'Really Hoping Someone Leaks It': Batgirl Crew Member Recalls DC Movie's 'Soul-Crushing' Cancelation
Image
Over two years after DC Studios controversially canceled its Batgirl film, many still wonder why the DC Extended Universe never saw the light of day. Among those perplexed by DC's decision are the shelved film's crew members, with one claiming the movie was "completely finished" before being axed.

Replying to a video showing behind-the-scenes footage of Batgirl and bemoaning its "soul-crushing" fate, the superhero film's art department assistant, Annie Mitchell, admitted she's still stunned DC went ahead and scrapped the movie while it was deep into the post-production process. Confirming how close Batgirl was to being released, Mitchell said, "It’s insane that they scrapped it. It was literally completely finished, VFX and everything."

@hellenicrequiemIt's actually so soul crushing to see the amount of love and effort put into a film only for it to be turned into a tax write off and completely deleted from existence #lostmedia #batgirl #batgirlmovie...

Batgirl Directors Hope Brendan Fraser Oscar Win Saves DC Movie
Image
As the star continues to become a major award candidate, Batgirl directors Adil El Arbi and Bilall Fallah hope a Brendan Fraser Oscar win could save their DC movie. Fraser was starring in the DC Universe film as Ted Carson, a disgruntled veteran who elects to take his anger out on Gotham City by transforming into the sociopathic pyromaniac better known as Firefly. Despite a smooth production and much anticipation among audiences, the Batgirl movie was shelved in mid-2022 as part of new Warner Bros. Discovery CEO David Zaslav's efforts to clear up the 3 billion in debt inherited from the merger.

In a recent interview with Variety, Adil El Arbi and Bilall Fallah open up about their time on Batgirl and Fraser's recent buzzy performance in The Whale. While reflecting on the possibility the star could win an Oscar for his performance, the directing duo were excited at the prospect of his winning,...

Leslie Grace shares Batgirl footage
Image
The axing of Batgirl from the HBO Max release schedule was a major letdown for comic book movie fans. But that doesn’t mean we won’t at least get small samples here and there. Leslie Grace has shared behind-the-scenes footage of the Batgirl production on her TikTok.

The short compilation, which Leslie Grace captioned with, “I couldn’t resist..”, shows Grace on the set of Batgirl in makeup and performing stunt choreography, in addition to her childishly riding a rocking horse while in partial Batgirl gear. There is also a brief clip from the actual movie of Barbara Gordon being choked by an unseen assailant.

Hopefully this isn’t all we will ever see of Batgirl, which was officially removed from the release calendar in August. However, it’s highly unlikely we will get full,...

Batgirl set video shows off an impressive stunt sequence
Image
Although Batgirl is looking as though it may be locked in a vault for all time, we have gotten to see bits and pieces thanks to photos and videos from the set. Leslie Grace’s stunt-double Emely Cartagena posted a video on Instagram showing the progression of an impressive stunt sequence featuring Batgirl crashing a Gotham City party and taking down a Christmas tree in the process.

The Batgirl set video ends with a look at the actual filmed scene (through a monitor), giving us a tease of what could have been. These bits and pieces may be all we’ll ever see of Batgirl. Even the film’s directors, Adil El Arbi and Bilall Fallah, weren’t able to keep any of the footage for themselves. The pair tried to save some footage when they learned of the movie’s fate,...
