilliant”
Image
[This story contains spoilers for House of the Dragon season two, episodes one and two.]

George R.R. Martin has nothing but high praise for season two of HBO’s House of the Dragon so far, especially a new four-legged character.

The author and producer recently took to his personal blog to share his review of the initial episodes of the Game of Thrones prequel series’ new season. He also recalled touring the show’s “spectacular” set at England’s Leavesden Studios in November.

“I have visited real castles that did not look half as imposing as the Red Keep and Dragonstone did. And they were Huge,” Martin wrote. “I also got a sneak peak at the first two episodes of season 2 [“A Son for a Son” and “Rhaenyra the Cruel”]. What a great way to start the season. The directing was superb. Game of Thrones veteran Alan Taylor directed the first episode, and Clare Kilner the second. Both of them did a magnificent job.

House of the Dragon's Early Deaths Are Falling Victim to Season 2's Pacing Problem
Image
House of the Dragon's Season 2 pacing issues detract from the emotional impact of character deaths. Lack of character development in Blood, Cheese, Arryk, and Erryk diminishes their deaths' emotional resonance. Season 1 could have provided more depth to these characters, enhancing their tragic deaths and the show's storytelling.

The following contains spoilers for House of the Dragon Season 2, Episode 3, "The Burning Mill," which premiered Sunday, June 30 on HBO. This article also contains mention of suicide.

When it comes to shocking deaths, Game of Thrones really stands out in the annals of pop culture, especially for those who didn't read George R. R. Martin's A Song of Ice and Fire books. People died left, right and center to spotlight how brutal those fictional, medieval times were. Now, Season 2 of House of the Dragon is detailing the precursor years to that story.

As Season 1 showed, the 200 years before Daenerys Targaryen's birth had some shocking deaths,...

House Of The Dragon: Is Harrenhal Haunted? Did Alys Rivers Predict Daemon’s Death?
Image
In the 3rd episode of House of the Dragon season 2, we saw Daemon Targaryen arriving at the gates of Harrenhal with his dragon, Caraxes. Now, dragons do give its rider a sense of power and authority. Yet, Daemon felt a sense of eeriness sending chills down his spine as soon as he stepped into Harrenhal. Some people said that they still heard the cries of King Harren and their sons, who were burned to the ground by Aegon the Conqueror, and their glorious castle turned to ruins. Even though nothing was left of Harrenhal, it still remained an important strategic point in the battle to come, which was why Daemon had to claim it, by hook or by crook.

Spoiler Alert

Back in the day, King Harren killed a lot of laborers and peasants during the construction of his palace. All those deaths had brought a curse upon the house,...

What Does Aemond Find on the Floor In House of the Dragon Season 2?
Image
Many fans wonder what Aemond Targaryen found on the floor at the start of House of the Dragon Season 2, Episode 2.

To recap what happened only hours before Aemond picked up that mysterious coin, Daemon Targaryen hired two mercenaries known as Blood and Cheese to kill the one-eyed Prince. However, Matt Smith’s chaotic schemer left a little leeway in his instructions.

Thanks to that, when Blood and Cheese couldn't find Aemond, they instead stumbled upon Jaehaerys in his bed. So, to satisfy the requirement given to them, “a son for a son,” they beheaded the child where he lay.

‘Total Trust’ Review: Jialing Zhang’s Documentary on China’s Surveillance Program Is an Eye-Opening Warning
Image
While it’s hardly news that most of us are under some form of surveillance any time we’re in public, the extent of Big Brother’s activities still has the capacity to astound. That’s nowhere truer than in the People’s Republic of China, whose efforts to monitor its citizens’ every action (public or otherwise) would make Orwell blush. “One Child Nation” co-director Jialing Zhang once again turns the camera on her home country in “Total Trust,” the kind of eye-opening documentary that makes you realize you know far less about its subject than you thought you did — however bad you may think China’s surveillance state is, Zhang can assure you it’s far worse.

Taking its title from a dubious news report claiming that public trust in the government reached a staggering 98% at the height of the pandemic, the film’s very existence runs counter to that claim.

Can House of the Dragon Improve Helaena Targaryen?
Image
Helaena Targaryen is one of the few innocent victims of the Dance of the Dragons in Fire & Blood and House of the Dragon. Being a minor character, House of the Dragon is taking a great risk of repeating one of Game of Thrones' biggest mistakes when it comes to representation of women. Helaena has potential to grow beyond the "tragic female character" plot device that Fire & Blood labeled her to be.

The following contains spoilers for Fire & Blood and potential spoilers for House of the Dragon Season 2. This article also contains mentions of sexual assault and rape.

House of the Dragon has already taken a different approach to storytelling than Game of Thrones ever did. The Dance of the Dragons may be between Rhaenyra Targaryen and Aegon II Targaryen, but the faces of the series are two women: Rhaenyra and Alicent Hightower. Women rule House of the Dragon and have...

The 10 Best TV Shows Of 2023, Ranked
Image
The best TV shows of 2023 have something odd in common: before they happened, most of them felt impossible. On paper, the idea of a complex and satirical retelling of Edgar Allan Poe's greatest hits sounds strange, as does a real-life "Truman Show" style reality experiment built around one of America's most tedious pastimes. Before this year, we had no reason to think that our favorite cable drama would blow up its entire premise three episodes into its final season, or that the TV adaptation of a near-perfect video game would in some ways prove better than the original.

TV can and should elicit all sorts of responses from viewers, but by virtue of its continuous format, it's especially well-equipped to leave us surprised. With seasons' worth of watercooler conversations under our belts, viewers become confident prognosticators sure we know exactly where our favorite shows are headed, but some of...

Daemon’s Hotd Season 2 Revenge Will Reverse His Character Change From Season 1’s Biggest Twist (You’ll Probably Hate Him)
Image
Warning: Spoilers ahead for Fire & Blood and House of the Dragon season 2.

Daemon Targaryen's character in House of the Dragon undergoes a transformation, becoming more likable in season 1. However, season 2 will make viewers hate him. The trailer for House of the Dragon season 2 hints at Daemon's involvement in a brutal scene from Fire & Blood, solidifying his villainous role. Daemon's positive character development in season 1 will be undone in season 2 with this pivotal moment.

Daemon Targaryen is among the most controversial characters from House of the Dragon, and one season 1 change makes him infinitely more likable — though season 2 promises to reverse this and make viewers hate him. The Game of Thrones prequel opens with Daemon vying for his brother's throne. However, he later strikes up a romance with Princess Rhaenyra Targaryen, supporting her bid for the Iron Throne when King Viserys dies. Daemon continues to engage in dubious behavior even then,...

The Most Out-There Anime Holiday Specials
Image
Some anime holiday specials are kawaii and warm and fuzzy, even if they involve mutants like My Hero Academia. Then there are those which decide to take the festivities for a sleigh ride into the bizarre. The creatures invited to these Christmas parties range from demons to alien frogs to cats that run a pizza shop and even a talking slime in a Santa hat, and don’t forget Santa flying in a sleigh pulled by a robotic reindeer. Pokémon are already strange enough, but in one particular episode, Frosty has nothing on the snowman as Pikachu and his friends build him in the shape of a Snorlax.

By the way, did you know Christmas cake, which is the pièce de résistance of the parties in a few of these specials, is a huge deal in Japan around this time of year, much like KFC? That episode of Dinosaur King is not kidding.

For Sterlin Harjo, the End of ‘Reservation Dogs’ Was Always Going to Be About Community
Image
When writer and director Sterlin Harjo was 5 years old, his mother lost a baby. “He was only alive for a few hours,” Harjo recalls. “I think at 5, when you know you lost a sibling, it’s very confusing. You don’t know how to process that.”

The loss of his brother is something that’s never left him.

“I remember, through the grief and everything, going to school and a Ta asked me how I was doing. It was really the first time I’d been asked that, because I didn’t know the kid,” Harjo tells The Hollywood Reporter. “It was just heavy loss that I felt. I didn’t know then; I’d never experienced that. I know that’s permeated and has been a part of my art and storytelling since.”

This would be just one among a series of personal brushes with life and death for...

‘Reservation Dogs’ Exit Interview: Sterlin Harjo Talks Ending, Legacy, and What’s Next
Image
“Reservation Dogs” was always about death.

The FX series might open with a snack heist and teen shenanigans, but it’s quickly revealed that the four central characters are grieving the loss of a fifth. They make plans to leave home, they steal chips, and grapple with complex, painful emotions that don’t often make sense, but they find solace in each other.

In the series finale, which aired September 27 on FX, death looms large once more — but in stark contrast to how the Rez Dogs mourned and missed their friend for three seasons. When a local elder passes away, the community comes together to grieve, but also to eat, to laugh, to chide Cheese (Lane Factor) for hitting someone in the face with a shovel (by accident).

“Death and grief are so prevalent in all of our lives that sometimes I wonder how other artists or storytellers don’t focus on it more,...

At this point last year, the world had already witnessed the first half of the inaugural season of HBO's highly acclaimed fantasy drama, House of the Dragon.

However, as of now, the much anticipated second season of the Game of Thrones prequel is nowhere near its premiere, or even the marketing. Featuring a stellar cast including Emma D’Arcy, Matt Smith, and Olivia Cooke, the upcoming season, which will consist of only eight episodes, is nearing its final stages of production at Leavesden Studios, which is set to conclude filming by the end of September.

‘Reservation Dogs’ Season 3 – Episode Guide (When Will the New Episodes Air?)

Reservation Dogs is finally back with its third and final season and so far it has been one of the wildest experiences of my life. Created by Sterlin Harjo and Taika Waititi, the comedy-drama series follows the lives of four Indigenous teenagers in rural Oklahoma who are willing to steal and rob people in order to achieve their goal of moving to California.

The FX series consists of some of the best TV writing, I have seen in years and the cast of the series seems to be doing it justice. ‘Reservation Dogs’ Season 2 Recap: What To Remember Ahead of Season 3
Image
The third and final season of FX's Reservation Dogs is nearly upon us, and its trailer promises yet another round of laughter and emotional tears. The show created by Sterlin Harjo and Taika Waititi began as the story of four Indigenous teens from Oklahoma - the titular Reservation Dogs - trying to get out of their hometown and all the way to California to honor the memory of a dead friend. Now, Season 3 will see Elora Danan (Devery Jacobs), Willie Jack (Paulina Alexis), and Cheese (Lane Factor) back to the Rez and into the arms of some pretty pissed parents and legal guardians. Bear (D'Pharaoh Woon-a-Tai), meanwhile, will face a journey of his own alongside his loyal spirit friend, played by Dallas Goldtooth.

Reservation Dogs Will End With Season 3

Reservation Dogs co-creator Sterlin Harjo has confirmed that the upcoming third season of the beloved FX show will be its last.

"Aho young and old warriors! Here it is: the coming third season of Reservation Dogs will be the final season," Harjo wrote on Instagram. "That’s a difficult line to write and a more difficult decision to make. However, it’s the correct decision creatively for the show. I always knew what the end of this story would be, I just didn’t know when it would arrive. As we continued to break stories and write scripts this season, it became clear to the producers, Taika and me that the season three finale is the perfect series finale. When we came up with the idea for Reservation Dogs, I didn’t think the show would ever get made, but thankfully it did."
