‘Tires’ Season Two Proves Shane Gillis Actually Cares
Image
The second season of Tires keeps returning to a low-level conflict between Shane (Shane Gillis) and his manager/cousin Will (Steve Gerben). As Will jockeys for position in the tire chain they both work for, he reminds Shane that if Will is able to move up to general manager, their location will need to replace him. Will keeps trying to set Shane up to show he can do it: telling Shane he’s in charge when Will has to leave for a meeting; inviting him to participate in a training session by an outside Hr consultant. Shane spends most of the season refusing these opportunities, not wanting to get caught actually caring about, well, anything, but particularly not work. Based on the evidence on screen, however, Gillis has a lot more career ambition than his fictional avatar.

Tires, which Gillis co-created and self-funded before selling it to Netflix, is in...

Screamboat Review — It’s… Good?
Image
It only took a day after Steamboat Willie entered the public domain for it to be announced that there would be a horror film featuring the character. Although it’s not exactly groundbreaking cinema, Steven Lamorte’s Screamboat is the first of the “public domain horror flicks” to understand the assignment, delivering a horror-comedy that’s shallow and perhaps a tad overlong, but surprisingly very entertaining.

Screamboat Review

Inspired by the animated short Steamboat Willie — the only version of Mickey Mouse that has entered the public domain — Screamboat follows a group of NYC ferry passengers who must fight to survive the night against a killer mouse. If that sounds incredibly dumb, that’s because it is. But it’s dumb in a way that’s at least a little bit charming.

Screamboat leans into the inherent absurdity of its premise, and frankly, doesn’t really care if the audience gets it or not.

Screamboat: Disney-Style Final Trailer Finds David Howard Thornton's Murderous Mouse On The Rampage
Image
Whatever you do, don't call him Mickey!

Screamboat is set to hit theaters for a limited run on April 2, and Sleight of Hand Productions has released the final trailer for the Steamboat Willie horror parody, which stars David Howard Thornton - who plays Art the Clown in the Terrifier films - as a twisted take on the classic cartoon character.

As we're sure many of you will be aware, Steamboat Willie debuted in a 1928 animated short film directed by Walt Disney and Ub Iwerks, which is generally viewed as the first appearance of Mickey and Minnie Mouse. For all intents and purposes, Willie is the iconic Disney mascot, but something tells us this character won't be referred to as Mm in the movie.

This project is not part of the Twisted Childhood Universe, aka the "Poohniverse," but by the looks of this reprehensible rodent, he'd fit right in.

It’s not the first unofficial Mickey horror movie. And it won’t be the last…

'Screamboat' Red-Band Trailer Sees 'Terrifier' Star Go On a Bloody Rampage
Image
Move over Winnie-the-Pooh, there's a new public domain killer on the loose, and his name is Steamboat Willie. The beloved Disney character is getting the horror treatment thanks to Terrifier franchise producers in the new film Screamboat, which also features Art the Clown actor David Howard Thornton as the killer mouse. The official red-band trailer for the horror flick directed by Steven Lamorte was recently released (seen below), and it showcases all the gory carnage we can expect when the film hits theaters on April 12.

"Welcome aboard the Staten Island Ferry," the trailer begins before we're presented with one of the biggest horror tropes ever: the doomsday defeatist. "This boat is cursed," the man says. "We're all going to die!" From there, we see the cast of Screamboat that inevitably gets picked off one-by-one by a shrunk-down Thornton, who portrays the character first made famous by Disney in 1928, and entered the public domain on Jan.

10 Best Better Call Saul Episodes Ranked
Image
Better Call Saul had a tough act to follow considering how highly-rated the final season of Breaking Bad was by both critics and viewers alike. It was astonishing then that the prequel show began to be considered potentially superior to its predecessor but, when going back over the best episodes of Better Call Saul, it's easy to see why the prequel show came to rival the original in terms of quality, and even surpass it in some areas. Better Call Saul began with all the hard-earned skills developed over Breaking Bad's run and squandered none of them.

Though the series already had a host of iconic characters, like Saul Goodman/Jimmy McGill (Bob Odenkirk) himself and Mike Ehrmantraut (Jonathan Banks), to work with from the word go, every new face they introduced felt right at home and many of them, like Kim Wexler (Rhea Seehorn) and Chuck McGill (Michael McKean...

Better Call Saul: What Do Jimmy and Kim Have Planned for Howard?
Bob Odenkirk in Better Call Saul (2015)
This article contains spoilers for Better Call Saul season 6.

There are cons and then there are long cons.

Ever since Jimmy McGill a.k.a. Saul Goodman (Bob Odenkirk) and Kim Wexler (Rhea Seehorn) resolved to frame their rival Howard Hamlin (Patrick Fabian) for “something unforgivable” in the Better Call Saul season 5 finale, fans have eagerly awaited the arrival of that plan. As it turns out, however, revenge is a dish best served slowly and deliberately.

Throughout the first six episodes of the show’s sixth and final season, Jimmy and Kim have laid the groundwork for something major to happen to Howard. In the season’s first few episodes, the married couple successfully got Howard’s business partner Cliff Main (Ed Begley Jr.) to suspect that the hotshot lawyer may be abusing cocaine. But that’s just a soupçon of what’s really to come. In “Axe and Grind,...

‘Better Call Saul’ Review: ‘Axe and Grind’ Is a Solid Deep Breath Before a Dangerous Reckoning
Image
Ah! There’s the cork. The tour through Chez Goodman that began Season 6 rounded out with a lingering shot of a wayward Zafiro Añejo bottle topper, tantalizingly vague about how that hunk of metal tied into the fates of Jimmy McGill (Bob Odenkirk) and Kim Wexler (Rhea Seehorn). In “Axe and Grind,” we get a tiny hint about whether that cork was one already kept in triumph or one kept as a reminder of a massive regret. While Jimmy’s purchase of celebratory tequila is undoubtedly premature, it is a nice full-circle moment as we head toward next week’s midseason finale. Kim and Jimmy aren’t the only ones who’ve been working to lay the groundwork for a big day.

This is an episode bookended by Kim Wexler Car Moments. What starts out as a cold open that seems to explain Kim’s ever-changing relationship to law and...

‘The Mandalorian’s Bill Burr Defends Gina Carano In Wake Of Her Controversial Statements: “She Was An Absolute Sweetheart”
Image
Stand-up comedian Bill Burr isn’t a fan of cancel culture, and he’s made that known before, most recently during his Saturday Night Live monologue in October.

On a recent episode of his The Bill Bert Podcast podcast with Bert Kreischer (watch it above), the subject of his Mandalorian co-star Gina Carano was brought up, and how she was fired by Disney over her social media statements comparing being conservative in Hollywood to being Jewish in Nazi Germany. On the Disney+ series, Burr plays a Migs Mayfield, a rogue bounty hunter.

“She was an absolute sweetheart. Super nice f*cking person. And you know, whatever, somehow someone will take this video and f*cking make me say something else and try to get rid of my bald action figure!” the Massachusetts native defended, referring to how Hasbro also canceled Carano’s Cara Dune action figure. The toymaker hasn’t made any Mayfield figures yet.

Two Truths And A Lie: A SXSW drinking game with Ari Shaffir and Big Jay Oakerson
Kid Rock
Austin - This is a story about finger-banging to Kid Rock and marijuana gummi candies. Or, rather, it's a game about it. SXSW and St. Patrick's Day -- which both landed this week -- are in and of themselves drinking prompts, and a classic round of Two Truths And A Lie is how I found my way into an interview with comedians Ari Shaffir and Big Jay Oakerson. Both were on hand for a night of Comedy Central stardom in Austin. Shaffir hosted a live version of his popular web series-turned-tv show "This Is Not Happening," which is just finishing its first season run this week. “What’s Your F@!?#ng Deal” boasted Oakerson's miracle crowd work, along with features from Nate Bargatze, Joe DeRosa, Todd Glass and Liza Treyger. Put them together for telling facts and lies? A lot of naked truths. Watch our video above and play along.
